  1. Doesn’t this compromise the game?

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/bills-dawson-knox-tests-positive-for-covid-19/amp/

The Bills were informed this morning that TE Dawson Knox has tested positive for COVID-19. Knox was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Per NFL contact tracing protocols, three other players – TE Lee Smith, TE Tommy Sweeney (currently on PUP list), and practice squad TE Nate Becker – have been defined to have been in close contact with Knox and were also placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and will miss Sunday's game.

You guys penciling in Trevor Lawrence with the number 1 pick are insane!!  When was the last time the Jets didnt win meaningless games to screw up draft position.

We will beat the Pats once and the Chargers. Sam wont be the qb to lead us to our first winless season. Things never work out that well for Jets

My sentiments (almost) exactly. There are 9 teams with 1 win and 3 with 2. Sam is good enough to win us a few games once Behcton, Mims, Perriman and Perrine are on the same page.  The Jets getting the #1 pick is far from a lock

They want to start tanking for Lawrence then trade Darnold. And honestly I think Darnold deserves better than what this team is doing so this would be beneficial to him as well.

Welp, and if Lawrence stays in school or we happen to win 1 or 2 meaningless games and not get the #1 pick? Then whats the plan?

Buy high sell low? So, we should take our first round pick that we gave away an additional 3 2nds for a handful of magic beans? Then who is going to be our QB? Now we are stuck getting the best we can and forced to take a QB in the 1st and maybe trade up (okay, that's funny as we suck so, we are already going to pick high).

No faith in Sam? I don't get it. We spent our first 2 picks on Sam with a LT and a WR.

Plus, we get another year on the cheap with Sam. You wait until the draft and see what we want to do before even think about trading him. My guess is that Sam will be fine if we loose our coaching staff.

I would instead extend Sam while he is cheap and isn't playing very well. :-)

Interesting, especially extending Sam now on the cheap.

The truth is based on what the Jets did this offseason and the lack of offensive skill players the Jets cannot say they believe in Sam Darnold.

I believe in Darnold.  Let me repeat I believe in Darnold but the Jets don’t.   They clearly don’t.....

I say trade Darnold now rather than later.  The fact is that the tape on Darnold is NOT GOING to improve for Darnold with these players absent a miracle with Mims, so trade Darnold now while his value is best.

There is a lot of truth in this

  6. Imagine being Woody and Chris Johnson? Being born with a silver spoon in your mouth and never really accomplishing anything. Buying an NFL franchise and failing miserably at it. Public embarrassment from Belicheck refusing to coach to the present. I still dont know why, they wanted to buy the Jets in the first place.  They dont seem like fans and definitely dont need the money.

Another moves that proves jd is tanking

I find this crazy though. There is a good chance we dont have a chance to draft Lawrence. Then what?  I would love to know what the Jets plan is. Are they totally tanking for Lawrence? Seems like a reckless plan. Lawrence has another year of eligibility (why would he want to come and play for the Jets?). The Jets dont even hold the #1 pick at this point and lose any tie breakers with Atlanta or the Giants. If they dont get Lawrence what is the plan?

  9. The Jets would have been destroyed by EVERYONE if they took Metcalf at #3. How difficult is this to see? DK Metcalf is in the perfect position to thrive. Great veteran QB, great HC , explosive offense in place for multiple years. What do the Jets have? The worst by far of the categories I just mentioned? If the Jets took DK Metcalf at #3, what would have been the chances he turned out more like Julio Jones or Kevin White? Please, the Monday morning Qbs on this board.......

  10. https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/sports/jets/jets-players-coaches-sent-home-friday-after-presumptive-positive-covid-test-reports/2660763/

All Jets players and staff were sent home Friday following a presumptive positive player test, according to ProFootballTalk and other reports.

The team did not immediately respond to the reports on Twitter; multiple sources told ProFootballTalk the player was being retested to confirm it was not a false positive. Gang Green was among a number of teams affected by those in August.

The test -- and any further potential positives -- could put the Jets' scheduled home game against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday in jeopardy, were they to become the latest team afflicted by a series of COVID diagnoses. The Tennessee Titans have yet to get back on the field following an outbreak that has infected about two dozen team members, forcing an early bye and a Week 5 game delay.

Way to keep an open mind.

So if suddenly he becomes a different QB in 12 games (probably ~9 with injury) then that's the real Darnold and not the one from the last 30 games. I'd actually make that deal with you if I wasn't confident that (a) he will fail; and (b) new excuses will pop up to explain why those games were not representative of his "potential."

Doesn't everyone realize this argument is the mother of all circular arguments? It is also the laziest argument that can possibly be posited in regards to player performance.

-Like a QB who performs poorly: "his weapons held him back."

-Don't like a QB who performs poorly: "He sucks."

-Don't like a QB who performs well: "his weaponz elevated him."

-Like a QB who performs well: "he's a stud."

I actually think its the opposite of being lazy. Anyone can say that the player "sucks" if he is not performing well, however football, more than any other sport, is a product of surrounding players therefore it is worth looking into. If we don't we will just spin our wheels with Lawrence who will face the same situation as Sam, lack of quality offensive players.  If Sam had a very good OLINE and average to above average Wrs, Rbs, and TE it would be easier to evaluate has he just "sucks. This is not the case.

There’s a lot to agree with here, but Sam might be young in age, but old in NFL contract years.  If we are picking 1 Joe Douglas is going to most likely pick a QB and his rookie contract and move on from Sam. There’s no way Joe D. will want to be remembered as the GM who passed on Trevor Lawrence in my opinion.

Good point. I'm asking because I dont know: Is it worth selecting a QB with the #1 pick when you already have a Qb developing only on his 3d year? I mean it seems counter productive when we can trade that pick and set us up for years to come.

This is why we should rest all of our even slightly injured starters, Becton, Darnold, etc.

Let's get the back of the roster some time to be evaluated that they didn't really get during pre-season.  Season is very possibly going to fall apart anyway so let's not worry about squeezing out a victory at this point.  Ending the year 0-6 isn't as bad as 0-16 but it carries the same rewards.

Makes sense. I'm wondering if this were the plan from the start.

You bid Alex Smith, Steve Young, Vinny Testaverde, and I'll throw in Ryan Tannehill, and Josh Allen, too, as an assist.

    I'll raise you the following:

    • Chad Henne
    • Sam Bradford
    • Mitchell Trubisky
    • Christian Ponder
    • Josh Freeman
    • Jason Campbell
    • Marcus Mariota
    • Brock Osweiler
    • Mark Sanchez
    • Geno Smith
    • J.P. Losman
    • Jameis Winston
    • Joey Harrington
    • Blake Bortles
    • Brian Griese
    • Quincy Carter

All of the QB's I listed have been statistically similar QB's to Darnold their first 30 starts (or so), then went on to continue to suck.  And several of them performed better than Darnold over their first 30 starts.

There are even more QB's who didn't make it to 30 starts because of suckage, but still put up numbers that weren't far off from Darnold's in their limited (but telling) sample size.

Quick look at this list, could you argue that most to all of these Qbs had significant weapons on offense? Even far superior weapons to Sam? I mean its not even close right?  I would argue all, and its not even close. Off the top of my head, and obvious familiarity, Mark Sanchez almost got us to a Super Bowl, was an average QB, but had significant weapons (Braylon Edwards, Shonn Green, Dustin Keller, Tomlinson, Holmes) including a superior OLINE. Quick assessment of this rest of the list (not going through all): Mariotta had Henry, Bradford had Steven Jackson. Trubisky has Montgomery, Cohen, Allen Robinson. Bortles  had Fornette, Allen Robinson, Hurns, TJ Yeldon. Jamerson Winston had Godwin, Evens, and OJ Howard. Anyone of the players I just mentioned would be far and away better than any weapon (lmao) that Sam currently has. Maybe Crowder? We didnt even compare HCs. This is just off the top of my head. The ONLY situation were I could see replacing Sam making sense is that we are looking to just totally reset the years at QB cap wise, but arent we significantly under? Why are so many fans quick to start over with Lawrence who has had a full year interrupted where we cant even evaluate him when Sam is significantly at a disadvantage?
