  1. As some of you know, my brother Steven is Sack Exchange on Twitter and has a space called The Jet Lounge. They're holding an event in a couple of weeks with Jeremy Ruckert. He's also become close to Tony Richardson who will come down as well. Should be fun! And, added bonus, if any of you even wanted to hit me in the head, I'll be there too.

  4. I saw the rumors earlier and was hoping this wasn't true. Tony defined the word legend. Had the opportunity to get to know him years ago through Uncle Tony and Classic Harley. He held these amazing tailgates for us with Heineken. He was so nice, so humble and so funny. We would go to his restaurant and the absolute best was one time we were all sitting at the table. This young girl comes up and says they asked me to get your autograph. The response she got, was why? She said they told me the big guy used to be a football player. The whole table busts out laughing. She was looking at, and talking to, @De-Jet-Erate/Duane. What are the odds of being told that the big guy at the table was a football player and picking out the wrong big guy. The girl was embarassed but Tony Siragusa was so cool to her, gave his autographs and he had fun busting Duane's balls the rest of the night. Our prayers are with your family. This is rough, you were truly larger than life. Rest in peace Tony.

  13. Lmao. Every now and then, between the poop and dick jokes, I drop a duece of hard knowledge. And, I agree, if the Jets keep an extra player anywhere, I wouldn't be surprised for it to be on the DL or LB group, seeing as how much they want to rotate fresh bodies. Wouldn't surprise me to even see Wesco be casualty in order to make room. With Conklin, Uzomoah, and Ruckert, he's kinda redundant. Don't really need a 4th guy.

  15. Huff vs Martin and Mims vs Smith are the two I'm struggling with.... Can't imagine signing Martin and not having him on the 53. Any chance both make it behind Lawson and Jermaine Johnson? JFM listed as a DT? Mims and Smith are a complete toss up to me. Mims has higher upside but Smith's consistency and well-rounded abilities might be more important to the coaching staff in a guy who will be WR5 and would be seeing the field at any number of positions due to injuries to some of the top 4 WRs.

  16. I played, but I think there are some wild cards that might alter some selections. I think Mims might be more likely to be on a roster, but there is a solid chance they move him to a place where he is a better fit. LB, DT and OL will likely be highly swayed by if they sign any of the vets they have take it or leave offers out there on. They supposedly made offers to Ogunjobi, and Alexander and also had Riley Reiff for a visit. There are other vets out there that might interest as camp draws near.

  24. this is revisionist / inaccurate history the Gold standard did not work very well in fact there were boom/bust recessions every 2-5 years. There were also depressions. the boom bust cycle was thought to be baked into capitalism There were 32 recessions/panics between 1785 and the Great Depression. There were also three depressions: in 1807, 1873 and 1920. That's a major event every 4 years for those keeping track at home. the federal reserve was created in 1913 and Franklin D Roosevelt took the country off the gold standard in 1933. Nixon abandoned the last vestiges in 1971 but the country had not been on a true gold standard for decades. Why? because you can't use Keynesian tools to print more gold in times of trouble. or you can't delete the gold that's out there in times of hot velocity. the supply of money is out of the hands of the government. and that's actually bad. since the US Has been off the gold standard, recessions happen less frequently- there has been 13 recessions in about 90 years (one every 7 years) and not been another depression since 1930. had we been on the gold standard in 2008, the collapse would have certainly become another great depression (massive bank failures/auto industry failing without bailout) currencies need to be managed and it turns out tying one's entire economic system to a mineral that grubby overalls-wearers drag out of the ground is not a great model and there's actual history to prove this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_recessions_in_the_United_States and, just for fun, if we imagine a world where the US is brought back to the gold standard, there would be trillions of dollars that would have be deleted/destroyed. Because there isn't enough gold to support the current economy. It would be a massive destruction of wealth.

  27. This might be the FIRST serious football related post I've seen from you .... and I LIKE it. Nice analysis. 4. Both Huff & Martin. The latter was just signed $6M+ guaranteed as someone else mentioned above and Huff might be ready to take the next step and turn a high win rate into actual sacks. I see the Jets keeping an extra DL. In pass rushing situations, JFM shifts inside and the Jets keep 5 Ends: Lawson + Johnson as starters. Huff, Martin, and Clemons all in the rotation.

  28. There were reports that they gave Ogunjobi and Alexander take it or leave it offers with a drop dead date - presumably before camp some time. Obviously they are not particularly lucrative offers, so the players are presumably looking for more. I think Ogunjobi just signed with the Steelers the last couple of days to replace Tuitt. The Jets had Reiff in a couple of weeks ago. I have not seen anything more recent on Alexander or Reiff.

  29. 1. Wesco, only because Cager is switching positions, and the TE room is full. I'd guess, if Wesco makes it, does so in the FB role. 2. Thomas, because I haven't heard of either of them, and there's probably more open competition at the LB spot than RB. Likely, neither do. 3. Hardee. MUCH more likely. Dude is our ST captain, IIRC. Feeney hopefully shouldn't even make the squad. 4. Huff. Been around for awhile now and has shown some promise. Personally excited for him as a rotational piece. Don't remember much from Martin. 5. Had a hard time with this one, and wouldn't be surprised to see it go either way, or them both make it, but, for the purposes of the poll, I ultimately landed on Mims. I think if it comes down to either him or Smith, all Mims has to do is show the staff he knows the playbook and can operate in this offense. Dude has so much more upside, despite Smith's contribution to STs. 6. Marshall. Freak athlete, they like to rotate on the DL, and Edoga is backup quality at best (and, like Feeney, is hopefully upgraded this summer).

  30. Very surprised so many people voted for Wesco. While I understand the addition of 3 new TEs. With Ruckert's ability to block and Bawden being the only true FB on the roster, Wesco is kind of obsolete. At least Cager can prove himself to be a unique receiver with his size if the Jets decide to carry 6 and Smith or Mims does not look good as camp/preseason rolls along. Just my take.

  31. Seems like a strange theory to me. You think Yeboah gives you more flexibility than Smith? I think Smith played QB, RB and WR in college. He had 900 yards rushing @ 6.6 ypc and 9 TDs playing an ACC schedule, though I am not sure how many carries came as QB. Yeboah is basically TE only and not a good blocking one at that. Cager is a big possession receiver with teeny tiny hands. His speed is questionable and he is switching to TE because he failed at WR. For some reason you are pigeon-holing Smith as a slot despite the fact that he has played outside WR here for 3 seasons. I am also not sure why you are acting like he is a smurf. He is bigger than Garrett Wilson. They are all developmental prospects, but Smith stuck over both last season with the same coaching staff and over Cager in 2020. I honestly think it will be more likely that he is beat out by Calvin Jackson or Irvin Charles. Guys with more cheap years left in them that are more likely to be bigger contributors on specials.

  34. Agreed. Of course it is. If Becton showed up to camp at a weight the Jets were happy with, they would be praising him. Saleh praised Zach Wilson and even Denzel Mims for the shape they were in. Why would he not do the same with Becton? Especially when his weight has been a running storyline for the Jets?

  38. He's improving. I'm feeling much better, thats true. I was a JD believer early on. My fire joe douglas thread was a goof to begin with, but the guy has had some misses. So yes, as of this offseason, I am much happier with Joe Douglas. Can't remember a Jets draft where I approved of so many of the picks. Liked the Tomlinson addition a great deal. Best G we could've got imo. He needs a T and a LB and I think he can start figuring out next year.

  39. As the board's #1 Jeff Smith fan... Is it really going to be more of an uphill battle? He is far from a lock, but I don't think it will be any harder than last year. Who are the locks this year? Who were the locks last year? They added Garrett Wilson, but they let Crowder and Cole walk. Mims is also not a sure thing this year, but he was last year. I would flip that with Berrios who won't be on the bubble since he got a contract. IMO the main thing working against Smith is that his contract will be up and his cheap easily controlled years are ending. Still, if he is good and plays specials well, he should stick because he is still cheap and would count towards a comp pick if he walks and gets even a moderate contract elsewhere next year. FWIW, my liking Smith came primarily from his TD to catch ratio and his athletic numbers. Figured that was a good development prospect for a guy who was still a QB into college and I think played some RB. I was countered by those who said he had feet for hands. It still can't be definitively determined who was right, but he has certainly been worth the investment. I would add that he was a Maccagnan pickup for Gase. I figured he would have a tough time impressing the new staff, but he never seemed in any danger.

  40. FWIW we are ALL rooting for Becton to get in shape and dominate the NFL no one is actively rooting for the guy to fail that's ridiculous. That being said there are plenty of reasons to doubt his dedication and work ethic and the possible problems his weight may cause. I'm not sure the injury he sustained last year was only from one incident (the rolling over his back side by another player) . Becton had numerous issues going on with his knee one was a Dislocated Knee Cap and the other a strained MCL both of these were obviously from getting rolled on since you can't play with either but the removal of damaged cartilage from his knee usually comes from wear and tear over time especially when its described as "numerous loose bodies of cartilage" If you are shredding cartilage that means high impact, common sense tells you being grossly overweight is not helping matters. There is no doubt Becton is a big guy but there is no reason whatsoever why he could not get down to a playing weight between 340-350 which will still give him plenty of weight to push people around at will while making him quicker to deal with speed rushers and take pressure off his damaged knee . Cartilage does not grow back its not a good long term thing to keep putting pressure with being overweight there is no way in hell Doctors and trainers are not relaying this information to Becton and when a trainer says he's not over 400 pounds that's scary because as far as we know the most he weighed playing the game was in the 370 range so why the 400 reference ?? I'm hoping all the guessing about his weight is wrong but its pretty telling when no one is willing to say what he weighs. If he was 350 everyone involved would be praising him and willing to divulge such information, but they are not, which should help everyone read between the lines. I'm pulling for him but we wont know anything about him or whether he can perform until training camp starts, that's when the real info comes out lets hope its good news and Becton becomes the road grader we need at RT to pave the way for our running game.
