  1. No more, "why couldn't he convince Joe Thuney to sign with the 2-14 Jets over the back-to-back AFC champs?" Or, "remember that time he took a backup QB with the second of three fourth rounders? I'm still not over that!" Or, "I can't believe he's signing guys who might not even make the final roster. Why doesn't he sign eighty-five starters?" Don't worry, kids, your time is coming! With this draft, the Jets will be cemented as Joe Douglas' team, for better or worse. He's got his hand-picked head coach. And not just the only coach who would take his calls, but a highly so

  8. That is the truth of the matter. Anyone think Lamar Jackson would've won an MVP on the Jets? Or Mahomes would've been to a couple Super Bowls already? Josh Rosen is on a trash heap and Josh Allen is a franchise QB. You have to have a team around these guys.

  11. Because offensive linemen sometimes take a while to develop. Players the Jets have taken and let go have gone on to be starters elsewhere. A guy like this -whose name I don’t know- could be the next guy who jumps from practice squad fodder to player. It costs next to nothing, with zero commitment. It’s buying a scratch-off that’s almost certainly a loser but could win you a million bucks. If you lose your dollar, you really don’t care. But if you hit...

  12. Obviously the immediate reaction is "who cares about social media??" but posting a goodbye to fans and former teammates has essentially become an "industry standard" for professional sports. You can call it fake, insincere or whatever but it does show a certain amount of respect to the fans that supported you and maturity to do it. Why does Sam get a pass because he was treated unfairly by a lack of talent around him? If Jamal Adams can post this after everything that went down at the end of his tenure here than Sam has no excuse:

  18. I’m on record really hating the disservice this organization did to Sam. He got a raw deal and we shipped him out because we couldn’t support him with adequate coaching or surrounding talent. But that ship has sailed, we’re moving forward. I’m 100% in on Wilson if that’s the pick. I pray we finally get the right guy in here and that we actually do right by him. It’ll be an easy answer as to whether the Jets have learned their lesson when see what’s done at #23 and 34.

  19. The other thing I really like about that quote is that he clearly understands that he didn’t/wasn’t able to do enough to support Darnold since he arrived in June of 2019. It’s understanding like that which should lead him to build around (presumably) ZW further with this draft. Seems to me that there’s a consensus in the building that we haven’t seen since Bill Parcells was dictator.

Really grounded. Says all the right things and doesn't seem coached. Seems to love football and has a desire not to fail. Which is good. Confirmed he has been talking with Young. He's our QB

  25. https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/04/08/inside-story-of-why-jets-traded-darnold-new-qb-search Long but good read. Really get a sense of how Douglas is thinking through all this. The first thing you need to know about how the Jets arrived at the decision they did is that, in a normal year, they might’ve pulled the trigger a lot sooner than April 5. In fact, about a week before free agency, Douglas had a deal on the table that was good enough to move on. At that point, the first flash point for the Darnold market—the late January trade that sent Matthew Stafford from Detroit to L.A.—had gene

  29. This is an interesting added chapter in the football analytics digest. RAS (relative athletic score) pits them against 30 years of prospect measurables.. (Probably breaking my own cardinal rule posting this here vs Draft Forum) Thought you would all want to take a look given that it may be a reasonable predictor of value with Jets/JD You'll notice a few things ^^ here that are of interest, but i wanna hang a lantern on Nate/Nathan McCrary ...there's so much Jeff Wilson to his game and he fits our scheme perfectly.. SUUUUPER deep sleeper though.

  34. The plan should be simple. Lawson, Rankins maybe a forthcoming signing at CB.... that's enough on D this year. Robert Saleh should be able to coach up what he has in this first year on defense. For Year 1 of this rookie QB's career we need to over-allocate resources to offense and get him started on the right foot. QB, OL, WR, OL would be perfectly acceptable to me with the Jets first 4 picks. I don't care if the Jets are losing 31-26 games. It's those 26 points on offense that we want to see.

  39. So...he polled all the teams who are not drafting a QB no matter what, and therefore didn't waste a bunch of time breaking down film of prospects they're not drafting. This is important stuff. Almost as important as Casserly telling us what life was like back on his home planet Vulcan.

  40. Joe Douglas might not work out. His draft picks might not pan out. BUT.... I have been a Jets fan for over 40 years, and I haven't seen this level of competency since....well, 40 years. In today's day and age, everyone wants results NOW. I get people wanted us back in the playoffs after this one season. You gotta give this guy two more drafts. After that, if we aren't in the playoffs, he is going to be in trouble. But this was a VERY bad football team, thanks to 8 years of drafting poorly. If Kansas City had drafted as poorly as the Jets the eight years prior to Mahomes co
