He showed some toughness too coming back from that body slam on his throwing shoulder. Most of us thought that was a broken collarbone. Darnold didn't play great, but he showed us some flashes of how good this kid can be.

The Jets offensive line play is not good to put it lightly, but there is still hope the offensive line play improves enough to become good enough to allow Darnold time to show us what he really can do. Get our receivers healthy. Get Le'Veon Bell back. Let's see what Gase can draw up with more options to take advantage of matchups.

I'm looking forward to the 2nd quarter of the season, because the first quarter was was atrocious like preseason. We have too many new pieces on the O-Line to be able to skip preseason. Then throw in all the injuries with a team that lacks the depth due to Mike Maccagnan's gross mismanagement/negligence during free agency and the draft, and it's no surprise the Jets produced 0 wins in the first quarter of the season.

I am of the opinion that Sam undoubtedly has the talent to become a top ten passer in this league - however the window for him to get there (at least with the Jets) is rapidly closing.  I am trending to believe that if we were to end up with the #1 pick in 2021 - Lawrence would demand a trade, so JDs master plan could be all for naught.  Nevertheless, at least we could end up with a historic plethora of draft capital...what JD is able to do with it IDK.

I know that it maybe hard to believe that the Kotite Jets were better but here is some proof.......

    Compare the defense.....

    Compare the OL..... and

    Compare the WRs

    Actually fun to watch.....

Kotite was actually a decent GM and talent evaluator.   His teams also came out to start each game fired up - but they were poorly conditioned and poor executors.  His problem - as Boomer stated - the first day on the job Kotite addressed the team and said something like: I don't care what you guys do all week, just as long as you show up on Sundays - and Boomer said that is exactly what the team did, club Kotite all week and then ball until they ran out of energy on Sunday.

Actually, of all the issues - this is my biggest concern right now.

The big question.  Did JD know he was putting a losing product on the field? and was just saying the right things.

    Or

Did he think he had built a competitive roster?

I've been okay with everything going on because I've been under the assumption that JD was tearing everything down, take this big down year and will start a rebuild next year.

But man, if he thought this was an NFL caliber roster then I am truly worried.

I believe JD knew this was a crap roster coming into the season and never had any expectations of being competitive this season.

Let’s be real. Joe Douglas signed a bunch of mid-tier free agents to one year prove it deals. They haven’t worked out, but it’s not egregious enough to get him fired.

Tony Pauline is pretty locked into the Jets (first to report McCagnan outage) so when there is smoke there is fire. I’m thinking CJ wasn’t prepared for this level of ineptitude.

It would not surprise me, considering the cluelessness of CJ and the reporting structure, that Gase ran to CJ complaining that Douglas' moves have made the team worse and he (Gase) has nothing to work with.  CJ then opens his eyes and sees - 1) We signed 3 new OL and our OL has not improved much.  2) We signed two WRs, one opts out and the other has played one game and didnt show much in that one game. 3) Douglas relied on Herndon, Griffin and Wesco to fill out the TE position and all three suck. and 4) All we have to show for the draft is a potential franchise LT who fell to Douglas and nothing else.  So CJ sits back while sipping on $5,000/bottle wine while getting his mani-pedi and thinks....hmmm maybe Adam has a point.

I’d listen a a Chris Simms/Mark Sanchez show. That could be good. I would never listen to another Carton segment if my life depended on it. Wasn’t he doing a podcast that absolutely nobody subscribed to?

I'd try a Jerry Recco/Chris Simms duo.  Sanchez is not there.  Carton should change his image and would be better served trying try for a WOR or WABC gig, where he discusses politics, pop culture and some sports with a comedic twist (a poverty stricken man's version of Howard Stern).  He is and never was a true sports guy.

You still listen to that Sh*thole?  WFAN is the only thing more fu*ked up and useless in NYC than the Jets. Stop listening now.....it will add mucho brain cells and years to your life.

WFAN has gradually declined over the years - most likely due to their cheap budget.  I long for the days of Howie Rose and Bob Wischusen - they were great, even Ian Eagle wasn't bad.  JJ used to be OK but his head has grown too big and he's just annoying now.  Francesa is an obnoxious jerk, but at least he was somewhat entertaining.   Now the only hosts I can tolerate are Chris Moore, occasionally Sal Licotta and occasionally Richard Neer provides logical insight.  I would prefer Jerry Recco over Boomer and Gio every day of the week.  Bart Scott made Maggie and Carlin tolerable. Maggie and Moose is a disaster.  Evan is another one whose head got too big and he is just flat out annoying now.  Beningo was a novelty, his time has been up for many years now.  Is it that hard to find people with great communication skills and a broad knowledge of sports?

Yes, because the best time to change your coaching staff is in Week 4 with 11 players on IR/PUP including the two new bigtime playmakers who have yet to see the field at the same time yet.

If this coaching staff is no good we'll find that out in Week 17.  Until then, we wait for our injured players to return and see how the staff does with all the new pieces Joe Douglas added in the offseason.  Doing so prematurely would be one of the dumbest decisions in franchise history.

    SAR I

Wow, so Breshard Perriman is a "big time playmaker"?   I hope he doesn't read this forum, because if he does, he'll demand a raise and an extension, as all this time Breshard assumed he was a bust who had a few good performances in a pass happy offense last year.

I really want Trevor Lawrence. I've seen enough of Sam Darnold.

Draft Trevor and use our picks and FA $ to build around him.

Sam Darnold is worse than Sanchez ever was.

Give Sam the OL Sanchez had in his first two years, the running game, and Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, Jerricho Cotchery,  Brad Smith and Dustin Keller and then tell us who is better.

Nevertheless I agree, we need to be all in for Trevor and need to hope we can trade Sam for a good draft pick.

That's just not true. He had a much better relationship with Crowder.

Yeah, but, Crowder is not a deep threat, he's a slot guy who could get open because Darnold had the threat of and the chemistry with Robby to complete a deep pass.  Its a lot easier to complete a 10yd out than a 40 yd bomb.  I feel like the biggest problem Sam is having this season is he is not on the same page as his WRs - they are reading the defenses differently

I want Harbaugh. He's a psycho and perfect for NY.  And his press conferences would be Parcellian and a breath of fresh air from the likes of Bowles and Gase.  He transformed the 49er's pretty quickly before things got sour with them. And he's probably itching to get back to the NFL.  And he's a veteran coach and still young.  And if we land Lawrence, Fileds or Lance, he'd be like an evil scientist.

    es.png

Harbaugh would be an exciting hire but I dont see him being all that inspired by a top QB prospect - he likes a very conservative ground and pound offense and wants to win with defense.  His teams were always in the bottom ten in passing and the top ten in rushing.  Do you want to relive the days of Herm Edwards - run the ball on third and long and the attitude of - the defense will win the game for us?  That philosophy sure has heck doesn't fit the NFL landscape these days.

  11. I am really buying into the theory that everything is going along to plan.  Yes firing Gase would help Darnold dramatically, but Douglas doesn't care about Darnold - 1) he didn't draft him, 2) he knows that the Jets do not have the supporting cast or coaching staff in place needed to develop him  and 3) he is treating the Jets like an expansion team, building from the ground up and he knows that a QB one year away from big money is not what the franchise needs.  So Douglas doesn't care that Darnold's career is being destroyed because Douglas has already moved on and knows; Gase is a lousy coach, the Jets have virtually no talent, we have a shot at winning the Lawrence lottery if we keep both so stay the course, go 0-16 get Lawrence, more OL pieces and another top WR, a real TE and a RB and then we move forward.

I'll say it again, you do not replace the only WR with whom Sam was comfortable with two NFL castoffs (Perriman and Doctson), sign 3rd tier OL to one year contracts, ignore the edge and CB positions in the draft and trade away your best defensive player if you have any desire to compete.  The Jets are not firing Gase this season, Darnold is being sacrificed, we are all in for Lawrence and 2021 will be year 1 under a new system.

How can any one team draft as bad as this team has over the last ten years? Virtually none of our picks have amounted to anything. Our roster is made up of over the hill or mediocre free agents who are just looking for a paycheck and practice squad scrubs. It’s actually astounding how poor our drafts have been over the years. It’s as if they tried to draft poorly.

Someone on another thread mentioned the issue that we, under the Johnson's ownership, have never had a quality NFL HC, it's always been a learning on the job type who hasn't assembled a quality coaching staff.  When was the last time this team had a real OC?  You can argue Chan Gailey - and he took the fall for a team that imploded when it should have been Bowles.  We did have Heimerdinger for a few years trying to make something out of Geno Smith without any NFL caliber WRs.   Before that you have to go all the way back to Dan Henning.   Drafting players is one thing - you can draft the greatest players on earth but if you do not coach them up - most of them will suck.

Last year, with a 3rd string QB playing the majority of 2 of the first 3 games, the Jets scored 33 pts in those 3 games. This year with their starting QB....37.

You are underestimating the impact of Robbie Anderson - a WR who stretched the field and gave defenses - at least something to worry about.  Yesterday we fielded an offense that featured one over the hill former NFL caliber RB, no NFL caliber WRs and two TEs who have lost a step - Herndon doesn't look as fast or as motivated as he did two years ago and Griffin will probably never be the same again - that was some seriously ankle surgery he had,

Rex was terrible his last 3 years here, rex was terrible in buffalo, quit with  the rex stuff, he is like sour milk.

Also, though I like Douglas, to this point he is little better than john idzik.  The guys he drafed this year have to get back on the damn field.

Plus he passed on drafting another (impact) WR to draft a skin and bones safety and a QB who may not ever be good enough to be an NFL  backup.  Cool punter tho.

Yes, because Sam is so good throwing into triple coverage.

We have 1 NFL caliber receiving threat dressed for this game and you think the #1 defense in the NFL is going to let him get open?

    SAR I

The Colts D isn't as good as the stat show through two games, but we will probably make them look that good unless Chuma miraculously transformed himself and Josh Andrews isn't as bad as every other NFL team thinks he is.  Sam will face a tremendous pass rush up the middle and from the right.  The Colts will put 8 in the box to stop the run - The Colts D will have no less than 5 tackles behind the LOS - and again the pass rush will be fierce.   However, I do think the Jets D will play better today.    Colts 24 Jets 13.
