Face it, we've lost our ability to appraise real NFL talent because we have been putrid for so long: 1) "Streveler should make the team": no, he has no arm, and can't throw a simple 10 yd out; He is a wildcat gimmick for an NFL offense but there are better athletes who can fill that role across the league. And he doesn't play specials. He is a nice August story, that's it. 2) "Breece Hall sucks": no, he was running behind a garbage line playing the Falcons starters. You can't get water from a stone. 3) "Tanzel Smart can't be on the practice squad this year; he'll be snapped up." Why not? He is undersized, and although I agree he provides depth, I don't think he screams "must-have". 4) "Mims is being under-utilized": no, he's a bust. It's not Wilson's fault he can't learn the playbook or can't separate in this offense. He is a cut or a trade for a low-round pick... not sure anyone would invest a 7th in him right now. Time for the Jets to move on. It's like we've been in prison for so long, we've lost our sense of perspective. Preseason is a wash; preparedness is a concern; I'd worry about conditioning of the team early in the season. But the guys who stand-out are the ones who are actually developing and have measurables to be successful against starters in the league: Sherwood, Clemons, Cager. Guys like Cager get stashed on the PS because if you can solve the puzzle, you might actually have something. Same for guys like Irv Charles or Tony Adams. Otherwise the guys are depth for injuries. That's why Tanzel Smart will likely end up there again. Guys like Perine, Elijah Riley and Will Parks may be back and forth on the roster as credible role players, particularly on specials. Zonovan Knight will likely be on the practice squad as well. We will also likely pick up a couple of prospects on the waiver wire. Vets that need to worry include Vinny Curry (good as gone), Nathan Shepherd, Lamarcus Joyner, Ashtyn Davis, Bryce Hall. Solomon Thomas should be a cut, but we have no depth. For those arguing for Smart, he makes this team only if they cut a guy like Solomon Thomas, who has shown nothing. Perine may be a cut, but I think he ends up on the PS if so, only because he knows the offense. But we are still vastly deficient for depth on the interior defensive line, offensive line, and safety. And all that really matters this year is whether Zach develops; or we are back at square one next year.20 points

Unless my eyes are lying to me Stevelerman has earned himself a job on this Jet team and Mike White is a goner. Streveler aint playing around - he plays fast and hard! Who do you want coming in mid game when our starter has diarrhea and we need an infusion of energy? Mike willow tree White or Superman or I mean Stevelerman?20 points

Let’s see what the season brings, shall we? If Saleh and/or Zach don’t look the part, I’m not throwing the baby out with the bath water. I’d be happy to bring in Payton if he’s willing to work with JD. I really don’t give a **** about the guy’s first draft during the pandemic, I like the team building I’ve seen the last couple years.14 points

1. Trevon Wesco. 2 bad drive killing penalties tonight. Almost always associated with bad plays. Has he made any good ones since he’s been here? 2. Jeff Smith. Will drop easy passes and doesn’t catch hard ones 3. Nathan Shepherd. Just watched him get blown off the ball on the goal line. Second week in a row 4. If Bryce Hall continues to play like he has tonight, he might be a surprise cut. I’ll give him a one time pass but man has he been bad tonight. Jets have some quality depth, something to monitor 5. Not a player, but why should we have any confidence in our D Coordinator?13 points

1) Buy a jersey of Chris Streveler 2) Get a tattoo of Chris Streveler 3) Get my vasectomy reversed, have another kid, and name him STREV LOTS to do this week.12 points

This board got awfully quiet in the second half. What a bunch of hypocrites many of you are. For 2 hours, the Jets were terrible, Saleh was terrible, JD was terrible, despite who was on the field. You all ignored that 17 of 22 starters sat early and the Falcons built their lead by playing their starters against the Jets bench. Then when the script flipped in the 2nd half, crickets except for the gratuitous Wilson bashing. So wins only matter if the Jets lose. Saleh only stinks if the Jets are losing. Ulbrecht stinks until the Jets defense pitches a shutout in the 2nd half. Got it. It's no fun for many of you unless the Jets are bad. You are all a bunch of Greens/Benignos. Rant and rave and critique until things turn good and then disappear.12 points

Jets have to cut 5 players today to get from 85 to 80. Here is a list of 12 players who seem like probable cuts, please pick 5 from the above list. They could very well cut someone other than those on the list of course, but for the sake of argument, let's pick 5 of these 12 Please note: Anyone suggesting we cut Mike White, Denzel Mims, or Bryce Hall today will be placed on Ignore for 4 weeks11 points

I read where they didn’t even plan on playing Streveler until Zach got hurt, but once they saw him against Philadelphia they decided to ramp up his work in practice. If they’re considering replacing White with him, they should have him go in the next game before White and let White handle the cleanup duty against the scrubs and then take a look at how they both fare. That’s what I’d do, but I never fell for White being good in the first place.11 points

I watched it a few times and disagree. If the second man hadn't come in, I think Mims pulls that in easily. He never saw the second man and took some contact on that play. It was a very low percentage catch with two defenders in his pockets that maybe happens once in a dozen tries for even the best WRs. As for the 'scared of contact' thing...I don't see that either. Here's a catch from practice. Watch it in slow motion. This looks like a textbook 'grab it out of the air and pull it in' catch with a defender right there. IMO the only thing hurting Mims right now is the penalties/lapses. If he cleans that up, he is easily ahead of Smith and every other guy outside the starting four. Somehow the narrative that he 'sucks' can't die here, but it should.11 points

I don’t start many threads so please tolerate me on this one. in game experience has deteriorated to a point of the jets come across as a minor league org. if there is an opponent penalty, they now post a video of a garbage truck backing up and the beeping sound to go with it. If that is not bad enough you get a small lyric ( one was walk this way) to go with it sorry but just stupid. t shirt gun - just please stop. joe Nolan - I am willing to donate for vocal cord removal. flight crew - bring them back. Nothing wrong with admiring a pretty girl while mike white is generating minus yards.10 points

What else is there to discuss at this point? They're the ones that are playing.10 points

Mims goes 3-4. The hate crew doubles down. Should be a hoot next week. FWIW Stephen Hill never was 1x the player Mims was in college. So are you basing this on Hill's two scintillating seasons as a Jets backup? Mims hasn't shown any more in his first two seasons, but the mere fact that he's likely to get a third season on his resume already launches him well past Hill.10 points

The Good Defense- Marshall, Clemons, Sherwood- ALL. OVER. THE FIELD. *Honorable mention- B.Anae: Gotta give him credit. The guy played well, made a big hustle play with a scoop and score. Put pressure on the QB a few times he was in. Good showing for him. Offense- Streveler, Cager, Mims- Streveler is a revelation and he targeted Mims, Cager and Black a lot- all three guys came through and made plays for him. He also made some nice plays with his legs. *Honorable mention- Black: Made some nice catches and was consistent. The Bad Defense- A.Davis, Phillips, Wildgoose: these guys made no plays, couldn't cover, couldn't do anything against the run, missed assignments. All 3 might get cut. *Honorable mention- Smart: Bad penalty and he was overshadowed by Marshall who played great and is essentially fighting for the same roster spot. Offense- Hall, Smith, Wesco- Hall was disappointing for all the hype. Smith was invisible considering he's fighting for a roster spot. Wesco was a mess. I def. think Hall will be a good player but Wesco and Smith are on the bubble. *Honorable mention- M.White: The way he played today, I'm keeping Streveler over White as the 3rd QB. The Ugly Who else? Bryce Hall. He was toasted all night long. He would have been pulled if this was a regular season game. I doubt he gets cut but this was a very bad game for him. He looked awful. *Honorable mention- Joyner: Only one really bad play but boy was it ugly. For a vet like that to get fooled in preseason must have been embarrassing.9 points

That bum should be at the corner at 5:30AM, in the cold morning dew as he breathes and can see his own breath. Rubbing his little hands together to get some warmth going as he looks down at his big duffel with "DAVIS" stenciled on the side as the Grey Hound's brakes squeak to a halt. One way ticket back to Whereverthefuqhecamefrom, USA. He suck.9 points

I would rather watch Zach Wilson with 1 leg on the field than Mike White dink and dunk for 30 yard drives all night.9 points

Man this team ALWAYS looks flat and out matched with scheme. Both fall on coaching. Yea It’s only preseason but my goodness after watching it all last year and again in 2 preseason games I’m officially spooked by Saleh. Anyone feeling in their gut not good about Saleh. I got Bowles 2.0 in my gut.8 points

In all seriousness, why do we care as much (collectively) as we seem to over Mike White or Chris Streveler? These are players who, outside serious and multiple injuries, will never see the field. If they do see the field, they're generally not going to play well (we could name a dozen Jets #2/#3's who sucked when they got their chance). Even if they do play well (White v. Bengals), they'll never maintain it *white vs. Buffalo) and no one, including OUR GM and OUR Head Coach is going to stick with them over a Zach Wilson (potential!) or a Joe Flacco (Veteran). So why? Why are hundreds of thousands of words written about longshot, JAG-gy third and fourth string QB's? Does anyone really think they're gonna get a "fair chance", or if they do that they're going to be Kurt Warner? What is it that drives you to post about these guys, rather than just ignore them as the bottom-of-roster camp arms they generally are? What is is about them to earns the kind of excitement and dedication some show to these guys? I am honestly curious what your motivations are (apart form generic fandom, of course).8 points

In all seriousness there are things that matter and things that dont. White looking like a 3rd stringer- whatever. Poor tackling, Bryce Hall getting cooked, lining up in the neutral zone- this matters. This doesnt just stop because we go from the preseason to regular season. The nothing matters thing is a joke, but when people here harp on light practices etc- you then see these types of issues come up in the game. It's on Saleh honestly.8 points
