  1. Just saying. They won a game. That doesn't mean there aren't problems but for the love of all things holy please exhale a bit. So many over reactions. Calm down, let's see if this young roster can put together a winning streak and beat the Eagles. Plenty of stuff needs to be fixed, but this QB is like 3 minutes into his NFL career. So for now just enjoy the win.

  2. Since there are so many threads hitting us over the head with negativity, here are some things I liked today: -Elijah Moore continues to show he is the real deal -The offensive line. AVT is amazing, Van Rotten out of the lineup and they are improving. Can't wait for Becton to get back and move Fant to RT. -The defense battled. Sure it was the Texans but they played tough, played physical. JFM OH MY, that was a game and a half. -LaFleur in the booth is very impressive. He makes adjustments and finds a much better flow with his play calling What did you like today about the Jets game?

  3. In this decade of barren football as a Jet fan, its always nice to get a win. So I don't care if it came at the expense of 2-9 HOU team, a win is a win. After trailing 14-3 the Jets outscored HOU 18-0 to gain their third win of the season 21-14. I was hoping for 4 wins over the last 8 games of the season, this is the first one. Let's take a look: Special Teams - I love Matt Ammendola's leg strength but he's too unreliable on kicks inside of 45 yards. And I think the coaching staff feels the same way, because they pulled him off the field late in the fourth quarter and went for it instead of attempting a FG. He'll be fortunate to be on the team for the rest of the season. Defense - It didn't start off very promising as they gave up two first half TD's. But they bounced back and shutout HOU over the final 40 minutes of the game. Thankfully Tyrod Taylor likes to hold the ball which allowed the DLine to generate 5 sacks. - Nice to see John Franklin-Myers emerge for the first time since signing his contract. Excellent game as he had 3 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 2 TFL, Pass Defensed, 2 QB Hits and an INT. - Quinnen Williams teamed up with Franklin-Myers to dominate HOU OLine. Williams almost matched Franklin-Myers stats as he generated 4 Tackles, Sack, TFL and a QB Hit. - Another productive game by Quincy Williams as he generated 7 Tackles, Sack, TFL and a QB Hit. He still shows some rawness in his game but I love his speed and violent tackling. With further refinement he should be a very nice piece going into the future. - Bryce Hall started off shaky as he gave up a 40 yard TD. But Hall bounced back and displayed the excellent skills he's shown most of the season after that as he had 3 Tackles, TFL, and a Pass Defensed. - Solid coverage game by Javelin Guidry as he's been elevated to an outside CB since Brandin Echols went down with an injury. Offense - Best run performance of the year by the OLine as they produced 157 yards on 34 rushes. And I don't think its a coincidence that this has happened with Greg Van- Roten being replaced by Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff. Duvernay-Tardiff has been an upgrade as he's been able to get to the second level in the run game and anchor the interior pocket better than Van-Roten. - With excellent run blocking up front all three RB's were able to be productive: * Tevin Coleman with 16 Rushes for 67 Yards * Ty Johnson with 6 Rushes for 42 Yards * Austin Walter with 9 Rushes for 38 Yards and a TD The fact that Walter was active is such an indictment on LaMical Perine. Walter was on the practice squad but Perine couldn't beat him out to be on the active roster. QB - Zach Wilson was able to lead the team to a win but he wasn't impressive in any sense. He was 14/24 for 145 yards with a rushing TD and an awful INT. Over the past 4 games we've seen Mike White, Josh Johnson and Joe Flacco run the offense efficiently. Unfortunately we didn't see that same efficiency with Wilson running the show. Wilson's timing, accuracy and velocity on throws to his receivers was off, this has to improve. The best part of Wilson's performance was after the game as he acknowledged his poor game and wasn't "giddy" with the win. I hope this was a "rust game" and he'll be better next week because I wasn't happy. Draft Thought - I LOVED the performance of Aidan Hutchinson (3 sacks) yesterday against Ohio St. As prolific as Ohio St. offense was the only way Michigan was going to win was disrupting the QB. And Hutchinson stepped up to the challenge, I would love to see him on the opposite side of Carl Lawson next year.

  4. I'm trying hard to come up with reasons why we can say at least say: Zach seems effective - so here are some of my reasons: 1) We won the game - gotta give me that one 2) Zach had a couple nice 20 yard passes to Moore - hopefully the start of something big 3) Zach only turned the ball over once - I will take once in a game for sure! 4) Zach didn't try to do too much - he pretty much stayed within the offense 5) Zach had a nice run for a TD - I don't see Flacco making that play. Good decision by Zach 6) Zach threw for 145 yards and zero TD's - well its a team effort 7) Zach handed the ball off a lot and the Jets had a decent ground game - Zach played some game manager Zach wasn't great and was barely adequate yet we came back from being down 14-3 on the road against a bad team but a team that just beat a playoff contender so somehow Zach is an effective QB at this point as he has been at times in all games but two. Can't wait till he is actually good and I think he will be - its just gonna take some time.

  5. Zach Wilson’s timing was off, he was inaccurate and was down by 11 after going 1 for 6 with an interception. But from that point on he made good decisions and despite clearly not having his best stuff (compare to Tennessee) he managed the game and played well enough to win. It’s tough for a QB to win an NFL game with less than his best stuff. Today, Wilson learned he can do that. It is a valuable lesson for a rookie QB.

  6. I come from the Reddit boards. I am a Jets fan who still believes Zach Wilson will be the Jets long term answer at QB. The Reddit boards were too negative about this outlook so I came here. Will Zach Wilson believers be treated fairly here?

  7. Nice post. Nice thread. May I ask nicely for people to not crap on this one like every other thread on this board? Plenty of threads to repeat “ Zach sucks” on this board. Let’s try and not in this one. Thanks In advance for your cooperation in this matter.

  8. Why are we being so friggin impatient with Zach? Do you really feel he has no shot to get acclimated to the pro game? When he was drafted it was known that it took him time to adjust at every level he has played. However when he adjusted he was number two pick worthy... He's got skills, arm strength, mobility, improvisational ability, moxie...He's kinda skinny, I hope that injuries don't become a thing...if so then it's a bust... the game is way fast for him now, but this is what experience is about... especially in the same way he had to grow in college, he will have to master the pro game, he's a game smart dude with winning play instincts, he is green right now, deal with it... the weopanz are good enough for plays to happen, I think we will see improvement... He's forcing passes, throwing too hard, trying to do do much...it was smart of Lafleur to do runs, nothing wrong with running the ball the way we did...He will emerge maybe not today, but which QB outside of Mac and Herbert have already... I know we have PSTD over Darnold, I agree, but honestly he seemed super nice, but low football IQ, only with a team like N England could Sam seem competent... When Zach gets his sh*te together, he will be an exciting QB, he's the same Zach we loved when he was being compared to maholmes and buddying it up with Aaron Rogers... Even the media fell in love with him…..The rookie class of Trevor Lawrence, Fields, etc, they are learning nobody but Mac is doing great... The line is getting better, and if our LT comes back he will have just enuff time for him to make decisions... Did you see his improv play in the Tennessee game, when he was rookie of the week... I mean yeah he's gotta lotta ways to go, but I still think he has it, and if he doesn't we will know soon enough... He is GREEN, and players who are green and have talent are raw, he's not polished but not hopeless at least give him til the middle of next year to see if he is catching on...

  14. This isn't getting enough attention. When the offense was crap (take a look at those Week 2 and Week 3 final scores again) LaFleur really took it from the fans and the forum was full of negative threads. Now that things have turned quite a bit, that he has gotten multiple different backup QBs to play above their capabilities, that the rushing attack is starting to come to form.... there's a bit of a, "well, it's about time" reaction to him. What if... we actually have an excellent, young OC? Wouldn't that be something?

  15. Wilson’s biggest problem is that Mike White and Josh Johnson came in and showed the world (and his own locker room) that the big issue strangling the Jets is Zach Wilson.
    13 points
  16. It was a hell of a play and puts him 1 shy of tying his career high of 7. I think I said we'd see him get 10-12 this season. That's within reach. A force on the interior.

  19. I definitely believe it’s roughly 100% mental. They alluded to it during the broadcast talking about John Beck’s role with the team being largely to help Zach clear his head. There’s no doubt that he’s pressing. You see these bone-headed plays in the same game where he makes a great run for the TD, and converts two fourth downs and a two-point conversion. Those plays were clutch. It’s about relaxing and doing the routine things. Have to hope that will come as he gets more experience, settles in, has some success and gets more confident.

  21. OMG they missed on a 4th round running back last year and drafted their starting running back in the 4th round this year. 50% in the 4th round, sign me up for that.

  22. I think a lot of you here need to realize that the people “bringing down the board” are just as big Jets fans as the homers. A win like yesterday is a double edged sword for a lot of us. Sure we want the win, but in a season all about the #2 pick Wilson’s performance couldn’t have been more disappointing. Personally, I’m past the point of thinking draft position, I’m hoping to see as many wins as possible and seeing the young guys develop. I’m coming around on this years draft, but I’m sorry, I think we missed badly with Wilson. I’ll leave it at that, enough people have chimed in already. For me, the best case scenario is we finish with 5-6 wins, Wilson plays game manager like yesterday and doesn’t completely blow up the offense. If we see steady improvement on the rest of the team and finish the year with an 8-10 player core to build around, that would be great. Next year? I know Wilson will be back, but hopefully we bring in viable competition for him. We also need to have another great draft, stay healthy, and decide on this kid by mid ‘22. If the Jets go into ‘23 doing the “let’s hope the light comes on Darnold dance” again, we’re going nowhere. To sum this up, I think we can be hopeful with this teams future and still feel Wilson isn’t going to be the answer. If he is, great, if not we can still put together a solid roster in ‘22.

  23. I think a lot is mental. There is a reason he’s usually way better in 2nd half. He comes out a nervous wreck to start the game and hasn’t figured out yet how to control that.

  24. And...that saved Cousins money went towards these Jets Wall-of-Famers. Take your pick which ones wouldn't have been signed had Cousins agreed to go to the highest bidder, but it matters not. Josh McCown (1 yr $10MM) Trumaine Johnson (2 yrs $34MM) Terrelle Pryor (1 yr $5MM) Le'Veon Bell (2 yr $28MM) CJ Mosley (3 yrs $51MM) Sam Darnold (3 yrs $26MM) And...using the #6 overall pick plus three 2nd rounders for the privilege of drafting Sam Darnold. And...that has then led to using the #2 overall pick to draft Wilson, for better or worse eventually (hopefully it changes, but so far it's been mostly the latter). And...16 wins vs 43 losses (and 3 different head coaches) over the 3.5 football seasons since then. And...yay!!

  27. We've seen Belichick draft quite a few QB's over the years and basically none of them were good outside of Brady. Not even Garoppolo is really any good. But now, all of a sudden, Mac Jones performs well as a rookie and Belichick is getting all the credit for being some QB whisperer? C'mon now. Mac Jones is pretty good, and he'd be pretty good here too had the Jets drafted him. Eventually we'll have to deal with that as fans.

  29. There was a play in the game where I believe it was 3rd down, Zach rolled out of the pocket and had either 50/50 chance down the field or a "check down" to the TE who was open but about 4 yards behind the 1st down marker. Zach made the seemingly right decision to hit the TE (forget who it was) and the TE turned up the field and barreled through a tackle to get the 1st. I'm hopeful that positive result gets subconsciously filed away in Zach's head so that he continues to be comfortable and even automatic with those decisions. It was okay to throw the ball short of the sticks. It was okay to forgo a longer pass attempt with both higher reward but higher risk potential. It was okay to trust that your guy could potentially make a play after the catch. I know that @Uncle Nicco is completely absolving Zach of wrongdoing on the INT but I'll meet him halfway here. It wasn't a great decision and the ball shouldn't have been tossed, but it was also very unlucky and bad timing that Ty Johnson was turning to block as Zach made it look like he was running. If THAT was the worst play of the day for Zach (it was) then his overall performance wasn't necessarily bad, it was just underwhelming. My biggest concern with Zach (and I didn't hear anybody talk about this in the Draft process) is that he seems to be having accuracy issues, particularly on short throws. He's also out of "speed sync" with some of his passes, throwing harder than he should be on check downs and 5 yard passes. I'm hoping this gets better with more game reps. If the Jets aren't getting enough practice reps at "game speed" during the week then maybe Zach has too much adrenaline going on gameday and is simply firing balls too hard. I just don't know.

  30. 6 games into the kids career after taking him #2 overall and you want to dump him… LOL Again, why do Jets fans ever talk about drafting a QB? Unless we end up with one of those Justin Herbert’s that tears the league a new assh0le from the get-go, they’ll just want to dump him a few games into his rookie season anyway. Jets fans deserve the Jimmy Garoppolo/Garner Minshew show headed down the pike.

  33. The debate will always be around whether he was worth the #3 overall pick. It's hard to live up to that for anybody, let alone a DT. But there is zero doubt that he's the best defender on the team and hovering around Pro Bowl consideration. He plays hard, seems like a good dude, and is continuing to improve. Can't ask for anything more at this point even if we wish he was at Aaron Donald's level. Two things could really help him make a jump in the next year or two - 1. A true Edge rusher that also warrants double teams from the opposing OLine (that was a bit of the hope with signing Carl Lawson) and 2. A better secondary that can cover well enough to give guys like Q and the DLine that one extra second to get to the QB. Those are the kinds of things that can take a DT from 9-10 sack guy to a 14-15 sack guy.

  35. Since it’s okay to give up on Wilson after 5 3/4 games I now decree that Mike White can be tossed aside too. After all: Rookie Zach through 5 3/4 games: 5 total TDs, 10INTs Veteran Mike White through 4 games: 5TDs 8INTs. What we SHOULD do is start Joe Flacco baybeeeee.

  38. JFM...dude has been getting killed for lack of production but it hasn't been due to lack of effort. High motor shows up on film every week and it was only a matter of time before he had himself another big game. Yes, the run blocking looked better than it has at any point this season. Guidry improving on the outside. Wilson played a lot of bad football but made some clutch throws along the way. Was worried they may not find the EZ after the first couple of drives. Quincy Williams. Not a perfect player but nobody else on this roster comes close to hitting the way he does. At the very worst he's going to be key contributor moving forward but has the tools to be much more than that.

  42. Good post. A few other notes. For the first time since I can remember we have a coach who can make in-game adjustments to completely shut down the Texans offense in the second half. The defense has come good parts and is missing a dawg or two. Totally agree that if we get Hutchinson to go along with Carl Lawson this defense could be really good. I thought LeFleur made some necessary adjustments as well. On the first few possessions Zach was dropping back and got creamed. LeFleur then called quick throws which seemed to settle Zach down a bit. He wasn't very good but it's his first game back after four weeks. The way Brandon Cooks was ignored for most of the game I could have sworn Adam Gaze was calling their plays.
