Great Jet, fine career, and a class exit. I think he's more self aware than some of his biggest fans. As he says in his letter, "the difficulty in playing at such a [high] level began to increase." Athletes always hate to admit that they're in decline, but Brick seems to've known it. He gets out healthy, on his terms, and a very wealthy man. I wish him a very happy and successful post-NFL life.5 points

Fellow Jet fans, let's all relax . For the 1st time since Weeb Ewbanks ran the Jets, we have a real scout talent evaluator in charge of our franchise . We will be fine, because I choose to believe that we will be .5 points

Well we do have an ape, a guy that uses fertilizer as a staple of his lawncare business, the vp of a coconut laxative company, and a guy who apparently takes irradiated sh!ts. Probably bound to happen.5 points

@MMehtaNYDN: Ryan Clady was scheduled to earn $9.5M in 2016 and $10M in 2017. I'm told that he did re-structure his deal, which facilitated trade. #nyj4 points

The context that's always left out of the "Idzik sucks" conclusion is that the job was so undesirable and the situation so toxic that literally nobody wanted the job. Removing Idzik from the equation, consider that the job of Jets GM included 1. A halfwit owner with zero credibility around the league; 2. An expensive, trash roster put together by one of the biggest buffoons to ever man a GM post in Mike Tannenbaum--a guy who had the same fiscal philosophy as Lehman Brothers and compromised sustainable success in exchange for tomorrow's headlines regularly; 3. A comically inept scouting staff that had been around since the early 90's, supplemented only by Rod Graves; 4. An emotionally stunted head coach who was such a ******* pariah that he got passed over in Baltimore for a special teams coordinator and treated talent development as a boring inconvenience; and 5. most importantly, that head coach had that halfwit owner tucked away in his back pocket like he was his prison bitch. Idzik was doomed from Day One, as would be any potential GM, which was why the Jets couldn't even hire a GM in the first place. Idzik took the pragmatic approach: ferreted away money, attempted to move on from Sanchez and the Good Ol' Boy network of Rex's old, slow, obsolete roster full of embarrassing punk jerkoffs, and attempted to keep Woody at arm's length. But, alas, Manish Mehta, in his desperate search for Internet relevance, decided to exonerate the jackasses who ran the organization into the ground over the prior decade and instead pinned it all on the guy who was on the job for 18 months. And as much as the Jets fanbase allegedly hates Mehta and Cimini and Cannizaro, the great bulk of them end up aping every troll-imbued, fact-free, idiotic talking point those hacks put out there because 97% of our fanbase is functionally illiterate and are the types of people who couldn't tell you what continent Benghazi is on, but are damn sure that a President Clint Eastwood would have irradiated it by now if it wasn't for silly hippies like Colin Powell getting in the way. in sum, John Idzik is a martyr who deserves our respect. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ******* clownshoes.4 points

I know some of you are trying to parlay your butthurt about Brick retiring into further testimony of the Jets incompetence... but, this is the reality.4 points

I would expect mccags to have called every team in the league to gauge trade interest for both trading up and down in every round. That's called being a GM. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

Look, until the Jets find their franchise QB for the the next 10-12 years, all their other draft picks are meaningless (just look at the last 10 years). You don't build a franchise from outside the QB position looking in, you build a franchise from the QB looking out.4 points

The Jets who haven't had a decent draft haul in forever, should trade every last 1 of their draft picks in 2016 if they strong enough believe that a franchise QB exist in this draft . That is all3 points

Why do Jet fans who watched this team keep saying that LT is now a gaping hole . Have you folks seen the play of our LT over the last 2 years ?3 points

There's never a reason to use the word "fool & Idiot" around here. 99.8% of us are Jet fans. Some are more devout and informed than others.... it doesn't mean you get to call other Jet fans these names. Who made you King around here. Extremely sad. It's these type of players that truly deserve a ring for the effort on and off the field. The definition of a team player, a leader, and a class act all in one and those are the type of players that are worthy of a top 5 pick. Just for Brick: And the home of the.. JETS!2 points

Jets site has a decent greatest hits video as well http://www.newyorkjets.com/videos/videos/HIGHLIGHTS-A-Tribute-to-Number-60/65faf881-58fc-4197-85e5-75e1d7d4e2e2 remember that draft, some fans wanted Matt Leinart at 4, Jets got that pick right One of the greatest Jets, 10 years, 167 starts and could have played a few more years, good luck on the next phase, Thank you D'Brickashaw2 points

They call it that for a good reason, though. There really is a hard date of June 1. Teams can select 1 player per year to cut as though it was post-June1, but for everyone else that date is still the cutoff. They made the exception to help March FAs get more competition for signing them, and so the June cut players (typically high priced ones) wouldn't be looking for a job when so many teams' cap space is blown (or when the position was addressed in the draft). Also helps teams, since some may not be able to afford the full accelerated cap in the current season, but the to-be-cut player is due new bonuses before June 1.2 points

I think it's the back tightening up again. Velocity still down a bit. Let's hope it's something that clears up and is not a season long issue.2 points

The part about a deal like that - which gets left out of conversations - is that Mac & Todd take a HUGE risk. That's basically hanging your entire career on 1 move... for a guy that played FCS football... Andrew Luck... sure. Winston?.... I get it... Carson Wentz?... ehhh i don't like him that much - and best believe they'll get fcking nuked if it doesn't work out2 points

We need more picks! Seriously, the answer isn't in free agency especially at this point with most of the better guys already signed. I think flipping Mo Wilk for more picks is vital now that we have a hole at LT, a hole at QB, multiples holes at LB, the need to get younger at the CB position, and the need to get younger on the O-Line. This team was mismanaged for years with bad drafting Macc was able to put a band-aid on that issue last season due to all the cap space but ultimately the only way this team is going to become a consistent contender is through the draft which means MORE PICKS.2 points

Just this once, could we not try to find someone to blame and just celebrate the career of an all-time great Jet. When they drafted Brick and Mangold, you couldn't have asked for a better outcome that both would anchor the line for 10 years. Players age and I completely understand why he'd retire now while he's still healthy. He's earned enough cash that he shouldn't have to worry about lifestyle so good for him. Yes, it leaves a hole but the team will work to fill it as every team has to when players retire or get injured. He's not going to a rival team, he's retiring a Jet. This is a moment to appreciate Brick. Tomorrow we can go back to stressing over the coming season.2 points
