Sam to 49ers, he turns into stud in the offense I’ve been saying he’d thrive in since day 1. Jimmy G back to Pats, the guy I said we should have drafted that year, they return to dominance. Jets ruin Trevor. This is the way.7 points

I know we are in full tank, but how could a team in our position NOT kick the tires here given how poor the interior of our line has been?6 points

Matt Nagy was the OC under Andy Reid (like Bienemy) and got a HC job because people thought (like Bienemy) that standing next to Andy Reid while pretending to be the OC made you a great coaching candidate.6 points

Interesting. He was a Center coming out of college I thought. Then they drafted Bradbury and moved him to Guard. Then they drafted Cleveland and he's playing well so I guess there's no starting spot for Elfein now but why cut him? He's a UFA after this season but he's cheap for now. On the other hand, notice how the Vikings keep drafting OL high and now have a line so good that they can afford to cut him. And despite mostly sucking at football, they have an excellent running game. I know this must be confusing to Jet fans...6 points

It's really quite simple for me. I go by progress and plan as I can identify it. I can see fragments of what looks like a design from JD. I see the untying of knots all over the place. Enunwa, Tru, Leo, Roberts, Adams, Bell etc. There is still Anderson and Mosely that need to be addressed. I see an attention to positions of importance like OL and WR. Even if attempts don't work like Kalil and McGovern so far, The attention is there. Gase? I gave him as much benefit of the doubt as I was able to muster but I can't try hard enough to see an actual plan on the field. It seems random and slapdick to me. I defended him early on even though I despised the hiring. But come on. If Gase was even an adequate offensive play caller we wouldn't be seeing Loggains calling plays. It's not even up for debate. Gase failed. What's worse, Not hiring a QB coach or a legit OC indicated Gase felt he was all Sam needed. But instead we see a QB sitting alone on the bench while crumbling mid game. All the while the only coach on staff to help him is sitting alone on the other side of the bench writing in a notebook. It's indefensible. Jd brought in 7 OLmen and 5 WR's this offseason to begin the build. Gase can't even get the young QB to stop his slide into the abyss and now we're talking about getting a shiny new one. I don't see a comparison to the job these two men have done. Sam? He should have been afforded every convenience and supportive structure but instead he had a skeleton crew and a GM for two drafts and off seasons that didn't value OL or WR. And that's whether or not he was ever going to be able to be a franchise QB. It's sad actually.6 points

You are aware that Dana Point is in Orange County, south of Los Angeles, right. It is 500 miles away from San Francisco? You know kind of like the same distance as Buffalo is from NYC.5 points

I loved the idea of taking Lamb, but I knew deep down LT was the way to go. We needed help at both positions but if you want a great LT, you have to get him early. It's a lot easier to hit on a good WR after the first round than it is to find a good LT. As far as which one? I don't claim to be an amateur GM. There were 4 who were considered can't miss, and they were going to go early, so I was going to be happy with whichever one was there when we picked. I was fine with Douglas going with the high risk/reward guy, now lets hope he works out.5 points

I just wanted to stop by and say I support this thread. It is my belief that @Creepy Lurker and his Fire Maccagnan thread had a major impact on the Jets decision making. So I will help with this one as much as I can. Fire Adam Gase! Hire someone better!5 points

That 49er front office is an active group & there is no doubt in my mind that they aren't keeping an eye on Sam Darnold & the situation developing with the New York Jets. Sam is way too young & has too many skills to give up on and landing in San Francisco with Kyle Shanahan could be the best situation for the young man. Sam Darnold has never had a running game in his 3 years here, Shanahan came in here & showed us what a good running game looks like using stretch plays & great blocking to kick our azzes. Circumstances just didn't work out here for Sam quick enough & time has run out on his rookie contract here. I think 2021 is pretty cut & dry depending on where we end up in the draft. If we're at #1 or #2 in the draft, Sam gets put out for auction. Sams from Dana Point California, his family lives there still, and the 49ers are definitely in the need of a QB. Garapolo can't stay healthy, they were a team on the rise, and while Darnold has been spinning his wheels here going home, being more comfortable & stepping into a much more advanced offense with weapons all around him could easily salvage his career. To me this just seems like a no brainer, and I would be shocked if we draft a new QB if the Niners aren't the 1st team calling. The teams around the Niners are on the rise, Seattle, Arizona, Rams, all with good young QBs & Russell Wilson. Salvaging a guy like Sam for a mid #1 pick is a chance I think they'll take. You look at the Niners roster WHEN HEALTHY and a mid round 1st probably doesn't even get on the field. If we pick 1 or 2, the Vegas odds will be pointing to Shanahan & the 49ers.4 points

Of all the inglorious suffering we are made to endure, “Flacco to Gore” is the most insufferable. A 42 year old QB handing off to a 68 year old RB in an 0-9 season is among the worst things long suffering Jets fans can hear. I understand that losing is the priority at this point, but playing the rookies should be as well. The words “Morgan to Ty Johnson” would be sweet music to our ears. “Offensive genius” and “ We have to see the tape” pales in comparison to hearing the dreaded “Flacco to Gore” over and over and over again.4 points

Wanted Becton & was happy he made it to 11. Let's face it, taking Olineman isn't exciting in the draft but Dbrick/Mangold was the lead to 2009/2010. Thats why I'm dreaming of landing Trevor Lawrence at #1, trading Sam for a late/mid #1, drafting Creed Humphrey with our 2nd #1. Joe had already signed Thuney in free agency, Trevor has this line to play behind in his 1st year in the NFL- Becton-Thuney-Humphrey-McGovern-Fant. JD uses another 3rd rounder for a stud guard that falls, so we have Fant who can play RT or LT, McGovern playing RG but can play Center if needed, Clark, VR, Rookie back ups for depth! That's a damn good line.4 points

Bro. No. GTFO with this. Darnold at one time was a decent "Prospect". Gase is a talentless know nothing Hack with zero feel for the game, trash interpersonal ability, egomaniacal psychosis, and a total fear of having anyone competent around him that may expose him. Dude is a ******* franchise killer who managed to parlay a year as Peyton Coffee Bitch into two HC jobs by bullsh*tting two of the newest and dumbest owners in the NFL. Give me a break. We get it, Darnold has sh*t the bed, but Gase is GARBAGE. Now go wash your mouth out with some Lifebuoy Soap and Guinness.4 points

The guy you all wanted in the fourth round (but have conveniently not mentioned, I presume, after looking at his stats) was Antonio Gandy-Golden, who has one reception for three yards on the year.4 points

I'm assuming the Jets get the 1st pick. I've never seen a Jets team as bad as the one we're watching this season. So if the Jets are picking number 1 is it an absolute must that they take Trevor Lawrence? IMO, the answer is NO? Now I'm NOT suggesting the Jets take Zach Wilson with the 1st pick. That, IMO, would be wasting the equity in the 1st pick. But I must say I really like Zach Wilson. Who's to say Joe Douglas couldn't pull off a major coup by trading out of the number 1 pick, accumulating more picks, and still taking Zach Wilson? The latest says Zach Wilson is a mid first round pick. What do you think of such a plan? Is it so important based on the kind of prospect Trevor Lawrence is that the Jets MUST take him? I like Lawrence, but I don't personally see the next Peyton Manning when I'm looking at him. I just see a good prospect. Same with Zach Wilson. Now, I do think Trevor Lawrence almost certainly goes number 1 but not necessarily by Joe Douglas. I see more than ever an opportunity to fill a lot of holes on the roster with good, quality young players.3 points

Two of the greatest QB prospects of the last decade at the top of the draft and we would pass on both to take a lesser talent. Ask the Bears if they would like a do-over on drafting Trubisky instead of Mahomes or Watson. That's pretty much what I think of this suggestion even though the details are very different. You don't pass on a guy comped to Luck, Mahomes, Elway for draft picks. No matter how many. I can live with Fields plus picks instead of Lawrence maybe...but that's as far as it goes. Anything else should be a one-way ticket to unemployment for any NFL GM.3 points

I think you have to take whatever QB you have rated highest. It's just too important of a position. If Zach Wilson is the guy then absolutely trade down and grab him later. But if you like Fields or TL better than you have to take him. All those extra picks would be amazing but when all's said and done QB is too important to play games with.3 points

We are such trash I'd laugh harder if we weren't so absurd.... Draft trevor into a horrible situation while admitting Sam should be above average in SF and think you are getting a 1st for him.... We took a kid who could have been fun to watch in the right style of play action mixed with air raid offense. Instead put him in the most meticulous vanilla WCO Adam Gase could concoct. We allowed his 75¢ brain turn into a 10¢ brain through a mix of inept offense, bottom 10 o line play, and welcomed PTSD from opposing pass rushers .... The kid is a shell of what he hoped he'd be and people think this situation is going to end well with another 1st to go along with Trevor let's see what the Jets reality looks like 9 months from now .... I'm going to continue to expect and some how enjoy a large trash fire.3 points

I agree man. Mostly. I still don't like the Morgan pick. I think where we separate a bit is that I don't see it as a reason not to believe in JD. He made trades in draft and created more capital which can loosen the reigns to grab some outside guys. I believe guys like Davis, Perine, Morgan and Mann fall into that category. Guys like Becton, Mims, Clark, Hall and an edge guy were always getting chosen with our original picks. That shows that JD has an understanding of what a team needs to use the draft for. I really liked the draft overall and this was the first time I could say that in forever. There's only a handful of times I felt that way. The Marvin Jones draft, 2006, 2007 and maybe one or two more. (I liked Johnny Mitchell too lol) I had a couple of mocks where I tried to do some different things to see how the boards might fall and the only one that made sense all the way to the end was when I took an OT with that first pick. As much as I like Jeudy, and for good reason, the board fell really ugly when a WR was taken in the 1st. I took Becton, Perine, Hall, Lamar Jackson and Zuniga in one mock or another. So yeah I was pretty happy to end up with a few of them. I'll say this. If JD would have grabbed DPJ with that 6th instead of trading it to the Colts for Wilson, I would have labeled this the highest potential draft in our history hahaha That's how close it was for me.3 points

I wanted Cee Dee Lamb. He’s off to a great start. Wills was my favorite LT with Becton as my second favorite LT (I came around to him late in the process). But I was all in Lamb. It’s probably to early to be calling anyone a disappointment though.3 points

Joe Douglas did a great job drafting positions across the board that we had needs and in all areas. He drafted wide receiver, punter, left tackle, quarterback, and as far as the undrafted free agents he went Buckwild! The guy did a fantastic job. Unfortunately you can't expect immediate results. That's just not how it works.3 points

I know we all hate his balls but a 24 year old 2x all pro is the definition of hitting on the pick also Mo and Mark sanchez 2 extensions over a decade is negligent it wasn't just the first round picks. They didn't extend robby who was a 2nd rd RFA/UDFA. They didn't extend Andre Roberts because he was old? They didn't extend demario davis, why? it's gotten to the point where the only assets the team has are Becton, QW and nothing3 points

You bring Morgan up through YOUR system so you don’t pay a vet backup. Again, Jets fans are in the HERE & NOW, Joe Douglas is a guy who learned under mentors who actually have a plan. Maybe JD decided to not take another WR in the 4th because he’s gonna have a war chest of cap money to bring in a savvy vet like Allen Robinson or Ju Ju Smith. You don’t think these guys do their homework on 2021 free agents, their current situations & where their current teams are with the salary cap? We saw Joe Douglas play chess while Macc played checkers when he traded out & freaked out every Jet fan posting OMG he traded out when Mims was right there! He did his f*cking homework, had an idea about other teams needs, available players ect. It was like a f*cking ninja move compared to the idiocy we’ve had to watch over the last 10 years during the draft! 1 freaking draft & we have fans already wanting to can our GM? Woody & Chris Johnson stumbling in to being able to bring Douglas in here is the most fortunate stroke of luck this organization has had in 52 years. Unlike Parcells he’s in this for the long haul. Painful as it is this season, it’s totally worth the direction I think JD can take us. Every time he sent another bad move packing it was a signal he has the balls today’s criticism for tomorrow’s accolades.3 points
