JD just signed Corey Davis to a big contract, he negotiated to keep Jamison Crowder here for another year, he has used two 2nd round picks on wide receivers in two years. I donβt think heβs going to throw a bag of money and picks at a Davante Adams trade. Now, if this discussion were happening around free agency time prior to the signing of Davis, maybe something happens. But not now. Adding Adams at the tippy top of the wide receiver depth chart pushes everybody down. It means guys like Mims wonβt see the field much, and I just get the feeling JD wants to develop some of these younger guys here. If the Jets were a win-now team with a wide receiver problem then this move would make sense. Not now.11 points

Plus whatever they're paying Gase. Although to be fair, Gase's entire salary was dead money from day 1.11 points

I for one attach football to my youth, hence my moniker Charlie Brown. That is before my mother passed from lung cancer and my father whom I live with was bigger than life, who was/is my hero and he wasn't, as he is now battling dementia.... It is news like this that reminds me what is important in my life and thankful to all of you for being here..... Rest In Peace Coach.....10 points

@bla bla bla Zach Wilson: 2021 4,120 passing yards (242 passing yards per game). 595 rushing yards (35 rushing yards per game because this kid has flat out WHEELS). 7.5 yards per pass attempt. (4 300+ yard passing games). 28 TDs / 9 INTs. 63.7% completion percentage. QB Rating of 92.7. 12 wins (12-5). Rookie of the Year. (Playing behind Becton/Vera-Tucker/Moses and alongside Davis/Mims/Elijah/Crowder and Carter = An unstoppable Rookie QB).8 points

Tragic untimely death's serve as a a constant reminder that time is the most valuable commodity of all, and as every moment passes we each have less time here on this earth. Make the most of every moment. RIP Coach Knapp.8 points

Dead money cap hit doesnβt necessarily mean the Jets are paying that player this year, it could be just an accounting cap charge.7 points

Damn, Iβm heartbroken. Life is so precious and fragile. Hug your loved ones a bit tighter after today, fellaβs. Do a better job not taking each day for granted (weβre all guilty of this at times) & donβt let any moment becoming a fleeting one. That is the only thing that matters when you take away the bills, the relationship issues, the job issues or any manufactured inconvenience life brings to us. Donβt let anything steal your joy, your attention and your gratitude. RIP Coach Knapp.7 points

This is nonsense. Your SS is supposed to be able to cover a TE (you know, lined up on the strong side and all that), as well as be a last line of defense at the LoS. Itβs not a pass rushing position unless youβre Jamal Adams and suck at the other facets of your job. Safety is lowest valued position on defense in the league, and SSs are valued less than those ball hawking FSs who actually alter games by creating turnovers. To make a glorified, undersized, wannabe Edge the highest paid player at such an undervalued position is just dumb. Plain and simple.6 points

I think they are also paying a portion of Bobby Bonilla's yearly payment every July on Bobby Bonilla Day.6 points

Enunwas was always hurt, and Macc gave him injury guarentees. Darnold isn't the big deal, the Bell and Johnson are horrific.6 points
-
Enunwa got hurt but I think he had a lot of talent and potential - don't really blame anyone for that We got our money's worth out of Anderson even with the extra 1.3 million. Osemele was horrible, but these things happen so it might have been worth a shot JD cut his losses with Darnold pretty effectively - could have been a lot worse Bell and Johnson were horrible signings from Day 16 points

For those who don't want to watch, I looked at Jimmy G and Matt Ryan in their first seasons with Kyle Shanahan and tried to formulate a realistic Stat line for Zach Wilson. We are gonna look at competition %, Yards per Attempt, Yards per Game, QBR, TD% (percentage of passing touchdowns when looking at total attempts) and INT% (percentage of INTs when looking at total attempts). This isn't really an exact science just some off season free time haha Matt Ryan Comp %: 66% Yards per Attempt: 7.5 Yards per Game: 287 QBR: 64.1 TD %: 3.4 INT %: 2.6 Jimmy G Comp %: 67% Yards per Attempt: 8.8 Yards per Game: 260 QBR: 82.7 TD %: 3.9 INT %: 2.8 Zach Wilson Comp %: 67% Yards per Attempt: 8 Yards per Game: 250 QBR: 75 TD %: 3.5 INT %: 2.8 Jimmy G has only had 1 season with 16 games and had just under 500 attempts where as Matt Ryan's first year in the system he had 620ish attempts. When factoring the 17th game this year I figured we may see 500 pass attempts from Wilson. 66% Comp 8 Y/A 250 Y/G 4,250 Yards 17 TD 14 INT I'm sure he'll add more stats in the rushing department as I consider him far more mobile than Jimmy G or Ryan but I think this is a relatively conservative stat line if he plays in all 17 games. The 4,250 Yards is the stat I think a lot of people will think is outlandish but when you consider Sam's career best was 232 per Game I think it seems a little more attainable.5 points

It would be beyond VERY stupid on JD's part to trade for a top player who your hoping will turn your team around, and then TAG him and bring all that drama to the locker room. Not going to happen.5 points
-
This feels like the peak for this dead money problem. JD really had to make many of these unpleasant moves and incur the cap hit. This team is now getting younger, roster construction is based on draft picks, and Mosley seems to be the only guy with a truly bad contract at this point. Even new, expensive veterans like Davis and Lawson have relatively decent contracts.5 points

One of the worst free agent signings in any sport in history, but JD has a clearly different philosophy to avoid situations like Trumaine Johnson. You simply do not give someone their "Last contract". The minue Trumaine Johnson signed his name to that paper he had zero motivation, other then whatever internal drive to win that he had, to perform as he knew he wasnt getting another contract after the Jets. You cannot do that. JD has shown with players like Davis and Lawson that he is willing to pay, but that he keeps the contracts short which is a great way to motivate the players and avoid complete disasters like Trumaine5 points

Trumaine Johnson should be in jail for what he did to the Jets. LOL Or maybe Mac should be in the nut house.5 points

F***************ckkkkk!!!! I was so amped about Knapp and the way steve young talked about him, I figured we made a helluva hire! Man life is so fragile, had a terrible day at the job today and just saw this...πͺ. RIP GK and sending love and prayers to the Knapp family. Thanks for believing in our culture and promise as a team Mr. Knapp. I hope the Jets go on and shock the football world this season in your memory! Just absolutely gut wrenching news....5 points

All of our prayers need to be sent to the driver of the vehicle too because it was an accident he didn't mean to take this man's life and I'm praying for him right now because this is absolutely EATING HIM ALIVE right now πππ Such a tragic situation rest in heaven coach π5 points

Accidents happen man but my heart goes out to the driver. He didn't kill this man on purpose. My friend she got into a motorcycle accident and the man who struck her was so distraught he still to this day refuses to ever drive again and it wasn't his fault it was an accident bro and this man who struck Knapp feels 1,000,000 times worse than any of us could ever feel. Because he's the one who had an encounter with him π My mom is blessed to be alive she was hit head on by a kid who went to the same Church as my mom he was only 20 years old he fell asleep behind the wheel (no drugs or alcohol was found in his system) he crossed the median and hit my mom head on my mom's car flipped multiple times and ended up in a ditch on Ulmerton Rd. and my mom escaped with a broken knee and he passed away π still to this day 15 years later my mom writes him a personal letter because on that day they met one another π and even though she did nothing wrong she had survivors guilt and questioned herself for leaving work early or not staying after work late π The last thing any of us should be doing is blaming the driver he needs all of our prayers too man because this is absolutely eating him alive right now!5 points

It's funny how the Jets would do anything to have a Rodgers/Adams and would likely pay them whatever they want, but the Packers management are acting as if finding guys like that are easy because they got lucky twice with Favre and Rodgers. Can't wait to see Jordan Love passing to Allen Lazard and the packers going 4-12.4 points

I wrote out a similar post but held it back because I didn't believe it was worth the crap I'd get - but essentially: there is absolutely a world in which: 1) we all feel bad for coach and his family and acknowledge how terrible texting and driving is 2) this kid might actually be a really good kid who happened to be a teenager and make a relatively common mistake at a very bad time.4 points
-
This may be an unpopular take, but a recent study (2019) funded, I believe by the CDC, found that 39% of teen drivers have texted or emailed while driving. That's a lot of people texting and emailing. Most of us are still here because the dumb sh*t we did as teens (and beyond) didn't quite happen at exactly the wrong moment - Luck. This kid was probably a dumb teenager, which is to say, he was a teenager. At least, he was one of 40% of teenagers willing to admit to at times being distracted. I hope a lot of people learn from this. It's going to make me even more mindful of my distractions while driving. But, I also have empathy for this kid. His life is ruined. That doesn't preclude anyone from having empathy for the Knapp family.4 points

DEAD MONEY DOES NOT GET PAID TO PLAYERS.* It is an accounting fiction. It's money that was ALREADY paid to players, in the form of a signing bonus, that wasn't counted against the cap when paid and is now hitting the cap because the player was cut or traded. *Dead money that is from a cut player's guaranteed salary is actually paid to players, but unless I'm mistaken none of the Jets 24M in dead money is from guaranteed salary4 points

Who cares? It still hits the salary cap for this year.4 points

I couldn't disagree with this statement more. This year isn't about wins an losses it's about developing the youngest roster in the NFL. We're going to have, at a minimum, 6 new starters on offense, in a new system with a rookie QB. To says "Dubs" is the only stat that matters is really missing the big picture here.4 points

It does make you think twice. Cycling is a great sport, but it can be very dangerous. If you do decide to get into it, jsut be smart about it. Always wear a helmet. And pick and choose your routes wisely. I still ride, but after a couple of crashes (neither involving a car) I no longer ride on the roads. It is either driving to a bike trail or more often, riding my bike on a trainer in the safety of my basement. After crash #2 about 2 years ago, I decided it wasn't worth the risk to ride on the roads anymore.4 points
-
The bike lanes all over CA are top notch and I used to ride them a lot, but there are certain areas I just won't go on anymore at all. Even with the lanes clearly marked I see people swerve into them all the time, it's terrifying. If I'm riding on streets that have cars at this point if I'm not with a group I'll stick to my Peloton or a trail off the road.4 points
