  1. I have another take on trading down (or at least I think I do). Where the Jets are sitting with the 2nd pick in round 2, JD might be able to get a first rounder in next year's draft, especially if he's will to move back into the middle of the 2nd round. We have seen this type of trade in the past, but the Jets have never had a GM who could pull off such a slick move. Maybe JD is just that guy. If Douglas wants to get back in the 3rd, he could always package a 4 & 5 to do so. This would leave the Jets w/3 1's next year, and still be able to get back into the 3rd round.
  2. As for the announcers using football terminology, Al DeRogatis was one of the best TV color men ever, loved watching him as a kid. He was ahead of his time, and really brought football lingo and strategy to the home viewers. As for the Jets OL play, one of the keys to game was how Dave Herman neutralized Bubba Smith. Other than the sack he had on Namath, you didn't hear much at all from him.
  3. Best game ever live: 1968 AFL Championship game. 6 years old, I thought we'd be in every championship game. Honorable mentions: November of 1971 vs. 49ers. Namath's return to the field after hurting his knee in a pre-season game against the Lions. Jets went down big when Namath came into the game I think around the 2nd quarter. Jets were down big, but Namath threw 3 TD passes to bring them back down 3, 24-21. End of the game saw Namath throw an INT to end the Jets hopes for the comeback. Other than being there for Joe's comeback, what made this game so memorable was the crowd. My parents
  4. Goodcall, thanksfor the clarification. The move is a no-brainer, best case scenario: we get a solid OL, and we lose our shot at drafting the next Scotty McNight (although with Joe D in charge of the War Room, there ain't a shot in hell of the happening).
  5. JD made the right move here. No way do you give up that high a waiver slot before teams begin to really start cutting players. As has already been stated, giving up a 7th rounder for a guy who, at worst, will provide OL depth, and at best, can beat out Winters.
  6. If Khalil passes his physical today, his coming on board reminds me of when Alan Faneca signed with the Jets. 32 years old at the time, while Faneca wasn't as dominant as he was with the Steelers, he was good enough to bring great value to the team. Maybe Faneca's biggest contribution was playing between D'Brick and Mangold, as he was a great veteran presence for those two guys in particular, and that offense in general. I can definitely see Khalil bringing that same type of impact and influence to this Jets squad.
  7. The '68 offense is #1 all-time. Two HOFers in Namath and Maynard, with what should be a third in Winston Hill. Terrific balance with the WRs consisting of Maynard, Sauer, and Bake Turner and the RBs of Snell, Boozer, and Bill Mathis. Add in a tremendous OL that was made better with the acquisition of Bob Talamini at OG, that Jets offense had it all. For me, the most clutch drive for a NYJ offense in their history was the AFL championship game that year. Down 23-20 with under 8 minutes left in the game, and in conditions that were brutal; in 3 passes, Namath drive them down for what e
  8. If things work out like this, McCagnan will long for the days when the first round was 15 minutes per selection. And even then, I remember when the Vikings took up their entire allotted time in round one and were jumped by Jacksonville. At least the Jets have never done that!
  9. If Arizona is truly passing on Murray, wow, what a break for the Jets. Assuming the 49ers don't pick either and they do not trade out of the #2 slot, the Jets should have a multitude of potential trade partners. So we have: Raiders Giants (least likely) Denver Cincy Redskins I can't see the Jets dropping past 15, and if they do make a deal, if all QBs are available at the 3rd slot, part of the trade HAS to include a #1 pick for 2020; especially if they drop in this year's first round in the 10-15th pick range.
  10. From Incarcerated Bob: Jets have two “Substantial” offers to move back from #3 overall. No decision yet from Jets GM he might wait to see who’s still on board once on the clock. #NFLDraft
  11. WOW! The Jets played this one as good as anyone could've hoped for. The shocker in this is that the market for Bell apparently never materialized. Those who said that the talk yesterday of Bell getting interest from the Ravens, Bears, etc. now must have been put out there by Bell's side to try and drum up interest. 4 years for $52.5? That is an unreal deal for the Jets. And for Bell? Hopefully he comes in with a chip on his shoulder that he is pissed that the rest of the league wouldn't pony up higher offers. Glad I stayed up!!
  12. So with this news on Murray, we might have a couple of scenario's that play out very nicely for the Jets. 1. Murray & Haskins go 1-2, which would leave Bosa to us at 3; or 2. One of the QB's goes in the top two along with Bosa, which would leave the #3 spot as a most desirable slot to try and trade up to. The news on Murray today is nothing short of fantastic for the Jets.
  13. This game just showed how important Gurley was to the Rams offense. With him virtually invisible, it made Belichick's gameplan a stone lock. You look at the Rams minus Gurley, the only game breaker is Cooks. The rest of their skill guys are never going to scare anyone. And the Rams OL was exposed tonight, it showed that they couldn't replace Saffold.
  14. So many to choose from! Best game memories at Shea: * Being at the Jets-Raiders AFL championship game. Was only 6, my family had season fix from when the Jets started playing at Shea. I thought this was the way every season ended. Silly yout' * Watch Joe Willie return to the field against the 49ers in '72. Our season fix were upper deck section 10, about half way up. First time I ever felt Shea rock, Namath almost brought the Jets back from being 3 TDs down, almost pulled it out. * Bobby Howfield kicking 6 fgs against the Saints, with the last one at the gun to win the game
  15. What a great article. This flies in the face of the thinking by some that since the Jets "knew" that Darnold was going first overall, that they never did much work on him. Also interesting to see that Allen was not in their top 3 of QB prospects. But overall, you cannot read that article and not get pumped for the potential Darnold has.
  16. Put me down as a definite yes in moving up to 3. Here is something I haven't seen mentioned: as the draft played out, Mikey Mac made a great decision in moving into the 3 spot a month prior to the draft. If he didn't, and the Colts still had the #3 pick, with every QB still on the board at #3, what a bidding war they could've had!! I have no doubt that by waiting, the Jets either would've been outbid for the #3, or they would have had to substitute the #2 pick next year for a #1.
  17. Spot on man. I love the fact that this draft fell exactly as hoped. For the Jets to have the choice between Darnold and Rosen was unreal. I loved Rosen's footwork and tech skills, but there is a reason that Darnold had been graded out as the #1 QB for most draftniks. As far as Darnold's last season at USC, it reminds me a bit of Marino's last year at Pitt. Going into his senior season, Marino was considered the consensus #1. Marino's senior season was generally awful. Yes, the rumors of a failed drug test back then hurt him, but he also dropped due to that reason. Now Darn
  18. Great song by Robert Fripp's League of Gentlemen... The next two and a half hours are going to be torture.
  19. Definitely, you could see that in his movement, very fluid. That is why I think this talk about him being a statue in the pocket is crap. He has the ability to move in the pocket.
  20. I did catch it this morning. What impressed me about Rosen was his movement in the pocket, and how he kept his his shoulder squared up while moving laterally. What I didn't like was that the passes he threw while moving laterally were just dump offs, I would've liked to him have to throw downfield. That being said, his arm speed, release, and accuracy is grade A stuff. I definitely liked what I saw.
  21. If the Browns truly love Allen, it would be nuts not to take Barkley #1 overall (if they feel that he's the BPOB). They could trade out of the #4, but if they fall too far back, you have to think that the Bills will do everything they can to trade up in front of the Browns. And wouldn't that be true Browns...have two of the first 4 picks and come away with 0 QB's.
  22. That was still my thinking, is that the Browns are floating Mayfield out there to see if a team like the Jets bite. We are still about 5 1/2 hours from the Browns on the clock, so it would be a smart move to put that out there. Now if this is true, I could definitely see the Giants still locked in on Barkley, and it would not shock me if they stayed with him at #2. Another thought on this crazy day is if Darnold is available at #2, does a team like the Broncos try and move up to #2. If let's say that the Giants have Chubb as the #1 player overall, and the Broncos look a
  23. Hey Dave, My screen name is actually the jersey #'s for Jets OL from SB III. Thanks for the build up, let's see if I still have my fastball. It would be great if some of the Usenet crew is out here. The wars that we had back then were epic. As far as the validity of the info, who knows? Everyone is throwing up smokescreens right now. Is it plausible that the Giants don't like Rosen? Sure it is. He might've flunked his interview with them. Another angle could be by throwing this out via back channel, it could give a team that wants to get up to 2 for a QB. Righ
  24. Hi all, First time, long time... Long time lurker, from what seems like a hundred years ago, I used to post on a.s.f.p.ny-jets and was a part of many a Jets/Pats newsgroup war. Looking forward to posting more out here, but I saw an article on CBSports that I have seen posted anywhere out here, if it was, apologies. The story, written by Will Brunson, states that the talk around the Giants is that the only QB they will take at #2 is Darnold. As for Josh Rosen, the story states that the Giants have no interest in drafting him. With all of the pre-draft gaga out there now, who
