No, he really wasn't.  A couple unblocked sacks were nice.  Those W's wouldn't have happened without the strong CB play we got in those games.  Darryl Roberts, Brian Poole and Blessuan Austin had their best games of the season in those wins.

Adams' impact is a lot more limited than you're acknowledging, and certainly isn't worth spending CB1 money when we all know the offense needs something like 7 new starters.

One of the plays was where he ran over one of the Giants blocker to rip the ball out of Jones hands. This is what I mean, you just hate the guy and don't  want to hive him any credit.

I don't want him to hold out, because that will reduce his trade value.

Nothing about his personality suggests it would be a surprise if he holds out.  He's about to only make $3M and this is the first year where he'll be able to hold out.   Meanwhile, he stated himself he puts himself on the level of Aaron Donald.

And as Shane pointed out, two different journalists have brought it up as well.

Oh BS. You would be in your glory crowing like a person that just won lottery about how you were right about him. Nothing would make you happier.

You don't pay Jamal big money because of a lack of good players.

We already paid CJ Mosley QB money.  We can't afford to double down on defensive players at non-impact positions.

See this is where you are wring. Adams is an impact player. He is directly responsible for 2 wins this past season

the problem with this analysis is that it ignores the overall talent level at other positions.  the jets had an historically bad OL this season, they need at least 3 new starters, and may let robbie walk in FA and then need a top wr as well.

at this point in the team's rebuilding, the best use of the team's resources is to try to trade jamal and use the picks and cap room to help the offense.  b/c if the offensive line remains such a mess it won't matter how good jamall is.

Oh my God, we may not have Robbie Anderson because we want to pay Jamal? The Horror

  5. 2 minutes ago, Augustiniak said:

that is the wrong logic.  you don't pay huge money to someone who isn't worth it just b/c your team sucks and you don't have other players to pay.  you use your assets to get other players who are worth that kind of money at premium positions.

    He is totally worth it.

    Against RBs and TEs.

And the role you describe for the SS is exactly why he isn't worth $15M a year.  You don't pay someone that kind of coin to do something that isn't nearly as important as covering WR1s and WR2s.

    $15M+ is CB1 money.

Sunce there is nobody else worth payong that money to on D, I have no problem paying it to him

Because I've watched him the few times he is asked to cover.

What happens to 15 million a year jamal adams when we do get a pass rusher?

It was amusing this year to see people getting on Hewitt, an ilb for getting burned in coverage when he was being asked to cover slot Wrs and such often.  And why would this be?

Seriously, ILB are supposed th be able cover. There are some WR's you don't  want to see matched up on a LB of course but Hewitt coveri g a WR isn't  exactly isolated just to the Jets. The Pats get Edleman matched on LB's a couple of times a game. How do you think he gets wide open the way he does.

Adams covers more than fine. Does he get burned sonetimes, yeah, just like any other player but i recently read he has an 80 QBR against. I'll take that from a S.

    * While creating a hole in the secondary

He's as much of a liability as a playmaker when he's constantly blitzing.  Hence why we had the # 18 pass D in the NFL per DVOA.

I'd rather get an EDGE to be an EDGE and a cheap Safety to play Safety than pay $16M for Jamal to be an EDGE.

You obviously don't  understand the position. A S blitzing is situational. If the guy he is supposed to cover (RB or TE) is staying in and blocking, how does that create a hole if he blitzed. There is much more risk on DB blitz where you have to hope the DB has clear path and gets on the QB so quickly he has no time to get the pass to the WR he just turned loose. There is no hole if Adams is taking the TE or RB and he stays in to block.

If he holds out, he literally won't be showing up on Sundays.

Nobody has control of that except Adams and there is no indication that he is going to hold out. All you are doing is stating something you personally hope he is going to do because you hate the guy and want to be justified.

What does your defense have to give up to make your safety a pass rusher?

A pass rushing olb brings you so much more than a pass rushing safety.

You can still blitz a safety at times but not being reliant on a safety to get  a pass rush or always be the run stopper gives you much more flexibility to stop the pass.

We play Adams the way we do because we don't  have pass rushers. That doesn't  mean he sucks at everything else. Why do you think Adams can't  cover?

Our offense has more holes than a golf course and we also need a CB and an Edge rusher. Moving Jamal immediately accelerates the offensive rebuild and helps build around Sam. For me that's more important than having the best safety in the league, not to mention the guy already revealed himself when he had his melt down mid season. Trade him, draft WR and OL in the first and be done with it.

Honestly, WTF cares about what Adams does or say off the field. He can go on a religious retreat and start worshiping Allah for all i care, as long as he shows up on Sunday and plays the way he does. And you don't  build your O by gutting your D and right now that is what we would be doing. There is nobody worth a damn on D except for Adams. Don't  tell me Mosely, we have no idea how he will come back from an injury that shelved him for the entire season, Williamson as well. The idea of trading the only player on the team aside form Sam that is actually worth a damn is incredibly short sighted. And what happens if JD is as bad at drafting as our last two GM's. We all saw what he did in FA so color me unimpressed. Where is the evidence this guy can draft? Trading Adams at this time is huge gamble.

Even if he just wants to be the top safety, that's too much.  Jamal Adams doesn't do anything that merits 15M per.  We have 3 years of evidence to support this.

Can ypu explain to me what Adams doesn't  do well or what he would have to do to Merit top defender money?

Love Jamal but the draft is loaded with OL and WR talent. We should trade him and invest that money on offense and building depth and talent in our  premiere defensive positions (CB,Edge)

I am so sick of reading this here. Why would you trade the best player on the team for draft picks. We know what Adams is. He is arguably the best S in the league. He does everything a S should do really well and more. Draft picks are a crap shoot. It's  not like we haven't  seen guys like Dave Cadigan and Lam Jones. We don't  even know if JD can run a draft. He has never done that before.

As for the question, you don't  negotiate with a player who has 2 years left on his deal. It will suck if Adams does this but you can't  allow players to run the management  side of the team. If he holds out, then that is what he does. You live with it.

I’m not going to talk Browns here, but do yourself a favor and look up OBJ’s numbers since 2016. Playing with a talented QB like Baker is at least keeping him relevant.

Come on, you know how I cant  resist chiming in whenever you or Villian talks about Sam.

    Happy New Year

You must love watching Swashbuckling Sam pile them up with all those quick little dinks and dunks to Crowder every week, huh?

Actually we prefer to watch Baker throw the ball to the wrong team just about every game and make OBJ into one of most pedestrian  WR in the league.

    That last part took talent.

Its pretty amazing how quickly he’s being labeled a franchise “QB after 12 games. All I hear about is his (3) 4+ TD games/0INT games yet it is often ignored that the Giants lost 2 of those 3 games.

I can’t deny Jones looked better than Darnold this year, but he certainty wasn’t perfect. We are getting narrative from the media that Gettleman drafted a Hall of Famer.

  17. If all the OT's aee gone by 11, take the best edge or WR. We need them about as badly as OT and we shouldn't  pass a stud at a position of need to take a lesser OL. There are three guys at WR who would be great, Lamb, Jeudy, and Ruggs who is drawing comparisons to Hill. I would be happy with any of them if we don't  get Wirfs.

And his position just isn't that valuable.  Certainly not $15M per.

While people are busy lauding Adams for his sack totals, they forget that he was a liability for our pass coverage as well.  The more time he spent freelancing at the LOS or rushing the passer, the more of a strain he put on the rest of the D when he wasn't getting to the QB.

Just because Gregg Williams was using him like that doesn't mean its a sustainable way to build a defense.  John Fox built an offense around Tim Tebow once and won a playoff game.  Didn't stop the Broncos from moving on from Tebow the next season.

Ok, did you just seriously compare Adams to Tim Tebow.

Look, I'm not going to argue this point with you after that. It's  obvious you hate him and I'm  not going to waste my time trying to change your mind.

I will just say this. Adams plays his position correctly, he also is not a liability on pass coverage.

    Tebow? Seriously?
