  5. This, from Matt Moore, really gets at what I’ve been saying about Gase (and Mangini, and Parcells, etc). Way too much of how fans perceive Jets coaches is based on how much those coaches try to kiss the fans’ asses. Herm did it masterfully and Rex was obsessed with fellating the base, both here and in Buffalo, and as a result, fans gave both of those guys a pass for way too long, and they both held onto their jobs for way too long. You’d like to think that we’re above this sort of nonsense, but we’re not. Both Rex and Herm went to smaller markets, tried slinging that “best fans in the league” bullsh*t, and both were run out of those towns in under three seasons because those fans don’t give a sh*t about getting their balls rubbed, they just want to win. Is it that Jets fans simply don’t expect to win, so they factor in how the coach makes them *feel* instead?

  8. Kyle Shanahan's offense (DVOA) from 2018, when he had a bad roster and an amount of injuries similar to us in their severity: In 2017: 20th overall. Are we gonna slam Shanahan for regression from 2017 to 2018 without looking at the context of the situations? I'm not a Gase defender, per se, but this is pretty simple. No matter how great of an offensive coach you are, when the talent at skill positions and OL are horrible and the injuries stack up, especially at QB, you can't compensate to even get middle of the pack numbers. Are there outliers there? I'm sure there are, but most of the time this is what happens. Gase had horrible rosters in Miami, and to top it off, his QB was never healthy. As a head coach, when he had talent and his starting QB, (until Tannehill got hurt at the end of the season) he went to the playoffs and his offense finished in a respectable place, despite trotting out Matt Moore for 4 games (He threw for 8 Tds and 3INTs at 8.3 YPA over this stretch, at 33 Years old). This is why I am ultimately willing to give the guy another year. Maccagnan did such a poor job constructing this roster, it's hard to think of any coach that could have done any differently, let alone better under the circumstances. If Joe Douglas can successfully revamp this roster and nothing changes? Well that is something that will need to be addressed after next season. Quite frankly, we overachieved this year. If Bowles was the HC and finished 7-9 after a 1-7 start, with all these injuries, the consensus around the league and throughout the fanbase would be that he should be in the running for Coach Of The Year. As T0m already said, Gase isn't a Rex Ryan/Bowles/Herm/etc. type. He isn't going to kiss the fanbases ass, and he isn't always going to be the most likeable guy. His attitude is more along the lines of Parcells and BB. The players here needed that after years of running their own ship unsupervised and without discipline. That won't win hearts over and that's why, in my opinion, the good he actually did do this season is overlooked.

  12. Adam Gase’s former players urge Jets fans to ‘just relax’ By Brian Costello February 1, 2020 | 3:05pm | Updated MIAMI — Three of Adam Gase’s former players will be taking the field Sunday in Super Bowl 2020. Those players each said Jets fans need to have some patience with the coach. “Just relax, man, let the man do his job,” 49ers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders said when asked what he would say to Jets fans. “It’s not gonna happen overnight. Nothing really happens overnight. It’s gonna be a process, you gotta get the right players in.” Sanders played under Gase in 2014, when Gase was the offensive coordinator with the Broncos. Two of Gase’s former Dolphins players are on the Chiefs. Backup quarterback Matt Moore and running back Damien Williams played for Gase in Miami and are now back here looking for a ring. All three praised Gase’s coaching and offensive mind, something Jets fans are skeptical about after the team finished last in the league in offense in his first season. Another popular question has been about some of Gase’s former players flourishing this year and whether that was because they are being coached better now. The most notable is Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who had a career year after struggling at times in Miami under Gase. “I don’t think that’s fair,” said Moore, who was Tannehill’s backup in 2016 and 2017 under Gase. “I think Adam’s a great offensive coach. Like anything, it takes time. I think he’s unique when he stands at the podium, for sure. I’m sure that’s part of it for fans, but the guy knows his stuff.” Williams has scored five touchdowns in these playoffs for Kansas City, and he also has been lumped in with Tannehill as players performing better away from Gase, a premise the running back disagrees with. “It’s timing,” Williams said. “At the end of the day when Gase was here, we went to the playoffs. Tannehill had a great year that year and then ended up getting hurt. I feel like if that didn’t happen, it would have been a different story. I feel like Gase did a great job of coming in and turning that organization around.” Williams credited Gase with making him a more complete running back, which he said has helped him in Andy Reid’s offense. Sanders said Gase can flourish if the Jets’ roster improves. “Obviously I’m sure Jets fans are upset, but at the same time, people gotta understand how hard it is to win in this league,” Sanders said. “When Kyle [Shanahan] first got here, they lost a lot of games, then last year they didn’t have a good year, and now we’re back in the Super Bowl ’cause we plugged in key players like [Nick] Bosa, like myself, like other guys, and then everything started to click. I hope that happens with Gase as well.”

  16. Rex made it to the playoffs in 2009 with a whopping two more wins than Gase, and he had a Super Bowl caliber roster that he had absolutely nothing to do with. When tasked with coaching a roster with his hands on it, he was a total sh*tshow. The love some people have for that buffoon is completely unwarranted.

  17. Just as one point of comparison, Troy palamulu, who was just elected to the HOF, had the following in his 12 year career: 32 interceptions 12 sacks 14 forced fumbles So far Adams has 2 interceptions, 12 sacks and 6 forced fumbles in 3 years.

  24. Cooked up a beef, beer, and bean chili today that I've spent the better part of a decade trying to perfect. It'll get there by 2030, but it's close. I'm frying up 50 wings close to game time, which will be tossed in some homemade buffalo sauce (Frank's, butter, garlic, shallots, salt, black pepper, touch of cayenne). There will of course be bleu cheese and celery sticks. I have two dips on the to-do list tomorrow: guac and queso. Trying a new queso recipe this year that includes some chipotles in adobo sauce, and I recently pickled a ton of jalapenos, so I'll certainly be throwing some of those in too. The host is ordered in carnitas tacos and is making "french onion soup stuffed mushrooms". I have no idea what the latter item is and I'm incredibly curious. I believe there will be shrimp cocktail as well, but I don't think I'll be in the mood to go into anaphylactic shock on Super Bowl Sunday. If it was last year's game, I probably would've reached for a shrimp or two at halftime. And beer. Plenty of beer. It is a crime that Monday isn't a national holiday.

  25. After the opening kick off of the 3rd quarter in the Indy game, it was only a 1 point game...when Manning and other starters were benched sometime in the 3rd quarter it was a 1 score game. Not saying we would of beat the 14-0 Colts if they didn't sit guys, but we definitely had a chance when starters came out half way through the 3rd quarter. As for Cinncy in week 17, they could of played their starters all game, we were gonna kick their ass regardless that night, and showed we were the better team the following week on the road against them too. 26. Most SOJFs will ignore this. Gase coached Tannehill to an 8-5 record in 2016. The Fish went on to go 10-6 that year. And let's be real, guys like Tannehill, Damien Williams aren't anything special. Sure, Tannehill did an incredible job handing the ball off to Henry this year and Damien Williams can do some things with Mahomes at QB, but let's not act as if these guys are studs in any way shape or form. I am not ready to lock Gase up to a 10 year contract. Far from it. But he deserves some more time to prove himself with the Jets. With that said, this is mostly a product of sensitive Jets fan who can't handle the fact that their Head Coach had goofy eyes during an interview. SOJFs are just easily triggered.

  36. Warfish, the issue is not just 2019. the Jets over the last 15 years have been experts at winning meaningless games in non playoff seasons. If you don't make the playoffs the season is a failure so even this past year with our happiness at winning 7 games we are now talking about not drafting a OT in round one because the top 3 guys will be gone. We seem to get that 'feel good' win late often and it kills us in the draft.

  37. Nobody expected him to win a Super Bowl but how about not producing the worst offense in the league? or delivering the 24th, 25th, 31st and 32nd offense in the league.....progressively getting worse. The guy isn’t a good coach...
