  1. Sorry, but signing Cousins to me screams of the coach and GM being more worried about saving their jobs by going 9-7 or 10-6 rather than putting the franchise first, and the fans being impatient for not seeing this rebuild through. I think there is a lower ceiling with signing Cousins, but a quicker return to a mediocre to decent season. Drafting one of the top QBs (trade up) would give us the opportunity to build the team properly and continue putting the pieces in place. We are not a win now team. Yes, we can have a decent season, but I'm more concerned with sustained success and a Super Bow

  2. And the difference between Brett Favre and Kirk Cousins is that Brett Favre was Brett Favre and Kirk Cousins is Kirk Cousins.

  3. Kirk Cousins has been, as a starter, what you would want any drafted QB to develop into. But most draft picks don't. A Top 10 4,000 Yard a year passer. If we draft say, Darnold, would we be angry if he threw for 67%, 4,900 Yards and 27/12 TD/INT Ratio? I think we'd all sh*t ourselves if that happened, we'd all be so happy. Well, that IS Kirk Cousins right now. No waiting required. Kirk will be 30 by the start of the 2018 season. He has, barring injury as always, at least 4-7 more years to play QB in the modern rule-set of the NFL. We may quibble over his cost,

  4. I am not highly pro or anti Cousins, I just want a good QB. That said, lots of people talk about him as if he's a 35 year old who has maybe 1-2 serviceable years left. He's 29 years old, right in his prime. He should have 5-6 seasons minimum before age starts taking its toll on performance. 5-6 seasons ain't short term.

  5. While your silly, snarky comments are often amusing, they rarely further the discussion in any meaningful or helpful way. I'm not suggesting that 60-70 million dollars, if spent wisely, isn't enough to drastically improve the team. I'm just pointing out that 30 million dollars constitutes a substantial portion of our allotted money this off-season, and spending it on a QB who is probably just inside the top 1/3 of QBs in the league is a debatable proposition. You can continue to act like a dismissive, arrogant know-it-all, but the reality is that spending 100 million dollars to imp

  6. Cousins is not a stupid guy, and he totally gambled on himself big time to get to the point he's at now. He will speak highly of any and every team he's asked about, just as he should. It's a smart business move. I have little doubt he will gladly listen to the Jets offers, but from everything we've seen from him, the odds are he's nowhere close to having a real thought on where he's going to end up.

  7. He'll be the highest paid player in the league for about a season. Then Rogers and Ryan will be. Then Brees Highest paid is just the most recent QB to sign a contract

  8. I've been away for several years...glad I'm back. One thing that hasn't changed are the many opinions but still no SB...lol. Anyway, looking forward to reading how you self made GM's will be deciding who we pick in the first round...GO JETS!

  9. Come on Kirk, make it happen baby! I want every Jet fan dismissing you to have to watch you improve the confidence on this team & start winning. Bring that huge chip on your shoulder & let's wrestle this division away from the cheaters.

  11. You sir are an intellect and a gentleman. How these anti-Cousins people can’t understand is mind boggling to me. 1) You really don’t know what you have when you draft a QB and even if they turn out good it’s going to take several years. 2) Cousins is really freakin good and you don’t have to guess about it. 3) Free agent QBs if his caliber simply never show up on the open market.

  13. How does this fit with the possibility of Cousins going to Minny? Looks like Vikings want to run with Keenum and Bridgewater.

  14. You were warned about this. I PMed you personally as a courtesy. Thanks for lying to me and saying you would stop. Enjoy your 30 days off. Hopefully you change when you come back so we don't have to make this permanent.

  15. Jets know they have McCown in their back pocket. It's go after Cousins. If that fails, resign McCown and go after their QB in the draft. There's no other free agent to go after.

  17. He is easily better than Paxton lynch and drew Stanton that’s why. Cousins is much better than those two. Cousins is nowhere near top qb in the league, but he is much better than a handful of teams have. He is definitely not the god some homers wish he will be if we got him.

  18. Simple. Because they're at the end of their prime years and wanna win NOW. They don't got time to wait for a rookie QB.

  19. You're giving Cousins $30M/year because you've seen him play at a high level in the NFL and you expect him to continue that for another solid five seasons. Once you make that move, the next one is to build a team around him with the goal of winning a Super Bowl. The next move is not securing his successor. I'd be fine with a QB taken anywhere from the second to fourth rounds, a developmental guy who fits the prototype and developing him. You can't use the #6 overall on a player who you intend to be your backup QB for the next three years, minimum. That pick is too valuable. It has to be a piec

  20. If Cousins comes here and suddenly sucks then every coach should be fired at the end of the year. He's proven he most certainly does not suck and done it with less than what he'd have here.

  21. Yes, there are some teams who are scared of him. We're not one of them. I can promise you that. Barring a bombed interview, he's the top QB on our board.

  22. But if we do sign Cousins, we should be all in for Barkley. We have seen the stats where most draft picks don't pan out. Move up for the sure thing and we would finally have a really exciting player on offense again. Remember when we had Toon, Walker, McNeil, Schuler on the same team? That's what drafting offense every once in a while can do for you.

  23. If its between cousins an NO qb taken in rounds 1 or 2, id 100% pass on cousins and draft a guy. the op is correct. Its a desperate move to save jobs and keep the 9-7 machine rolling for as long as they can

  24. Yep. So if I’m the GM I avoid McCown, and stop enabling Bowles in this regard.

  25. The cool thing is we can have Cousins for the next several years and still keep looking for his shccessor in a few years. (See Mahomes, Rodgers as examples of guys drafted even though the team already had its starter on the roster)

  26. Sorry, but I think that's a terrible idea and one the team will never pursue. If (when?) the Jets sign Cousins, they have to be all in with Cousins, and that means not using their big chip in the draft to draft his backup. I could, however, see them spending one of their second rounders on one of the leftover QBs. Maybe.

  27. I will say this. MAcc's track record of bringing in QBs in FA is MUCH better than his track record of drafting QBs.

  28. Very true, but he's still not the young guy that may give us a higher ceiling. I want our own guy to develop and bring along with our young team. If we had a win now team it would be different. We need to stay the course and build our team with really young players in the draft and free agency.

  29. The difference between signing Favre and this would be that Cousins is more of a long term solution than a quick fix, because of his age.

  30. I think he is an above average quarterback and played great with the odds consistently stacked against him. I have flip flopped all year between going with a QB in the draft or signing Cousins.. I even thought we should do both on a few different occasions....I’m at the point now where I want us to win next year. I want to be excited to still see my team play in January. I want to be able to tell other friends who are fans of different team , yep, we have a great shot at whipping your ass in this next round. ...Cousins and a few other moves makes that possible in my opinion. I also love Baker

  31. This really bugs me. Chad’s arm was an issue, but his main issue was he played like a pussy. Over and over he’d preach “take what the defense gives” blah blah.... here’s the reality- just about every single NFL snap has the defense giving up something. They give it up because they know it will hurt them the least. The Tampa 2 defense that was all the rage in that era was designed to take away deep plays and keep things underneath. It forces offenses to require many more plays to drive down the field, thus creating more opportunity for mistakes. It’s the prototypical bend don’t break.

  32. The only team he mentioned was the Jets and cited the Bates - Shanny connection as being a big draw. Everything I've read and watched the last week makes me think if Macc and more importantly Bates, say the right things that Kirk will be a Jet.

  33. Been saying this all along. If the Vikes throw their hat in the ring, it would dumb for Cousins not to grab it.

  34. Believe me I've thought about it too. But it just wouldn't be the same. Crazy thing is I was a Giants fan when I was very young but ended up a Jets fan (and not because of anyone else - just my own choosing).

  35. I think it’s clearly between us and Denver. The immediate future is brighter with Denver but the money be less and in 2-3 years that old team is done. The jets can offer more money and a brighter long term future in my mind. We will see

  38. Cousins simply isn't worth being paid as a top 5 QB because he just isn't one.period. If he were, then why would the Redskins then let such a hard to get franchise QB walk?

  41. That would be truly messed up. Now if it were a non-football related injury, I think something like this would make total sense. Considering that it was football related and how bad it really was, trying to pull a move like this would be a disaster in so many ways. I have no doubt the NFLPA would be totally opposed to a decision like that. If it ends up happening, the Vikings would have to at bare minimum offer him a new deal, even if simply a one-year deal at a higher rate, to not look like complete assholes in this situation.
