Did he overpay for his ticket? Did he try to move up from Row 8 to Row 2 in a trade up?23 points

I swear, if you didn't look at him and say, "Make it happen!" you should just ban yourself from the site.17 points

No The guy has barely played over the last two years and by all accounts was bitching and moaning while playing with a HOF QB and a borderline HOF coach on a consistent playoff contender. It baffles me why some are opposed to Cooper but want to trade for a dude like this.12 points

Trey Smith played well, had the benefit of being on a line with Joe Thuney, the $6,493,064,396,000 Free Agent and... oh yeah, he plays in front of the uber-mobile, side arm throwing, Super Bowl winning QB Patrick Mahomes. AVT had less. Did more. AVT is also the reason that the guys on either side of him suddenly look like good players the Jets want to keep/extend. That's not a coincidence. But hey, awards are awards and KC is in the AFC Championship Game so there ya go.8 points

How many rookies do we really want starting in 2022? If wins and losses aren't the priority then by all means continue the slow burn rebuild. I don't think that's the reality of the situation though. If the Jets aren't winning games in 2022 the media & fans will turn up the heat on Saleh & JD really quickly. While that shouldn't matter, it does. Woody Johnson won't sit idly by as the media is roasting JD & Saleh after another 5 win team building season. They need to be in the wild card hunt in December in 2022. Woody won't put out a playoff mandate because he's a pussbag but he will melt to the pressure of the media & fans.8 points

This is completely off topic, but Darrell just replaced the starter in my truck, at 8 degrees, while snowing, this morning. I'm having well deserved much-too-early beers. Holy sh*t what a pain in my balls.7 points

I remember when he was considered one of our worst GM’s. Actually only had a few losing seasons when he was here. We followed him up with Idzik, Maccagnan and Douglas. Oof.7 points

For all his flaws as a QB Sanchez was humble and it seems his teammates liked and pulled for him to get better. Don’t recall hearing of any dirty laundry being aired about him or that players were wasting their careers with Sanchez as QB7 points

not something we dont know already. just feels good to see the Dolphins made a mistake.7 points

Does anyone believe in building defense first anymore? I don’t think so. I’d still look to build a somewhat balanced team that leaned towards the offense. You need to be able to score points, but you also need to be able to disrupt the other team’s QB. The #1 objective of the defense should be to create turnovers to give your offense more chances. So I want pass rushers, and I’m going to coach the whole defense to try and strip the ball on every play. Pass rushers cost money and high draft picks, but they’re worth it.7 points

Would you rather have: 1. excellent offense & mediocre defense 2. avg offense & avg defense 3. excellent defense & mediocre offense For the stats below, I’ll define average as the midpoint or median of 32 teams, excellent as the 75th percentile and mediocre as the 25th percentile. So we strip out the margins on the distribution curve. Tough with the salary cap to be excellent in both, which would be the optimal scenario. Jets are also so from this that it’s not worth charting. 2021 (1, 2, 3 match above) 1. 27.0 points for to 25.5 points against 2. 23.0 to 22.0 3. 19.1 to 21.4 * The biggest positive point differential is to have an excellent offense and mediocre defense. A mediocre offense scores less points than an excellent defense gives up 2020: 1. 28.7 to 27.9 2. 24.7 to 23.9 3. 20.9 to 22.2 2019 1. 25.4 to 26.2 2. 22.6 to 22.6 3. 19.1 to 19.4 2018 1. 26.8 to 26.4 2. 23.0 to 22.5 3. 20.2 to 20.6 2017 1. 25.4 to 23.9 2. 21.2 to 22.0 3. 18.4 to 19.7 What the hell does this mean? - In all 5 years, a mediocre offense does not score enough points to win even if you have an excellent defense. - So there is an advantage to invest in Offense over Defense when looking to achieve a competitive advantage. - However, the avg offense with an avg defense does just as well in point differential as an excellent offense with a mediocre defense. - The slant to offense re-emerges when you look at dominant offense versus dominant defense, which I did not list here. Assume dominant is top 3 teams, there is more upside to an offense and only so much a defense can cut points. You see this in the comparison with the midpoint. A dominant offense might score 7 points per game over an avg one while a dominant defense only shaves 4 points off an avg one. Strategically this tells me the best teams are the ones with dominant offenses and a good enough defense. If the Jets think there’s a chance getting there, they might invest their go forward capital to get there. If they think that is not realistic, then it seems fairly neutral to invest in offense or defense to achieve either 1 or 2 above.6 points

Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas aren't going anywhere. The team is going to show progress next year and there won't be a discussion of replacing either.6 points

Jury is still out and I may completely eat crow on this take but I feel much better about our coaching staff in place than most of the options available this go around. I mean the top candidates seem to be Dan Quinn a retread who yes, got to a super bowl but was really bad in the last few years in ATL. Brian Flores - another retread who while many believe got a raw deal in Miami, certainly has some red flags based on what's come out of Miami. And Brian Daboll, someone we interviewed last year and didn't even make it to the second rd. the biggest unknown and yes, gets a ton of credit for the Buffalo offense but is it him or Josh Allen? Again, any of these guys could end up being great but based on resume I feel better about our coaching staff right now.6 points

To those who are about to long for the "glory days" of Mike Tannenbaum in this thread: Recall that he handed Mark Sanchez an expensive contract extension prior to the 2012 season, days after Tannenbaum acknowledged that Sanchez "didn't play well" in 2011.6 points

Yeah the serial predator thing. The willingness to look the other way is not limited to him alone. Bobby Kotick encourages a hostile workplace, seriously sexually harasses a female employee then threatens to kill her, while at the same time not firing the serial sexual abusers at Blizzard but promoting them and moving and his punishment is a $360 million golden parachute. Any guy on this board even remotely approaches a tenth of their behavior and they are likely to go to jail.6 points

Agree. Invest in offensive weapons and OLine and let Saleh scheme to an average defense.6 points

Michael Vick paid his debt to society. He lost a $130 million contract, went into significant debt and was bankrupted, and went to prison. He has become an animal rights advocate. There comes a point in time when people earn and deserve a second chance and Vick fits that category IMO. Watson hasn't paid any debts at all. He is still just accused and has not admitted anything. So far, he has lost one season of football, but was still paid.5 points

Don’t recall Smith saying that but it’s pretty funny I get the butt fumble and that pick six against Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship game are what he is most remembered for but not for nothing Sanchez did play rather well in the playoffs beating Rivers , Brady and Manning is no small feat and shouldn’t be overlooked as that was the best two seasons we as a fan base have had in what 15 years with the exception of one year of Fitzpatrick which was an outlier. I mean dam 5 fuching picks in a game that determines if you get into the playoffs. Still can’t get over that one SMFH5 points

Both are insane athletes, and Penning has a nastiness to him that OL enthusiasts like Douglas love. I think Penning is more refined and could legitimately wind up being OT3 in the class, whereas Raimann won't be for everyone but certain teams are going to fall in love with him. He's a perfect fit for our line scheme. He's going to get a lot of Garett Bolles comparisons, but there are many who believe he's more talented than Bolles was coming out.5 points
