I have no idea what John Elway was looking at when he decided to draft Paxton Lynch.  I could tell after watching a couple of games on youtube that he was extremely likely to fail.

    He has no balls.

Elway overreacted to losing Peyton Manning.  Things have secondary and tertiary effects.  Mac felt the heat from the media (i.e. - Cimini etc.) who thought he should have drafted Lynch in rd 1 so he panicked and reached for Hackensuck the following day

Watch a couple of college games of Lynch.  NOT JUST A HIGHLIGHT REEL. You'll see happy feet, backpedaling in the face of pressure, throwing off his back foot, and his "cutesy, well-groomed flavor saver" on the photos around the internet.  Find me a hockey player that looks like that? Sure, you'll see a few nice back-shoulder throws mixed in. But he looks more like an actor playing a "good" pirate in a kids movie, not a football player.

Then watch some film of Jared Goff.  You'll see a kid that took a beating, but kept stepping up in the pocket knowing he was going to get hit hard.

Wentz was a better prospect than both IMO.  But Goff has some balls.  Lynch?  They never descended.

Lynch came from a one-read shotgun spread system at Memphis. I also saw his workouts at Indianapolis and wasn't impressed with his accuracy.  He's a poor man's Colin Kaepernick I said it before the 2016 draft

Patsfantx was a huge Paxton Lynch guy and was laughing at us for not drafting him

Doesn't sound like Lynch is doing so hot. With way more weapons and great defense. So at least the Jets didn't miss out on him right?!

Lynch sucks.  Glorified Kaepernick.  I think Simian already got named the starter for the season.

One of the few things Mac got right in his soon to be over tenure but he negated it by reaching for Hackensuck in round 2

Drafting edge rushers in the mid rounds usually works out like this....

Maccagnan's "wall of shame" is growing rather large:  Devin Smith, Mauldin, Hackenberg are all wasted 2nd/3rd round picks in just the first 2 years.

No but Mac has made "good value" picks!  And Devin Smith should be counted as a future HOFer he just couldn't stay healthy

First off, yeah, he looks  better than Kizer. Better thank cook and every other player taken after him? Probably not. But your method of analysis is easy to make every draft pick look bad. Unless you draft a HOFer, there will always be a player here or there that outperforms the player you took. If Maye turns out to be a 10 year starter that makes a few Pro Bowls, I am not going to be upset because Cook happens to be a HOF RB. I love Cook, I also loved Mccffery/Fournette/Mixon. This was a great RB class, but when you are rebuilding you usually don't draft a RB. The Cowboys didn't take Elliot before they built a great line. They also took Zeke despite some off the field issues and he's already been suspended 6 games. Cook has a much more checkered past (same with Mixon) so I am not sure passing on them will look stupid in a few years when they wear down/get suspended etc....

Either way, can these players make one play during a real game before we anoint them?

Maye looks like an ok safety which are a dime a dozen

I loved Cook, but a team rebuilding doesn't need a RB that will get abused behind a bad line/with no QB.

The Vikings have the worst OL in the NFL.  Even worse than the Macagnan-built Jets OL.  Cook just runs really good routes, has good hands and has good game speed

If you have those qualities you don't need the 90's Cowboys OL blocking for you

So far Maye looks better. But these are rookies in their second pre-season game. Only bitter SOJfs would  be whining about the pick already.

Does Maye look better than Dalvin Cook, Deshone Kizer and Tim Williams?

You take Williams off of the 2nd preseason game.  I'm content to let their careers play out, am happy with the player everyone had rated over Tim Williams.  But hey, you keep scouring the stat lines to give yourself material and calling both players mediocre.  I'll just keep in mind your post if improved still would come up way short of mediocre.

    Jamal Adams SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I read these threads it's comical to imagine if the Jets had drafted Carr this place would have exploded in expletives. "How the f*ck could you draft another Carr!"

2017 was an excellent draft.  The Cleveland friggin Browns assembled a good core in just the first two rounds.  And we are screwing around with two mediocre safeties

Serious question, how long do you give a draft pick before you claim they dismally failed. Because IMO last year's draft yielded up to 6 starters which will be 7 if Hack eventually claims the starter role.

This year it's looking like 3 or 4 of the picks may start ( Adams, Maye, Stewart, Leggett) . From 2015 you have Williams, Mauldin, and Simon is a contributor , while Petty is still on the roster.

The concept that his drafts suck is flawed , its just that Jets fans believe every draft pick should be a superstar. No team and I mean no team hits on all of its picks.

Just because a pick starts doesn't make it a successful pick.  Ryan Leaf started his rookie year

History likely won't be kind to you with that evaluation of Adams and Maye.  Maybe for once you should be patient and not overreact.  You sound like the guys who were upset over Leo being drafted at 6 instead of Kevin White during his rookie year.  Those guys probably feel pretty stupid right about now.  My only problem with those selections is that I would have gone Jamal Adams and Dalvin Cook.  Not Marcus Maye.  Both safeties will probably be good players.  Maybe even great.  I still wanted a weapon like DC to bolster the offense.

I regards to last year's class, Lee has looked improved, Jordan Jenkins has come on nicely, Burris has played well, Shell has played well, Lachlan Edwards had a great game last night, if Charone Peake never improves beyond what he is now (decent rotational depth WR) than he was a 7th well spent.  Robby Anderson was a very good UDFA signing.  There is a decent amount of hope for last years draft class/UDFAs.

I'm not even going to entertain the idea of finalizing the careers of guys we drafted this year.  That is beyond stupid.  Even you should know that.

I don't know what to think of Macc anymore.  I'm indifferent to letting him go after this year at this point because I'm tired of arguing about it.  If you like him you won't change your mind.  If you've hated him from day one, you won't change your mind.  It is what it is.  Personally speaking, I don't love every single thing he has done but there are some good things there underneath the sh*t were dealing with now.  Right now, gun to my head?  Give him one more chance, let him pick his own head coach (he didn't select or hire Bowles) draft a 1st round QB like Darnold/Rosen/Rudolph/Allen, and let him spend money in FA to bolster the roster while he continues to build a team through the draft.  Reggie McKenzie was looking like a total failure in Oakland before he got Carr.  Now he is considered one of the best GMs in the league.  That is how much finding a QB can change things.

Adams looked like a scrub last night. Sorry

Please.  The NFL, like most sports leagues, is a good ole boy's club based on nepotism and favoritism.  You see the same retread coaches, coordinators and front office people over and over again.  Kiffin, Irsay, Idzik, Kraft, York, Heimerdinger, etc.  Half the people on this board could run a team better than Jim Irsay or Jim Dolan and draft better than Idzik or Bradway.

    Or Mike Macagnan

Yeah, the whole scouting world should have called you to find out what you thought about a player many thought was the best of the draft.

And after 2 preseason games, less than a game of actual play, you should start patting yourself on that back now.

Tim Williams had a sack and almost another sack last night

So glad we burned all these high draft picks on mediocre safeties
