  1. General Notes - Players in full pads - Practice ran 2.5 hours - Kacy Rodgers (DB), Brandon Bryant (S), Xavier Cooper (DL) and Marcus Maye are still out - During the special teams period punt blocks were the focus. Multiple stations were set up to concentrate on different aspects and Brant Boyer (STC) was the "punter" as he kicked soccer balls - A "new QB" we just signed showed up as the warmup period was ending and was welcomed with a team wide "slow clap" - Todd Bowles stopped practice, gathered the team and delivered a heated message after a sloppy period - The defense dominated early on as they seemed to be energized by the "new QB" showing up and yelled "new meat" on multiple occasions. Completions were hard to come by but to the offense's credit they stabilized and recovered at the end Player Notes - Quincy Enunwa was sharp as he looked like his 2016 self. Running away from DB's on deep slants and showing good footwork and catching a TD from Sam Darnold during a red zone period - Leonard Williams continued his strong start to camp with more TFL's and pressure on the QB's - Trenton Cannon "stacks" another good practice as he continues to show his speed. During a 3rd down period he exploded around the edge for a long gain - Doug Middleton (S) has been replacing Marcus Maye with the #1's and has been displaying good range in tandem with Jamal Adams. Today he picked off Darnold during a team period as Derrick Jones tipped a ball up in the air and Middleton pulled it in - Jamal Adams talks an incredible amount during practice but a ton of what comes out of his mouth is diagnosing what the offense will do before it happens. Impressive - Obum Gwachum (OLB) had another "sack" today during a 11 on 11 period - Henry Anderson (DE) showed up today as he got a "sack" and pushed the pocket a number of times QB - Sam Darnold after three practices on the sideline was clean in terms of handling the ball as there were no fumbles or botched snaps. His accuracy and ball placement were good during the 1 on 1 WR/CB period as he hit Robby Anderson on a 40+ yard TD. But in his initial 11 on 11 period he threw an INT to Middleton which I mentioned before and his timing with receivers was off as he struggled. Darnold recovered though during a red zone period as he was more accurate and threw TD's to Enunwa and Chris Herndon - Josh McCown struggled early on but was able to recover as he led the offense to a TD on an acrobatic catch by Jermaine Kearse during the final 11 on 11 period of the day. And to his credit he sacrificed a number of his reps early on to Darnold so he could get up to speed quicker - Teddy Bridgewater had the same type of day as McCown as he struggled early but led the offense to a long TD drive in the final 11 on 11 period. Lucky Whitehead made a diving catch for the score Keep An Eye On - Frankie Luvu (OLB) a UDFA out of Wash. St. He had a "sack" and a fumble recovery during a red zone period Concerns - Too many penalties again - Brandon Shell left early, hopefully he's not hurt seriously Standouts - The defense - The parties that finally acted like adults and ended the Darnold contract nonsense

  5. Imagine spending three years building a team with that much foundational talent on it, then getting fired because you can’t sell PSLs to a NY Giants sublet, and then watching an outright clown take your team and coach it on a playoff run before absolutely nuking your hard work.

  6. A couple of thoughts before we return to practice on Wednesday & Thursday: - Even before Darnold showed up Bates installed an offense that's going to take full advantage of his mobility and his ability to make plays "off schedule". We'll see what kind of play caller Bates is but he's crafted an offense that Darnold should be very comfortable in. But pre-snap penalties must be cleaned up because this will be an offense that relies on play-action for big plays. And you can't have a "chunk play" called back because of an alignment, motion or false start penalty - After one observation it's obvious Darnold's throwing motion is no longer "elongated" - Pre-season games will tell but there appears to be depth at: S - Middleton, Wilcox, Brooks CB - Nickerson, Jones, Clark, Roberts ILB - Pierre-Louis, Minter, Hewitt TE - Leggett, Sterling - Shepherd, Fatukasi & Anderson will make a drastic difference to the DLine. We'll see how they develop, but their energy alone will have a big impact because they aren't Wilkerson - Someone needs to stand up at the OLB position and produce a 6+ sack season. Can Gwachum, Mauldin or Donahue bring practice flashes to pre-season games? - Long must stay healthy, he's crucial to the OLine and the overall functioning of the offense

  7. And just like that, all is forgotten. Sam Darnold’s three-day absence from Jets training camp came to an abrupt end a little more than an hour before practice at Florham Park yesterday, and Jets twitter and our message boards at JetNatNation began to light up. He was going to sign, but was he going to sign today? Would he practice? Would he be limited if he did practice? Nary a peep about his silly 72-hour absence, and rightfully so. The man who is tasked with saving the franchise was signed, sealed and delivered. That was all that mattered. There was no sign of Darnold early on in practice. Team stretching was under way, and only two red Jersey’s stood out in the group. Those of veteran quarterbacks Josh McCown and Teddy Brigewater, but that was short-lived. Before the Jets would even finish stretching, Darnold’s red Jersey would appear in the distance as he emerged, helmet in hand, jogging over to join his teammates to kick off his first ever pre-season training camp. The third overall pick would be welcomed by a very pleased group of teammates who started a long slow applause as Darnold drew closer and the warm-up period entered its final few seconds. Darnold was greeted with hugs, handshakes and high-fives just before he would jog off to a separate field with McCown and Bridgewater to start getting loose by just tossing the ball around with his teammates. Before taking a single practice rep, camera shutters were firing away and all eyes were trying to spot Darnold through a sea of players, coaches, assistants, team employees and the great big tree that sits between the two fields. Eventually, there would be no need for rubbernecking as team periods would commence, with McCown, Bridgewater, and then finally Darnold, getting reps behind different combinations along the offensive line. Spencer Long, who has had a stellar camp but is being brought along slowly, didn’t begin the session with the starters, but he would come in when Darnold was up with the first group. Things were a bit shaky early on. This came as little surprise given the fact that not only had Darnold miss the first three practices, but that morning’s warm-up. Darnold’s first pass attempt was a poorly thrown deep ball that saw him overshoot his target, followed by an attempt that saw him drop back, step up in the pocket to avoid pressure, and try to squeeze a throw to Robby Anderson over the middle on a ball that was batted down by Derrick Jones (who is having an outstanding camp) and intercepted by safety Doug Middleton. Attempt number three was incomplete, but to give credit where it’s due, from our perspective, it appeared to be a fantastic diving pass break-up by second-year cornerback Xavier Coleman. Darnold stood out during team red zone drills, throwing a pair of TD’s. The fact that Darnold was going to be limited on his first day meant there wouldn’t be many opportunities, and his first shot didn’t offer much. However, once Darnold was under center for the Red Zone period, he would find the end zone twice. Once to rookie tight end Chris Herndon over the middle, and then again to a wide open, almost uncovered Quincy Enunwa on a quick hitter toward the right sideline. It was an incredibly small sample size as Darnold threw just a handful off passes during the team periods, but he did do a few things well. Darnold did show was his ability to move well both inside and outside the pocket, reacting to pressure and getting the ball out quickly when he had to. With the contract drama in the rear view mirror, the time for Jets fans to look forward is now, because one could make the case that the view has never been this good. 10. That he likes Sam a lot. That at first he was quiet in the huddle but he’s improved his tone. He mentioned some passes he threw where they know that it’s next level stuff that only top Qb’s can make. Good perspective from a WR. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. Speaking of changed motions, people should go look at Aaron Rodgers in college. His motion was amazingly awkward looking. Held the ball super high, and rigidly, looked mechanical though you could still see his throwing arm was fast. And now he has the fastest release in the NFL. Darnold even with his "elongated" release was already fast and his motion is similar to Favres. It is obvious already that he is ahead of the other guys from a release stand point which is hugely underrated in the NFL. In terms of the offense, I would be shocked if Darnold is not the starter. The offense is designed for him (Bates hinted that already) and the other guys are not distinguishing themselves at all. Unless he pulls a Hack in the preseason games, all he has to do is show the job is not too big for him. Plus the reaction of the team suggests that they are already aboard the Darnold train. I think we make the playoffs this year, and are really starting to develop a core of young athletic players. We can be competitive for a good long while.

  12. I couldn’t tell who was more happy, the fan or Jamal. That’s a man genuinely enjoying making someone happy. No PR move, just love and generosity between two human beings and that’s what this world needs more of. We tend to think the worst of each other like “Oh he did that for the camera” but there are probably a dozen situations where Jamal gave back to the fans without anyone recording it. I think it was being recorded mostly because it was a beautiful moment.

  16. All I can say is that hopefully the Jets are “setting a precedent” by getting a FQB for once. That’s all that matters. If you had to “compromise/bend” a little, isn’t it worth it in this case? Other rookies can F off. FQB is all that matters and are the special circumstances that allowed this.

  19. I liked this draft because they really seemed to focus on athletic ability for the first time all the way thru the process. I don't know if I see this kid as a superstar just yet, but I'd be thrilled if he could be a Leon Washington.

  21. The window closed quickly on that 2009-2011 Jets team. It wasn't built to last and the future was mortgaged. I'm all for building something more sustainable....even if it takes a little longer to get there. I do think Macc has already accomplished most of the "dirty work" that needed to be done in terms of the purge of legacy players. Guys who were talented and iconic but aging and expensive (Revis, Mangold, Harris, etc.). We went through a less than ideal "tanking" effort to position the Jets in the draft. We've swallowed the bitter pills and written off guys like Wilkerson, Richardson, etc. and Macc cut his losses with Hack, Devin Smith, etc. Not fun stuff....but necessary. The Jets have the foundation now IMO. Young guys, some good but not yet great talent, good chemistry and leadership. That's what you have to start with....we'll add the "difference makers" once this team looks like it's a consistently .500 or better club. For Fantasy Football guys it's very interesting to note that the Jets are almost guaranteed to be the very last team to have one of its players drafted. That tells you something about the lack of difference makers and playmakers here. But those guys will come eventually....when the foundation has proven solid. It's like when the Jets added Braylon Edwards and felt that Ladainian Tomlinson was a 1 or 2 year piece to push the team over the top. We'll get there but now is not yet the time. I like what Macc has been doing. He's far from perfect and has had some notable misses in the Draft, but the team is young and solid, he obtained the consensus best QB prospect in the Draft, and he's got a war chest of FA dollars. The future is bright my brothers.

  24. Who cares if they caved. You traded up to draft the kid 3rd overall, you're part-time owner creamed himself on national TV over the pick saying it was franchise changing, the entire FO and HC's all jerked each other off because he fell to us...so yeah, give him what he wants to make him happy and do whatever it takes to make him successful. All the butt hurt about offsetting language and trying to give yourself insurance if he busts, is stupid. Ride or die with $am Dollarnold. He's your guy.

  25. This was never about how much we are paying Darnold or when. It was all about preserving precedent. It's easy to twist the narrative to suit any headline you want to write, but ultimately, as fans, it works for us and doesn't have any negative impact on the Jets in terms of cap so all good.

  26. I don't think it was a PR move. Sunday it was the Linebackers who were assigned to come sign for the fans. Adams and Maye were working on some drills after practice ended in the middle of the field. A bunch of people were calling Adams over to sign. After they were done, he teased people in the bleachers he was coming to sign, and then went to the far end of the field(opposite of the way they come in to practice) and went over next to the bleachers and signed for everyone there, because there was more area for people to sand rather than against a railing looking to hand something down for him. Took pictures with whoever wanted a pic with him, and conversed with the fans by him. I've been going since 2009 and while there certainly are players who talk to the fans, other players(and a lot of the bigger names kinda keep their head down and just sign to make people happy. Jamal was both signing for everyone, talking, and thanking everyone for coming out(genuinely, not the just in a PR kinda way), even as the sweat was pouring off of him.(Literally after he signed my football it was as if it was thrown into a pool, there was sweat everywhere, but he stayed and signed, long after i was working my way back tot he entrance to leave for the day. I know he gets a lot of flak here, but he really is one damn good dude, and he is quickly becoming my favorite player on this team.

  27. Assuming that #33 did this just to enhance his own PR is really really stupid. You may not like Adams performance on the field based on his draft position, but that has nothing to do with this video. If you can't see that that Adams was sincere in his interaction with the fan, then you are f*cking blind as a bat. Adams is indeed a good guy and I like having his high character on this team.

  33. I've gotten a few question on this via PM so I'll say it here. I don't mind saying it because I've said it dozens of times over the years. If you think I'm spending all this time to write random flavor scenes you're f**king nuts. It takes me so long because I'm moving things along but dropping hints all over the place. It's up to you whether or not you want to use anything I'm saying or songs I'm posting. Anyone paying attention should have a pretty good idea of exactly what's going on.

  34. He’s 100% talking about Randy Lerner in Cleveland, who sniped Mangini by bringing in Mike Holmgren as the GM for his second year. Holmgren steamrolled Mangini because he wanted to coach again, but Lerner didn’t want Holmgren to coach, so it became a disaster instantly.

  40. Listen, Belichicks a great coach, maybe the best ever, but 2008 was mirage & everyone keeps going back to that Matt Cassel year. They had the easiest schedule in the league. The Jets beat them in Gillette on TNF, I was there. The Pats defense was still DAMN GOOD in 2008. Brady is the NFL leader in comeback victories, that's not Belichick threading passes, moving in the pocket for another second & finding his FOURTH OPTION in the route! BB & Brady are GREAT TOGETHER, but without Brady those 4th quarter comebacks like last year vs Houston, with Brady threading the needle to Cooks in the endzone with the ball placed PERFECTLY are not going to be commonplace. My god people, fans fret when you leave Tom Brady 30 seconds & he's down by 6. Down 2 with 30 seconds & your already imagining him setting his team up for winning FG. The guy is the GOAT and it's a whole new ballgame in Gillette when he hangs em up!

  43. The time had come to offer the choice to an explorer. Careful consideration was made before ultimately choosing the feminine looking "man" wandering the beach. "You sir. I'm here to offer you a choice". "Look old man. I may look like I'm lite in my loafers but... well actually I am light in the loafers. Anyway what are you talking about"? "I have 2 Chalices and you MUST choose one to drink from". "huh"? "One is decorated with BLUE diamonds and the other GREEN diamonds. Choose". "What if I don't want to choose? This is stupid". "YOU MUST CHOOSE! IF YOU DON'T YOU WILL DIE" "hmmp.. so what happens when I choose"? "If you choose wisely, you will earn additional protection". "and if I don't"? "If you choose poorly?.... Lets hope you don't". "This is stupid! How do I know this isn't rigged"? "The choices have been predetermined and were written long before today. This can be verified" "This is sooooo stupid"! "CHOOSE! OR DIE" "FINE! uhh.. give me the GREEN" "Are you sure"? "yes yes I officially choose GREEN"! The "man" held the chalice between his thumb and pointer finger and sipped on it as if it was a juice box. IMMEDIATELY AFTER DRINKING FROM THE CHALICE THE MAN BEGAN WRITHING IN PAIN. WITHIN SECONDS HE BEGAN TO LITERALLY MELT AWAY.. ********* Arnold Ernst Toht aka JiF (SK Team member) is DEAD!

  44. I agree there. One of Mangini’s great failings was that he didn’t have the courage of his convictions, so he listened to too many people and his tough guy shtick came off as fake. If you’re going to be a prick, you’ve gotta be a prick. Pretend pricks get crushed by actual pricks such as Revis, Pete Kendall, etc.
