  1. Dude I don’t give a **** about the outcome of the game. I’m enjoying this season watching the development of our 21 year old franchise qb. If you can’t appreciate the stuff he showed in this game... I don’t know what to tell ya....

  2. Two and a half days to prepare. The backup QB, with zero regular season film to watch anyway... was not high on the priority list. I can't stand Bowles, but he gets a pass from me on this one... You have to give him at least a partial pass.

  3. You realize that the jets were playing their second short week in a row? It’s hard enough to prepare for 1 qb on a Thursday let alone 2... not to mention there is no tape on baker!

  4. damn this board is toxic as hell . Darnold having his ups and downs like any other rookie QB. And the way some of you act is like the kid is already a bust.. omg he threw a interception. Sky is falling 🤣🤣

  5. They weren’t prepared for a scenario where the opposing QB tried to throw instead of holding the bell too long and taking sacks, or throwing it into the dirt? Seems kinda ridiculous to imply they needed ‘special’ prep for Baker. He’s a rookie. He hadn’t been getting any work with the first team all preseason. He did basic things any QB would do. In fact, down by 14 his offense was 1-dimensional which favors the Jets too. No, the problem here is that these players don’t show up for a full game, and the coaches have implemented a scheme that the whole league has figured out. This is why we make sh*tty QBs look like 300 yds is their average.

  6. So wait, the Jets organization listens to Bart Scott’s analysis on the radio, decides they have no respect for it, then go and complain about it to Manish Mehta?

  7. NO WAY IN HELL Todd Bowles was asked if he made any halftime adjustments for Baker Mayfield and he flat out said NO this is piss poor coaching.

  11. So, we scouted 4 QB's, Mayfield among them, for 6 months. Saw hours of film, worked them out multiple times. Basically saw that Mayfield was a grip it and rip it guy, accurate as hell, who will throw to whomever gets open, anywhere on the field. Bowles was probably at every workout, visit and film session, yet had no idea how to prepare for him? If true, this guy should not even be coaching HS football. It's beyond preposterous.

  12. The crime isn't that they didn't prepare for Baker.. of course they didn't. The issue is that when he came in they seemed content to ease of the gas pedal hoping he'd make mistakes rather than try and fool him with blitzes and coverages he's never seen. This is one of the times I miss Rex.. his D's would feast on rookies.

  13. That 1920s gameplay from last week was bizarre. Rewatch the throws Sam made week 2. The arm strength questions are frankly RIDICULOUS. Kid was spinning it all over he field. His velocity on some of those 10-15 yards throws is awesome. Could have easily been a 400 yard multi TD game if not for a couple of drops. Hope we see more of this going forward from Bates.

  14. Not at all--just mildly surprised/amused that Mehta would deign to speak with one of us plebians, and equally surprised Glenn would answer the call. I break Glenn's balls because his point of view and mine are pretty much diametrically opposed, but I respect (and often enjoy) the work he does here.

  15. I'll say this; Darnold is a professional We're not gonna see this kid posing shirtless on magazines or eating hot dogs on the sideline. For being the youngest QB ever, he surely does carry himself like a vet.

  17. Goff threw more and Wentz was 16-14... and that was after a hot start. wentz threw 8 TDs and 13 picks in his last 12 games of his rookie year.

  18. You’re being irrational You know well that the end zone pick week 2 was not his fault l- yet you keep saying his two picks cost us the game... what’s your agenda? The narrative that he was bad week 2 is just overly simplistic and reactionary to the result of the game. Sam was without a doubt the best player on the field against Miami... he showed special traits. Yea he made a mistake, the defender made a great play- all quarterbacks throw picks... its the society we live in though... everything is extreme. I thought Sam was much better week 2 than week 1.. yet people were putting him in canton week 1 and saying he has a bad game week 2. Just reactions to the outcomes of games. Take Baker for example... if we recover his fumble, or if Middleton holds on the ball... the browns lose and Baker is labeled as reckless. We need to read between the lines here instead of just reacting to the most basic outcomes... Sam has thrown three bad picks this year... Detroit, Miami #1, and Cle 1. No one is saying he’s perfect.. but he’s 21 and showing great things... if you can’t get excited about that then I feel sorry for you.

  19. Manish Mehta was a very accomplished defensive player during his NFL career and clearly knows more about defense than Bart Scott. Mehta is really going after him and wants to start a media war for attention. In fact, I think that he “can’t wait” for this to happen......I’ll show myself out now......

  20. I wonder how they would have prepared differently, by covering people? Here is the difference in Taylor vs Baker. Baker has a stronger arm, is slower, takes more chances and it more accurate.

  21. Which is ridiculous and utterly inexcusable. Everyone and their grandmother knew that Tyrod was already on a short leash entering that game. Couple that with a prime time slot and the allure of Darnold vs Mayfield and Todd Bowles can suck on my wang.

  22. Presumably if he just trusts his gut and lets it rip, he's going to have more good plays - and more bad plays. Personally, I think that's the right thing to do. Let him throw 30 picks this season, I don't care. Because I'm assuming that gradually he'll learn, and I want him to learn to be aggressive, not to learn to be afraid of everything.

  23. Just popped up on ESPN's news feed. Adams said on WFAN that the defence wasn't prepared for Mayfield. http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-41034496-4 I suppose Adams is trying to be honest but he's dropped his coaches into the fire, surely.

  25. Well it's my first post on here so I'll start with it's great to be around more people who get to feel the utter disappointment I do year in and year out (live in OH with no Jets fans in sight for obvious reason). I am optimistic about our future though so I always gotta stay positive no matter how many time I'm let down lol. So my question for you guys is: What are some players/things who/that have surprised you so far this season? Exceeded expectations? Have let you down so far? I'll start with a few of mine. Exceeded: Darren Lee - Finally breaking out of his (bust) status and playing like the backer I saw at OSU. Not just in the DET game but even in the CLE game (I went sadly) I saw him in or putting pressure on the the qb on a lot plays. Very excited to see how he can continue to progress and hopefully grow into an Elite MLB in this league. Quincy - All Jets fans who watched before the injury saw the potential he had, even with a poor (at the time) qb throwing him the ball. Great to see him bounce back and be a nice safety net for Darnold. Special teams - When's the last time I could say this?!? They actually look pretty good aside from when Roberts is doing his best Kerley impression with all the fair catches (understandably). Pass Rush - These guys look a lot better than any expected I believe. Still need to look for a true edge rusher in the draft or FA but I think they've been playing with a chip on their shoulder and look a lot better than expected. Darnold - Last but not least, I see a lot of people in toxic towards him, but I think he's looked pretty good for a 21 year old rookie with two seasons of college experience under his belt. The Lions game looked damn near perfect aside from the first throw when the youngest qb in NFL history is getting his nerves out of the way. The dolphins game is one that really impressed me. He was slinging the ball when Bates let him actually throw downfield. His first INT was just a rookie qb getting baited. His second was on Pryor (as he came forward and said), nonetheless could have been a better throw but Pryor and him have to be on the same page in the redzone. Other than those and the clock management issue before half he looked great. Being at that Cleveland game and being able to see the routes the receivers were running (when they didn't run the ball or throw a bubble screen) were not open. The receivers excluding quincy need to do a better job of getting open and beating 1on1 coverage. Obv he didn't look great in the game whatsoever but when you have a DLine that is getting pressure almost instantly, and a OC who doesn't want to throw past the LOS it's hard for any QB to showcase what they can do. He could've ultimately done better in all of these games but we knew what we were getting in a rookie qb as young as this with a team around him that's not too talented. Disappointed: Leo - Not much to say, hasn't lived up to the hype of where he was selected, regardless if he's getting doubled he needs to find ways to make some sort of impact. Robby - Besides that streak against DET what type of positive impact has he made? He's fumbled more than scored and doesn't even have 100 yards through almost a quarter of the year. Had very high expectations he would be a key factor in helping out Darnold and give this offense some sort of explosive weapon, but so far he hasn't looked it one bit. COACHING - This one is by far the biggest. Whether you start with the penalties, game management, limiting an offense, not adjusting, and the list goes on. I really wanted Bowles to do well, and I supported him up until now. He needs to go. They need to bring in an offensive minded HC who will truly progress and not ruin our Blue Chip QB. We haven't had a good offensive minded qb in ages, and it's forsure shown with how our O looks year in and year out. Sorry for dragging it on so long but I can't really talk about the Jets with a bunch of Cincy fans and expect them to understand. Let me know your thoughts!

  26. Clearly, GreenWhite is a jealous Giants fan, disgruntled at the fact that by the time Sam Darnold has come into his own and dominating the league, Eli will be retired, and Barkley will be looking to sign his final $100 contract, all while they have jack sh*t lined up behind center. Priceless.

  29. I can't stand women's voices doing NFL play by play & I can't stand the sideline interviews. Not that their any worse or better than some guys that do it that I can't stand but I'm old school & Madden, Micheals, Summerall, that's the way I want to hear a game. Its not sexist, it's just my preference. Some people don't like Romo, but I think he's great! It's like he's sitting next to me and yapping football. And he's critical when it's totally warranted, I don't want ball lickers like Jim Nance.

  32. Bowles sucks, and I get that it’s attractive to jump on the pile when he’s getting tackled, but I’d add in: Funny thing is even dropping 7-8 into coverage the Browns’ guys were still open. Maybe I just don’t get it but I don’t think Cleveland ditches the entire playbook, in favor of their other totally different playbook where receivers run routes that get them open instead, when a new QB comes in. That is, unless the original gameplan for Taylor was, “No need to defend any routes deeper than 8 yards.” Bad as Bowles/Rodgers are - and they are bad - I doubt that was the case. The “new rookie QB” change is a lame excuse anyway, otherwise every QB coming off the bench mid-game would have a good game. So much so it’d be routine/commonplace to pull the clear-starter QB any time you’re down by 2 scores because no one really gameplans for more obvious backups than Mayfield either. Put aside the Trumaine Johnson blitz; it was one play and didn’t directly result in 21 points. There were some other key plays where the coverage was (or should have been) there by design, except the DB(s) just got beat when the ball was in the air, a LB tripped on his own feet, a receiver came down with a contested catch in traffic, and one where Mayfield found the narrowest of passing lanes over the middle despite what ended up being triple coverage; Sam has done that a couple times himself and it was picked off or incomplete (as it so often is with anyone making such throws). And gee, I wonder if it would have helped any if there was a really good pass rusher on the team, so pressure wouldn’t just disappear whenever 8+ DBs and ILBs all drop back into coverage on pass plays, and we can generate sacks and hurried bad throws and throwaways by sending only 4. This is why a reliably good one is so important and a pair of 1s and a giant contract for a unique one like Mack outside (or Donald inside, not that he was offered) isn’t as crazy as it sounded. When guys like that are on their game it’s like having a 12th defender on the field on passing downs, where an extra LB/DB instead gets to routinely drop into coverage because the DC doesn’t always have to rush 5+ just so the QB has less than 4 seconds to throw it. This is of course in addition to some valid criticism thrown the Bowles/Rodgers way.

  33. Yea... a 15 yard throw on a line. Meaning it probably traveled 20-25 in the air. Do you know anything about football?

  34. How about just blitzing/pressuring the crap out of him instead of sitting back and hoping the clock would run out before they took the lead? How about playing like good teams and take some chances with a lead to extend the lead. I am not that worried about the staff spending hours prepping for a backup, I have a problem with their lack of intelligence and ability to react on the fly. Bowles has proven that if given plenty of time he can get his team prepared, but he has also shown that when things go sideways he can't adjust.

  37. The man deserves all the credit in the world. The guy is a QB from Harvard who has carved out a very lucrative and hugely overachieving career. He has never been a long term starter quality but he has come in as a back up and produced huge results for 3 teams now. He's tough and a good leader and it is up to the gms to see though this to his long term limitations, but they don't do it. Don;t blame Fitz for asking for the moon and having dumb gms give it or near give it to him.
    4 points
  38. I’m not worried about his arm strength. Unless you actually believe his velocity would be put to shame by the likes of Fitz, Brees, Pennington, etc. he has more than enough arm. There are reasons that a throw might have an arc to it that don’t automatically mean there’s some innate lack of arm strength.
