More than likely wouldn't any breakout campaign from Wilson save Saleh's job?

Anyway, this game is massive for the entire organization - we get molly whopped by a depleted Steelers team then JD better start scouting quarterbacks and next HC's.

Probably unless the defense continues to be so bad

It's called Sean Payton.  But sadly, he'd never work for this organization unless he got paid what Woody would never pay.

I think it’s more about having control over personnel decisions.  It still would take a lot of money to get him but there is young talent on the team and if ZW takes a step forward I think it will be more enticing for Payton but he would require having more control

I read somewhere yesterday either here or FB or Reddit,
    Saleh is like Obama
He says all the right things
    But nothing gets done

Certainly appears to be the case.  He certainly talks a good game and players like him which definitely factored into his hire but he was a good DC in San Fran.  However it seems like he has no idea what he is doing especially on defense which is suppose to be his forte

Sometimes forced baptism by fire makes a player better that would have had to wait his turn.  Mitchell is getting a LOT of experience by force this year.  Not ideal for the team but in the long run might be better.

Mitchell might be the only positive thing to come out of this OL injury mess.  He was obviously drafted as a developmental tackle but has stepped up and shown more than the top two OL in the draft

He wasnt playing much better than mcdermott these days.. tough blow tho i guess . Wouldn’t extend him next year..

fant was bad mainly because of injuries but as bad as he has been McDermott can’t stop a peewee player let alone an nfl one

  6. Agreed on all points.  I’m also very down on Saleh but I’m still hoping he comes to his senses and shows us why we were all excited for his hire.  Zach coming back is the biggest thing.  No matter what side of the fence you’re on it’s better than watching Flacco and maybe just maybe Zach does turn out yo be the answer.  Obviously the biggest thing is all the young weapons we have like Garrett Wilson and Hall with Sauce and JJ on the defensive side.  So yeah despite my criticisms I still have some optimism

With the money they've now shelled out for Duane Brown, it's hard not to think JD screwed this up by not paying Moses what he wanted.  JD has done great things replenishing the roster, but sometimes gets too cute with sticking to a price.  If he wasn't going oline in round 1, he should have made sure he resigned Moses as insurance.  Even if that cost him a couple of extra mil.

We didn’t have to go line in Rd 1.  In fact Mitchell has outplayed both Neal and Icky

It's almost like a DC's actually have to do their jobs without having guys like Nick Bosa and Fred Warner.  Weird how that works sometimes.

The sad thing is that this team does have talent especially on the defensive side.  Like you said if they actually did their jobs a tiny bit and weren’t so stubborn then things could probably turn around at least better than they are now

Now if only he could CTRL Z the JFM extension.

Yeah right now that’s been brutal.  Feels like Mo Wilkerson 2.0..  the second he got the contract he literally just showed up and out a jersey on but that’s about it.  But I forgot he stated showing up late in the first year of the contract 😂

Well he did look into it with two veteran starters. One (Reiff) signed elsewhere. The other hadn't signed yet, I'm sure over money. Because Becton couldn't last just one more week before going on IR, Brown was brought in at a higher amount than JD likely wanted for a guy who was to walk in as insurance rather than a starter.

Truth is even with Becton going on IR, followed by Brown going on in-season IR a blink of an eye later, if Fant was on the field playing as he did in '21 we wouldn't have a tackle issue right now. They literally lost 2 starting tackles in August, followed by a 3rd starting tackle before week 3 was up. With Brown - whom he wanted to sign before Becton went on IR - the Jets were 4-deep at tackle.

KC lost their 2nd OT right before the SB and that excused Pat Mahomes from posting a Joe Flacco stat line in the big game.

It sucks, but no one's 5-deep with tackles with true NFL starting ability. Hopefully Brown returns sooner rather than later.

Fair.  There is no doubt injuries have really hurt us.  On one hand Brown has been very durable but at the same time he is 38 which is old for a OL.  Yes Fant not playing well has made it worse

    Ogbuehi is a right tackle at this point.  think the signings suggest the following;

    1) Can’t be good news about Duane Brown, perhaps he’s not healing.

2). Same about Fant, who may be shut down for a bit.

3). Left tackle options are Mitchell,  (he was supposed to be a swing tackle) AVT or Remmers (but he is on PS right now).

    4) Right tackle, let Mitchell stay, Ogbuehi, or AVT.

I’d move AVT out wide and plug in Hrbig at guard.  Cannot count on McDermott.  He’s a turnstile

I wouldn’t be surprised if Brown never plays.  One more paycheck before retirement

    It is interesting.

individually you can look at players and recognize huge effort and ability.

collectivly as a team they are mediocre to poor.

not a math major but I think the sum of that is coaching.

Agreed.  This team has talent.  I know Douglas ultimately hired Saleh but he also gave him players that he should be able to win some games with or at least compete with

The O-line may be the single most poorly mismanaged position in the JD Era.

You may be right.  So far the AVT and Mitchell picks have been very solid  but that’s about it.  Obviously I’m not ready to deem the Tomlinson signing as bad since it’s only 3 games with all the injuries on the line but it’s certainly off to a rough start

  14. I don’t agree.  Look the issue with the left side of the oline completely sucks no matter who our QB is BUT it is what it is.  We added a ton of weapons for Zach.  I have confidence in the kid BUT it’s sink or swim time.  I have no idea if he is the guy or not.  We will find out this year

Not sure I would classify this as a "steal" but it's good that JD is at least taking some action here.

He has no choice.  Putting his complete faith in Becton has completely backfired.  If ZW does in fact return and he does nothing leaving McDermott on the left side(which basically means no one on the left side) that means Zach is going to have to run for his life literally every snap coming off a injury

Ummmm CB and WR was just as big of a need to be filled......

The real issue is the Tackle JD actually DID take high 2 years ago, his unwavering confidence in his availability, and the lack of finding an alternative in case he couldn’t play or played terribly........

Agreed.  Douglas put all his faith on Becton being completely healthy and it shot him in the foot.  I understand injuries happen and the Duane Brown injury made it even worse but I felt Douglas should have had a contingency plan long before Becton got hurt again

I'll give your a serious take here; YES, I think Zach can make a difference assuming he's anywhere close to the player advertised when drafted.  Which is what makes this question so challenging.  Anybody's guess is as good as mine about who he'll be this year.  I can easily jive with either side of the debate, he is what he is, or now lets see him in another year w/ weaponz but in the hypothetical scenario, he's 80% of advertised?  Then yes, he could come in and make a difference.   Which I'm sure would lead to the question how?   So let me share...

We're all frustrated with the D, myself included, hell, I've seen enough and I'm ready to clean house but that said, while there will be some bang'em, dust up, defensive games in this league, the best teams in the league dictate the game on offense.  The Jets cant do that with Joe Flacco because he's pure garbage, like just utter trash and shouldnt be playing Football anymore.  He's is currently completing 48% of his passes on 3rd down.  He's 20 for 41 on the season.  And it's not better on 1st down which is supposed to be the high percentage down, he's completing 53% of his passes.  But 3rd down is killing this offense, his in ability to feel pressure, move, not get stripped sacked, etc. is a crutch on the offense.  It's asinine how bad he is when he has to hold the all over 2.5 seconds.  He goes from 63% comp to 48% comp and it speaks to his inability to create or doing anything that requires motion.

Some other aspects of the game that are atrocious and Zach should hypothetically help; the Jets have run 10 play actions the entire season and they have run 1, RPO, which is shocking but I guess they ran it once with Flacco.   His 1st quarter stats are abysmal.  Flacco in the 1st quarter is completing, 45% of his passes for 95 yards and zero TD's.  RedZone; while Joe has actually thrown almost all of his TD's from the RedZone, he's currently completing 39% of his passes in the RZ.  These are the statistics of a completely ineffective QB.  In a league driven by offense, it's impossible to sustain any create any type of momentum when you're that crippled at QB and it definitely has a trickle down effect on the D.  They havent had a lead all season, playing from behind, if Zach can help them answer more regularly, occasionally giving the D a lead to work with, yes, I think he can technically make a difference.

    Good Fair Assessment

  18. Douglas has done some real good things but he had also made mistakes too. That’s a pretty fair assessment.  His biggest failure is the 2020 draft.  On the flip side his last two drafts have been very good.  FA has definitely been a mixed bag.  DJ Reed is turning into a great signing but Corey Davis is obviously not.  Either way Douglas has put some talent on this team there is no denying that.  The coaching has been holding this team back so far.  Yes JD made the hire and it’s obviously backfired but at the same the Saleh hire was pretty well praised by everyone.  He had a real good reputation from his 49ers days.  So yeah Douglas certainly deserves  criticism but I wouldn’t put this all at his feet
