  2. The Jets new 4-3 scheme requires very different linebackers from a 3-4 scheme. Instead of players who can run, play in space and put their hand in the dirt to challenge the tackle the 4-3 places its emphasis on guys who can run, tackle and cover. The Jets never did find the outside rush linebacker that makes a 3-4 scheme work. We did try - I will not soil this post with a reminder of failed attempts. Remember your Parcells on 3-4 linebackers - "It's hard to find guys who are big enough." Instead, the 4-3 requires three very different linebackers. The most important and hardest to f

  3. The username stealing troll doesn’t like Zach Wilson because he is concerned with him POTENTIALLY getting injured at the next level and the level of competition he played against in college. He then goes on to say that he loves and would like to trade for Jimmy G; a QB who has a severe injury history IN the NFL, who played lesser competition than Wilson in college. You actually can’t make this sh*t up.

  6. I like Wilson but this is getting out of hand. Lawrence is a national champion and has beat the sh*t out of some very good teams. If we had the first pick everyone would be all over Lawrence like they are Wilson.

  8. Yes, drafting a 3 star recruit is a waste of time. Who wants a 3 star QB like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers, Justin Herbert, Dak Prescott, or Russell Wilson? We should only draft 5 stars like Christian Hackenberg.

  9. Two Broncos on the Jets? I've bandied about Eskridge at every turn over the past 8 weeks or so. To me, he marks the start of next tier of WRs where you're getting good value (round 4)... I'm not a fan of the Tyreek comp, it's become too en vogue as of late, but I've been throwing the Emmanuel Sanders label on him. Fantastic short area burst, good hands, great release-- Just watch this a few times to appreciate the subtlety here to get the DB to hesitate just enough

  10. The upside part isnt debateable. We have enough games on Trevor Lawrence that we know what he is. His ceiling is a Phillip Rivers/Matt Ryan type. He can be a B plus qb. Zach Wilson ceiling is patrick mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. He can be an A plus qb.

  11. Good schematic article. I'm sure Saleh/Ulbrich will have wrinkles, but based on the player responsibilities the CB's won't be as "stressed" as in a man to man defense. Therefore we may not be looking for a CB that early: http://insidethepylon.com/football-101/glossary-football-101/2015/12/09/itp-glossary-cover-3/#:~:text=Cover 3 is a zone,or dime- backs) underneath.

  14. This is a zone based coverage scheme on defense so a premier CB is not necessary. The most important aspects of this defense is having a strong pass rush from your front 4 and Lbers that can play off the ball in space. Gone are the days of man cover guys for this team.

  16. Football is a simple game. If you can rush 4 and get the other QB you can stop anyone. If you can protect your QB and open running lanes, you can score on anyone.

  17. Beefing up the Offensive Line is the major area required to get premium production from Becton, Wilson & Mims. No other roster group upgrade will provide more benefit than the OL. Becton had some struggles in PP and didn’t have help inside with Eflein. Sammy’s struggles and thus Mims were due to inadequate talent at OL The only problem is that #23 is too early for what will be remaining of the OL talent. I think Etienne will be there and I have come around to grabbing him. Some here (me included previously)believe any back with speed & 1 cut ability could prosper in a Shanahan

  20. Yes, and unlike the infamous Idzik 12 -where nine of those twelve picks were after the third round- JD has four firsts, three seconds, and three thirds over the next two years. That's a lot of premium fire-power, but it's all potential until you turn those picks into players.

  22. So...he polled all the teams who are not drafting a QB no matter what, and therefore didn't waste a bunch of time breaking down film of prospects they're not drafting. This is important stuff. Almost as important as Casserly telling us what life was like back on his home planet Vulcan.

  23. https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/justin-fields-progressions-first-read-analysis How many times did Justin Fields throw beyond his first read? If you ask unnamed NFL executives, he apparently did it seven times. On 200-odd passing attempts this season, that’s a concerning number. If you ask me, 42 times—good for 19% of his throws. I’ve created this helpful table to help explain the difference. Justin Fields Throwing Beyond His First Read Who Said It Throws Beyond First Read Are They Ri

  28. Really not sure their grading system here. How are the Jets not last? This isn't about hitting on first or second round picks. This is about the entire draft. Jets have zero depth and talent on the roster because barely any mid to late round pick hit or is even in the league. Even our early round picks that hit aren't on the team anymore. That should also count as a negative.

  29. When the 18-0 Pats played the 10-6 Giants in the Supe... Giants had a mediocre secondary. But their front seven D got hot towards the season's end. And It carried over into the playoffs. They put tremendous pressure on opposing QBs. And that covered up for their secondary's weaknesses. Entering that Supe...the Brady-Moss lead offense was a record breaking one. But the Giants front seven dominated the Pats. Holding them to just 14 points. It ain't easy to defeat Brady or Mahomes in a big game like that. But having a dominant pass rush that can apply relentless pressur

  31. As KC and Mahommes showed in the super bowl, you are not getting the ball to the TD scorers unless you can protect your QB, something the jets have not done for 10 years. I want td scorers over defense, but oline over td scorers.

  38. https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/04/08/inside-story-of-why-jets-traded-darnold-new-qb-search Long but good read. Really get a sense of how Douglas is thinking through all this. The first thing you need to know about how the Jets arrived at the decision they did is that, in a normal year, they might’ve pulled the trigger a lot sooner than April 5. In fact, about a week before free agency, Douglas had a deal on the table that was good enough to move on. At that point, the first flash point for the Darnold market—the late January trade that sent Matthew Stafford from Detroit to L.A.—had gene

  42. Certainly an amateur when it comes to this, but from what I understand these dudes would fit the scheme: Day one targets AVT, Teven Jenk, Darrisaw - maybe Creed Humphrey? Day two targets Creed Humphrey, Radunz, Cosmi, Spencer Brown, Eichenberg Day three targets Kendrick Green, Robert Hainsey, Drew Dalman, Jimmy Morrissey, Stone Forsythe The way I see it, you need to bring in at least two of these guys. Both might not start immediately. My preference is to draft a future RT early @ 23/34 and play them at guard as a rookie while adding d
