We have plenty of cap room this season, I wouldn't touch their contracts, at least not this year.2 points

Great article I see a lot of people on that Kevin White train but I believe DeVante Parker will be the best receiver in this draft.2 points

Seriously? You don't think that any number of QB's could have won some of NE's early SB's out of the six? Brady was a JAG during some of those early SB's. In fact he was the goat (as in the cause) if NE had lost this past one. Great QB yes but not the GOAT. Stockholm syndrome has hit Jet Nation as usual.....which is why clowns like TX are still posting here. Sooner or later you guys cave to their nonsense with proclamations like Brady is the GOAT.1 point

You do realize that Brady brought the Pats back to take the lead late in the 4th quarter of both those Super Bowl games? You expect him to play defense as well? Montana, with a team loaded of HOFers, could only get to the big game 4 times. As Fish said, the 49ers didn't miss a beat when Young took over.1 point

Alot of you guys may have to find a new team to root for because Geno most likely will be taking snaps under center in 2015. It is comical how short sighted some of you are. Every qb has had bad games and not everyone is ready to start straight from college. It was obvious Geno wasn't and both Idzik and Rex paid the price for trying to force feed him. He is now coming into his 3rd year; lets see what he can do with a real OC and more weapons. If he gets beat out in qb competition so be it. If he wins the starting spot he will still need to play at a higher level to keep his job as the new regime has no ties to him; Isn't that what we want when it is all said and done?1 point

OK.... so a QB who made it to 6 SBs is a dink and dunker??? His yardage year in year out put him at the top of all time. But OK... he is a dink and dunker. Who is better???? I, not saying he is number one, but at worst he is 3 and IMO, he is NOT 3.1 point
-
Sure he is the GOAT. No QB in the history of the NFL took his team to 6 Super Bowls, winning 4 of them. If it weren't for 2 fluke plays, Brady is 6-0 in Super Bowl games.1 point

Agreed. He has zero incentive to take a pay cut today because the Jets have no leverage today; he's the only left tackle on the roster. Which is why neither contract should be touched. The only exception would be in the unlikely event (as of today) that Brick somehow gets beat out for the starting job this year; then he gets cut outright, not restructured with additional new bonus money. Beyond that unlikely scenario, the only tangible reason for a team to "redo" veteran contracts (without an outright pay cut) would be if we badly needed spending ability right now, and we're forgoing future space for space this season. Except that makes no sense whatsoever in our current position. First and foremost, without a stable (or even known) QB situation, it's not like we'd be instant superbowl contenders if we only had a little bit more spending flexibility this year. Further, we already are going to have some $50M in cap space if/when Harvin's cut. Further still, new contracts for incoming FAs have lighter cap hits in year 1 than later. You sign Iupati for say $8M per season. He doesn''t cost $8M against the 2015 cap; it'll be less than half that. Ditto Wilkerson: extending Wilk beyond his $7M RFA tender won't net-cost anything in terms of his 2015 cap number -- in all likelihood it will actually lower it. So unless one is looking to extend either of these 2 beyond their existing deals, 3 seasons before they're set to expire, or unless Denver cuts Peyton Manning and he suddenly wants nothing more in life than to play for the 2015 NY Jets (lol), it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to restructure Ferguson or Mangold. "Oooh, we only had $50M in cap space for the 2015 season. Now we have $59M in cap room. So we'll clear another $8-10M that we don't need for 2015 because there aren't enough new contracts to possibly to spend that on in 1 offseason anyway." "Restructuring" either one would be mindless/senseless/purposeless.1 point

God **** it. I'm so sick of people talking about the OL. Will they re-do Brick? Will they sign Iupati? what will they do about Colon? NEWS FLASH: IT DOESNT MATTER who was Eli's LT when he won 2 rings? David Friggin Diehl. The Jets have the very best center in football and went 4-12. The line is fine. more than good enough to win. Brick is better than Nate Solder and Russell Okung. They were in the Super Bowl. Geno is not even close to Russell Wilson. That's the problem folks. The real problem. it doesn't matter without a QB. That's the one problem with the Jets that we should be talking about. Or at least not be in denial about and make OL\CB\WR threads. It's ignoring the gunshot wound in favor of the paper cut. Could the line be better? the Jets could have first rounders and Pro Bowlers at all the OL positions, and Revis, and whoever else. They still won't get the title. SOURCE: it actually happened in 2009 and 2010 with Faneca and Woody. This league is all about the QB.1 point

a redo usually means pushing money into the future or just playing with salary and bonuses to get more cap space now. I wouldn't do that here and neither guy is taking a pay cut. the jets have a new regime and ther are coming off of a 4-12 disaster, both agents will tell them to eff off about an actual pay cut brick isn't pace or ogden, but he is super reliable and a good soldier.1 point

Who was that fat trash bust guard that you wanted again? He's in Tennessee now, yes? #fattrash1 point
-
Brick did not rank highly, and as a light in the ass finesse left tackle, he'd have that ass handed to him on the right side. Once he's not getting it done in pass protection where he is, he's done. I'd only redo his deal to reduce it at this point.1 point

Yea, but I think the Jets and Woody Johnson knew all about both during the 2008 season...The complaints were made to the Jets during the season. Came out in deadspin later1 point

BB drafted and developed Brady. The Jets passed on him 6 times.1 point

When the Pats were down 10 points in the 4th quarter, Brady went 13-15, 128 yards and 2 TD's leading the Pats to the greatest 4th quarter comeback in the history of the Super Bowl.1 point

You realize Montana is 2 inches and 20 lbs smaller then brady? And the speed and strength ratios of NFL defenders are dwarfed by what is out there today. You have safeties out there that can bench more then the average NFL lb back then, and Dlineman that can run faster then them.1 point

Blah, blah, blah. Teree doesn't make a fluke catch and Welker doesn't drop that pass, Brady is 6-0 in a Super Bow games.1 point

This brushes over what Harvin is, though. He's not a pure receiver; every team he's ever been on resorts to handing him the ball to get it in his hands. His career receiving average is 11.5 yards/catch. He's never had a 1000 yard season. He's an alleged home run hitter whose longest play from scrimmage is 53 yards. As a rusher or kick returner, he's really no better than Brad Smith. A 4th round pick and $10.5M this year? That's a lot for this level player. And that's not even taking into consideration his injury history, his migraine history, his locker room history. There's a lot going on with this guy. I get that having the freedom to cut him without any cap consequence may make it easier to keep him in line, but it's no guarantee. Certainly no guarantee against the health concerns. If they part ways, they can spend that money on a true WR and keep the 4th round pick (while losing a 6th). That's not a terrible plan. The good news for the Jets is that they have a week long window to shop for free agent WRs before making the decision on Harvin. I'd expect them to utilize it. I have some blind faith in Maccagnan, and if he opts to keep Harvin, I won't freak out. He is an exciting player. But they should be actively looking for alternatives.1 point

Why doesn't anybody get this? When you sign a FA WR it will cost WAY MORE than 10 million. The agent will want at least 3 years, plus a huge signing bonus that gets spread out on your cap, plus a high yearly salary. The Jets could keep Harvin, draft White or Cooper, sign Spiller & Iupati in free agency & still have 28 million left, depending on how they handle Iupatis contract. Think about the offenses Gailey had success with & he loves to spread you out horizontally to get play makers in space. Decker- (Cooper or White)- Harvin- Kerley- Amaro- Spiller- Ivory. That lineup is LIGHT YEARS from what we trotted out between 2011-2014! Just those moves alone would allow you to fix the defense with 28 million + the rest of the draft.1 point

I agree. We would win 12 with that kind of offensive output. That being said I can't see any way we're a top 10 scoring offense barring us drafting a top tier QB and him having a breakout rookie year.1 point

I totally missed that post, thanks. I rely on people here for my crash course in what to think of the rookie crop each year. I don't have the bandwidth to follow college close enough to pretend to know what I'm talking about. By draft time I usually have an idea of what I want, but it's all a distillation of opinions from people I consider informed here and elsewhere on the web.1 point

I think some of you secretly hate the Jets. No offense, but signing Rice is one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. We just ditched Rex. So yeah, let's go out and sign a media lightning rod who isn't that good anymore. What could go wrong?1 point
-
I'm gonna call this the "Ostrich defense". Bury your head in the sand and pretend that players can't be distractions that negatively effect the team. Also bury your head in the sand and pretend that Rice's 2012 didn't happen. Their line was terrible. F*cking Oher started on it. But they DID have an all-pro guard in Yanda. And GREAT running backs can overcome a bad line. No, they won't be setting records, but they will be averaging more than 3.1 yards per carry. The bottom line is that even if he can still play, which is highly questionable, as recent evidence tends to suggest his career was entering its twilight BEFORE the suspension, he WILL bring with him a media circus, despite burying your head in the sand and pretending otherwise. I don't give a sh*t what players do. I'd sign Aaron Hernandez if he were acquitted of serial killing BECAUSE HE CAN HELP THE TEAM. Rice was an aging RB with over 2,000 career touches on his tires BEFORE all this sh*t happened. The unlikely chance that he can rediscover his previous form is one I'll be glad to let some other team take. Don't give one half of a f*ck about any soap opera storyline. If any evidence suggested that Rice revitalizing his career was anything more than a desperate hail mary, I'd be all for signing him. Peterson is a HOF and Lynch is making a hell of a case. Those are pretty extreme examples. How about Maurice Jones-Drew, Chris Johnson, and Shaun Alexander? When the cliff comes, it comes.1 point

Spiller, Ivory & Richardson are plenty of bodies at RB. CJ won't cost that much & because of his knowledge of Chan Gaileys offense & previous success he's a no brainer. A rookie always needs to learn blitz pickup which is not easy in the NFL. Spiller is best case scenario & instantly upgrades our offense. Then you will have either White- Cooper- Fowler- Scherff to pick from at #6. It's a great spot for Jets. Best case scenario is Mariota falls, Eagles are interested & Jets get Foles & draft picks. It blows my mind that we have fans not interested in obtaining Foles. He's better (and a lot YOUNGER) than anyone available on the street! He has really good recognition & got rid of the ball quickly under Andy Reed too. Our fan base is crazy. We have to find an answer at QB.1 point

According to JN. Kraft had just spent a 1st round pick on him. He is not going to pull the plug after 2 seasons when he had to scrap the first season due to salary cap issues. This is an owner who bought the old sh*thole stadium in the 70s/80s to position himself to own the team 10+ years later.1 point
