  1. Do me a favor and try reading what I posted. It looks like you were responding to it, but I can't see where in the world you got the idea that I had the opinion of a salary cap being a "noble" thing. truth is, i despise any regulation in markets. Minimum Wage, welfare, salary caps, bailouts, fiat money, they all need to go. The salary cap, or lack of one this year, is a reality when dealing with the market for NFL players. Like it or not, it is a component that simply exists. I do not side with Woody Johnson on PSL's, which is why I wouldn't purchase one. I agree with him that paying Darrelle Revis $16 million per season (if that is really the number he demands) would be a completely foolish decision. I simply don't get the hypocrisy that is emanating from the pro revis camp. On one hand they want to pay 1 player approximately 1/6th of the teams payroll. on the other hand, they make comments disparaging Woody Johnson for having so much money. I don't get it. BTW, Football is not a business about winning football games. It's about selling tickets, merchandise, television rights, advertising, and your beloved PSL's. Winning means nothing to these owners, unless it helps them sell any of the above. Darrelle simply doesn't provide 1/6th of the teams value, therefore he should not be paid 1/6th of its payroll. From a business sense I stand behind Woody 100% From a fan's perspective I simply do not think Revis is as good as he demands to be paid, so I stand behind Woody 100% from that perspective too. Paying Revis $16 million per season would almost ensure that the Jets would not be competitive the entire time Revis was on the team after this year, especially if there is a salary cap. I would love to see Revis get his a$$ in camp, but not at the expense of future years' teams. I watch the Jets every year. I applaud Mike T and Woody for what they are trying to do, even if their motivations are derived from something different than that of a fan's.

  2. Read that whole article. Wow. I can't not believe they posted that. That is really the public stance you want to take? That is really the stance that Darrelle is supporting when he has to return to the team and face the players? I guess there is an I in team after all. A CB is going to make the difference between Super Bowl victory or not? Wow, wow, wow. I know how important he is but this is just brutal. Not sure what the capital S is for in Jets. Funny though that they bring up the PSL issue. As if the players salaries have nothing to do with ticket prices. It is two sides of people that have more money than we will ever see, trying to pit us against each other. You know what side we are on? The side that puts the best Jets team on the field. Revis has 3 years left on his contract. Get back to work and handle this sh*t quietly. This is petty but they didn't even put a period at the end. Did they spell check this thing? And the way they closed was a little dramatic for my liking. It reminds me of the song in Grease two, do it for your country, Uncle Sam would want you to. Get over yourselves. I swear I am getting closer to hoping the Jets just say F U and let him rot. He is the best CB in the game but honor the contract you signed.

  3. My only point is that I want revis back. I want a fair deal worked out. But, the world does not end, and we will still have an impressive defense without him. We'll have a dominant one with him, but we'll be ok if not.

  4. Seriously, why don't you just pull Revis pants down and get it over with already?

  5. LOL Pennington forced Bradway's hand to give him a $65 million contract extension off of 12 NFL starts. Pennington got paid. Chad could be a classy guy, but money has absolutely nothing to do with class.

  6. They need to get to this point eventually. Hopefully it comes before the season opener. Revis definitely needs to say he's willing to come in for less than Aso money, but the Jets need to offer an actual signing bonus, too. Revis is right not to accept a Brick deal.

  7. I want two sides actually negotiating in good faith instead of being stuck in a "he said/she said" type battle. Even if you are on the "Give Revis a blank check" side, having a face to face with all possibilities seems to be the only way the differences can be resolved. If this doesn't go down, I have to really question even more than I have already, the agenda that is being driven.

  8. One thread. Any one that thinks they have something to say that is so important that it might get lost in the big thread will have to pay a $100 charge. The money can be used for a "Feed Revis Family" fund. The $16,000,000 should be raised in no time

  9. great great post.. I am starting to think Rex made his 'get everyone in same room ' speech, cause he feels these agents are using this to promote THEM and Rex wants Revis to hear how they actually talk to Jets in talks and how unreasonable they may be. These posts by agents are borederline silly and smell a awful like turd Uncle Sean wrote them.

  10. This machine isn't IE7, so I'm not sure I'll remember everything, but I have it at work. The avatars don't show, only a bar of about 1/5th of each one shows and the same or worse with the sigs. The multiquote doesn't work, but I've had trouble with that with this machine and it's IE8.

  13. Listen, rookie. We know what he's capable of. We did see him play last year, we're not stupid. The problem is he's being selfish and full with greed. The Jets went to him for a new contract, not the other way around. However, he looks at their proposal and laughs. The Jets are not going to blink first. They just aren't. David Harris and Nick Mangold should get contracts before him, but yet they went to Revis first. The New York Jets are a football team. They don't need to wait for one player. A player can not hold a team hostage. **** THAT!

  17. I can't believe I just thread through all of this nonsense, but there's just one thing that I have to say. No matter how many times I say it I cannot believe how many people are incapable of comprehending it. Nowhere in the entire business world does one transaction EVER define a "market". NEVER! Some of you people clearly have no idea what that term means if you think that Asomugha's contract set a market for CBs. If you think he deserves to be paid more than that absurd contract that's your opinion, I may think it's asinine, but it's still your opinion and so be it. To act like he has some sort of right to it and that it has already been dictated that this should be the case based on some imaginary "market" is absolutely 100% false. If anything, Asomugha's contract is exactly the kind of deal that would be considered to be excluded from a market determination given how unbelievably outside of the norm it is. That's what we call an "outlier".

  18. He also commanded a defense with no Ray Lewis or Ed Reed and I believe they were still in the top 10 in the league. Also, tell us the elite CB's he had in his time in Baltimore? Revis is the nicest floor in a building that Rex was the architect of. At this point it's business and I think Rex is probably irritated about having to hear about it day after day. He's not on the business side of things and just wants to play football. Everyone wants Revis back in green and white.

  19. Which is basically why I haven't even posted in the forums. It's retarded. I don't understand why people are taking this so incredibly personally. The man is motivated by money. SO WHAT. How many of us work for the pure joy of our job? I'd say those who do are the lucky few. Most of us work to collect a paycheck, and are motivated by trying to make more money. I know I am, is there anything wrong with that? No, so why should I hold a player who's JOB is to play football, a high-risk sport, to a different standard then I hold myself? If the man wants to get paid, fine, good for him. I do believe there is a certain level of understanding that needs to be reached between the two parties. Revis wants too much and the Jets want to give too little. I guess I try to think of things in a manner in which it could apply to my own life. If I knew I could be terminated whenever (I can be) and that on top of that, if I sustained an injury that my company could let me go, of course I want more security. Additionally, if I'm one of the 2 best at my job in my industry, I'd want to be compensated accordingly. Revis is a man who wants to be paid for his job. He is amongst an elite # of people in this country who operate on a different playing field than us, getting paid in the millions. Then you throw in the fact that he's on a differently level than most of the guys in his industry because he is one of the best. Why is it on him to try and relate to us poor working folks? That's foolish to think that's the way athletes should operate. People live based on their abilities and the money it affords them and the industry in which they earn that money. Some people are more humble and are ok with what the make. Other people have an insatiable desire to make more, have more, be more. Something tells me that's Revis, considering the work the guy puts into his job on top of his natural ability. The NFL ownership is cut-throat. Loyalty is a thing of the past on BOTH SIDES OF THE TABLE. I don't understand how people don't see that. There is nothing in a contract outside of guaranteed money that means the Jets would need to keep Revis if he blew out his knees. At the same time I understand the Jets can't let themselves be held hostage by their best player. We have no idea what the inner workings are, but as an outsider it just seems to me the Jets want to do very little and Revis wants too much. In the end the cards are stacked against Revis. He can hold-out, and try and get his contract but then he faces the possibility of not playing this year. Then next year there is a very realistic possibility of a work stoppage so that'd be two years in the the prime of his career that he's not getting paid or playing football. If that's what he wants to do then I guess I see that as foolish, as I wouldn't want to not work and lose money for 2 years. I hope I see the Jets extend him some sort of compromise that the two parties can shake on, and in the end the Jets gave a little and Revis gives a little. An organization that stonewalls their best player isn't going to be a place where their workers are happy. /end rant.

  21. I like bit, but he spews some of the most retarded sh*t ever. 3 years in the league 2 hold outs, lies and fakes injuries. That is an outstanding track record for Mevi$. Mikey T's track record is he breaks the bank for the right players.

  23. I'm not disagreeing with you here. College's totally screw their players. Only brought up NCAA FB due to multiple agent investigations with Marvin Austin and many SEC coaches locking out agents and NFL scouts. Point was slotted salaries with guaranteed contracts and performance escalators works better for players and ownership.

  24. Except for one thing that is left out: it is Revis who needs to come up with something more than the Jets. He is beholden to them not the other way around. He has a contract with the Jets for 3 more years. Both sides would like to get a deal done. The problem seems to be that they are miles apart on what would be anything resembling common ground. When a team is willing to redo a contract with 3 years left on it, a player or agent doesn't tell them to shove it up their a$ until they see every term outlined in advance. That is not operating in good faith, and neither is faking an injury. The Jets aren't totally innocent here (they absolutely could put out a feeler with their total saying "plus a guaranteed amt of at least $20M"). But Revis & his representatives are the ones negotiating like real scumbags. Lying about an injury and then submitting the same proposal that the team rejected 6 months earlier? C'mon.

  25. I wasn't aware Revis was a free agent.

  26. No, Chad did not. Chad "offered" to do that in an interview, but never had to give up any money. And Chad signed with the Jets archrival after pocketting $50 million in 5 injury plagued seasons. I'm not saying Chad is unclassy, but class has nothing to do with money. That said, I agree with you about Revis. The fake injury thing was a bad sign.

  27. Why shouldn't they? The Jets are the ones who have a signed contract the player isn't honoring, which he is legally bound to, and plus providing his word isn't good for crap. They're also the ones who've been working since February trying to get Revis a new deal despite him still having three years left on his contract. And Revis response is ridiculous demands and a refusal to honor his contract. They should be the ones going to the press, because clearly them trying to do the right thing by Revis just got them a big "**** you" in response, so now they need to try to apply the pressure. The difference is Revis' people have no interest in negotiating. Everything that's been reported, included the words from the man's mouth himself, have shown that they have one set of ridiculous demands, and there's been no evidence that they have any plans to accept anything but exactly that.
    1 point
  28. It absolutely is not. Revis is a two time holdout and a proven liar (see: OTA injury faking). Revis' track record is dogsh*t. He is the least trustworthy person in all of this, and that includes everyone from the scumbag agents to lying team reps.

  31. I recall no such thing happening. I remember him saying to the media he would but it never happened and he surely knew the team would never do that. Clowney, by the way, has also made this offer to Revis. It's as realistic as when Pennington said it. Zero dollars went from Pennington-salary to Coles-salary. It never happened. If that's what Pennington was all about he still would have written a check to Coles after the Jets signed him. Of course this never happened either.
    1 point
  32. Chad gave up part of his own slary to get his friend Coles re-signed. That was class. He got dumped for Brett Favre and never said a negative word--even though he was no longer beholden to the Jets. That's class. Say what you will about his arm. The guy had class. Revis has shown, by playing possum in practice and lying to his coach about phantom injuries and making Rex look like a fool, that he has no class. The guy has started reading his own press, and as such he's been corrupted.

  37. the Jets can't pretend to be the Steelers. They are the 9th most valuable team in all of sports... globally. they are a big market team that splurges every other year on suspect free agent pickups like Favre. Now they are all frugal and Woody is waging a major PR campaign? Playing chicken with the league's best young defender in the media? some say "the lady doth protest too much", that's good one, how about "there's something rotten in the state of Denmark." and maybe not Woody's problem it might be a collusion among all the owners... not to hand out real bonuses this year... this deal should have been done months ago. it is not rocket science to keep a player like Revis happy. Bugg I think you said it before if Woody didn't want these problems he shouldn't have purchased an NFL team in NY. SOJ and we haven't even gotten to preseason week 1.

  38. Personally I strongly believe all of these salary caps are nonsense to suppress player salaries. I have a close friend and neighbor from Philly who is an eagles fan. That fan base labors under the delusion you get a Lombardi trophy for salary cap management. The NFL through the compliant media has kept this stupid idea going. Newsflash-the Broncos and Niners weere both found to have broken the cap rules. Suspect Bellicheat and Parcells have probably folded, bent, spindled and mutilated them (like with Curtis Martin's contract here.)In no case were Super Bowl Lombardis seized. Point is- get creative. Talk to Revis' agent in private. And God-freaking-damn it, if this matters to you, get it done. And also our skinflint owner needs to STFU and stop whining like a little bitch. It's embarrassing. Can you picture someone named Mara, Halas or Rooney conducting themselves like this faggoty act, like some drunk who got turned down by a pretty girl at closing time?

  45. Every year I purchase a new Jets Jersey. This year will be no different. I thought about many players for the year, but I think I will be getting either a Kyle Wilson or Antonio Cromartie Jersey. After this debacle known as the Revis Holdout. I think it would be best to make a statement that I not only support the players who show up to play, but I refuse to purchase the jersey of any player who views himself as being larger than the team. I would get a Mangold or Harris Jersey, but I already have them. Revis, to this fan, is and always will be nothing more than a rental type player, no matter how long he stays with the Jets. I simply don't like the man. I think it would be great to see Cro and Wilson jersey's all over the stadium, without one Revis jersey to be found.
