  1. Spotty game from Darnold, although some of the over-reactions over his level of performance (not so much on here) against a superior opponent have been way over the top. Not sure we learnt anything particularly new last night. His turnover rate is an obvious concern. He has issues fumbling the football (hand size?), holds on to the football too long, and needs to rein in some of his gun-slinger tendencies. He still made a lot of high calibre throws last night, and flashes elite potential. In terms of the draft, if you focusing on college production there are other QBs you would take before him. If you focus on future potential, you still take Darnold, or Rosen. Their ceiling is higher than everyone else. Whether the New York Jets are the team to unearth that potential is extremely questionable, given our history of developing QBs. From a Jet perspective, we may be wiser taking a lower ceiling, higher floor kind of QB in Mayfield.
  2. You are probably right...but what if say John Dorsey likes Allen as a prospect every bit as much as Darnold/Rosen. And he knows a team like the Jets love Darnold, enough to give up the farm to move from 9 to 1. In that scenario, why would Dorsey take Allen at 1, when he could trade that pick to the Jets, take Allen at 4 and accumulate another boatload of picks in the process? Cleveland 'should' do the obvious move of taking their QB at 1, but their second pick at 4 makes it interesting and less cut and dried. There is actually an outside scenario where they could even have the first and second picks, in which case all bets are off in terms of what they do. We could really do with Eli and the Giants finishing strong and beating Arizona and Washington.
  3. Double down on Mayfield and Kurt Benkert, Virginia.
  4. Don't beat yourself up. McCown ain't all that. We won 5 games last year with Fitzpatrick. With or without McCown we were winning something similar this year. Maybe 4 wins with Petty, so one extra win. We were never in play realistically for the number one pick, because..Cleveland. What has hurt us this year is the Giants imploding, and Luck going down injured. With NYG and Indianapolis falling off the cliff, even the second available QB was unlikely with Petty.
  5. This could be our Mo Lewis/Drew Bledsoe moment?
  6. Not using a time-out before the half with a minute on the clock tells you all you need to know about they think of McCowns abilities.
  7. 3rd and 7, down 23, hand off to Forte. What is the point of anything anymore? FML.
  8. *throws remote across the room. Just bench the OAP please.
  9. Not really. Tampa and Houston could have joined us on 5-8 with a win. Could have been useful to move up a slot or two.
  10. LOL. Siemian, or whatever his name runs for the first down on 3rd and 8. Pity the Texans, Buccs, Colts lost earlier. We could do with some help in the tankathon. At least there are plenty of other nice games going on. Rams Eagles looks good. Jags Seahawks.
  11. Cousins has looked great any time I have the Redskins this year. I'd sign him in a heart-beat for 22-25m. As much as I love Darnold or Rosen, it is hard not to believe Cousins + Barkley/McGlinchey wouldn't improve our offense more than Darnold/Rosen + any other offensive players available in free agency.
  12. Everyone is happy this weekend. The play-off hopefuls see the Bills, Titans, Raiders and Dolphins lose. The pro-tank crowd see the Texans, Bengals, Chargers and Broncos lose. We should have more bye weeks, we literally can't lose.
  13. I usually like to watch late night Sunday night games. But tonight's are unwatchable. One is the usual Patriot blow-out. Another is the car crash horror show that is the 2017 Buffalo Bills. The only close game is between the 3-6 Denver Broncos and the 3-6 Cincinnati Bengals. I tried watching a bit of this, but life is too short to subject yourself to Brock Osweiler. The AFC Championship this year is the weakest it has been in living memory.
  14. Good day for the tank*. Chargers hold on here and it is all good. Buffalo might not be winning too many more games, which could be a concern. * not sure who we tanking for.
  15. Great moment, I can't stop smiling when I see that. I was as pro-tank as anyone. On board for Suck for Sam and all of that. But this team are playing their hearts out. They are playing for each other, playing for their head coach, and playing for us. They are not the greatest team in the world but they are competitive. I don't think you can ask for much more. In the long run, the collective swagger and belief you get from moments like these, plus whatever mid-round pick in the first round we end up with, will be better than the sixth or seventh pick we could have got if we lost last night. We were never getting a top three pick. We were always too good for that, even if some of us didn't realize. p.s. I love Jamal Adams.
  16. Darnold looks lost out there. The pick and the fumble are bad enough, but his sullen 'deer in the headlights' look on the sideline doesn't exactly scream leadership material either. Darnold has the physical tools, but mentally he isn't ready to take over a game like this. His lack of starts is showing. He has a big decision to make. He probably should stay another year, but I'm not sure that coaching ticket in USC is the one to show-case what he can do. If he comes out, on the right team and with the right coaching, he has enough raw materials to succeed in the NFL, but as things stand he would be a reach if selected in the top 10-15 in next year's draft.
  17. It is not just what the Jets do either. We could win a handful of games, and still end up with a top 3 or 4 pick. For that to happen, the other 'least talented' teams in the NFL need to win here and there as well. So far that is not happening as much as we'd like. Teams like the Colts, Chargers and Bengals are losing close games which is not helping our draft position. The 49ers are 0-4, but have lost their last three games to Seattle, LAR and Arizona by a combined 8 points. They could easily be 2-2 or even 3-1. The 49ers are just as competitive as the Jets are in 2017, but if the season ended now, they'd have a top five draft pick and we wouldn't. Root for the Jets each Sunday, but root for underdog wins in other game as well.
  18. Mason Rudolph gets sacked by his own lineman, and then throws a pick to a defensive lineman on the next play. Rough night 8/18, 164 yards. I like Rudolph but this was his big test and he is stinking the joint.
  19. Darnold is forcing his throws, trying to do too much. He makes Brett Favre look like Chad Pennington sometimes.
  20. Bowles gives us the best chance of securing a top pick in next year's draft, if that is in any way the thinking within the corridors of power at Florham Park. The trouble is, at what cost in the meantime? He is stunting the development of many of our younger players. At some point he will lose the dressing room (again) and I'm not sure operating in such a toxic environment is conducive to developing the few emerging players you have. At some point in the season, there may come a tipping point where you can Bowles loose, still salvage something from the season in terms of player development and without winning the three or four games that could screw us out of a top three pick. Schedule-wise we may have gotten lucky in that respect. You keep Bowles for the 'easy' start to the season where his ineptitude will keep us winless. Get to the bye, hand Bowles his pink slip and give the reins over to Morton or whoever. The Jets could improve performance wise, but still lose down the stretch to the Panthers, Chiefs, Broncos, Saints and Patriots. You haven't lost anything in terms of draft position. But the mood around the team improves and you have something to build on in 2018. Unlike what is going on at the moment.
  21. The Toyota Club, in number of wedding receptions. Great location on the mezzanine, bridal suite amenities, wireless internet, martini bar. Three/four receptions a week * 17 weeks = 51/68 receptions. Can't see any Jet wideout beating that.
  22. Poor sequence there from Darnold. Overthrew an open receiver, then two dangerous throws, the second of which was tipped and intercepted. 11/19 1 Int.
  23. Josh Allen fluffed his lines earlier. Wyoming WRs didn't help him much but he has to produce better than he did against one of the few top level opponents he will face all year. Mason Rudolph was excellent last night. Looking forward to seeing Darnold later. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't hit the ground running
