You are 100% correct that you can't give up on any player after one year. That said, this team desperately needed an edge rusher, and we were in position to get one last year. Allen, Sweat and Burns were all there for the taking. Any one of those guys would have made this a much better defense. The pick of Q can not be justified, no matter how good he gets.
I don't think Allen would have had the same impact on the Jets, that goes for Oliver as well. The trurh is our D isn't very good and over achieved this season. We have no pass rushers and no DB's. The only thing we have is DL and o e or two LB's. Next season can be very different with Mosley and Williamson back. The development of Hewitt will also pay benefits. Q will have a lot of help that could get him miss matches and free him up on olays. This guy isn't Leo.

I’m not sure where this comes from. That TD against the Steelers with joe Haden and the safety Draped all over him was spectacular. Most of our big plays were to Robbie Anderson.
The way I see it is that we had a 5 game stretch where Sam wasn’t playing. Game one he already had mono and everyone noticed that he looked off.
Sam took time to come back too even though he looked good in the Dallas game.
Robbies numbers were not what they could have been this year but this team was a dumpster fire the first half of the year. Not his fault. The WR is dependent on the QB who is dependent on the OL.
I’m 100% for bringing Robbie back and I am
Hoping they can work it out. I’d pay the man. Even if we draft a #1 WR, he will be on his rookie contract while we pay Robbie.
That said, I am hoping that JD can ultimately met guys like Robbie go when they want to get paid with a younger guy waiting to fill the roll ala the Steelers or Pats. I just don’t know if we’re there yet with Smith.
Let’s pay Robbie
Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile appThere ia no denying Anderson has big play ability but he is not Tyreke Hill. That is a guy that has speed and does everything. You hit Hill on a slant or cross and he turns it up field. Hit Anderson on the same route and he runs out of bounds. I would like to keep Anderson but for the money he wants, he doesn't do enough.

BULLSCHTEIN. The Jets will be taking an OL at 11.
It depends. If Thomas and Wirfs are gone and you are looking at Lamb or Jeudy, i think you go with the best WR instead of the third ot 4th best OL. It's not like we have a guy like them on the team

Props to you for your faith in Sam and the reasonable assesment.
You case for him wasn't very inspiring though, lol.
The Jets personnel wise are probably a bigger mess than the Browns leadership wise. When we have a serviceable OL, OBJ, Landry, Chubb, and Hunt, I'll be worried more about Sam being a failure when he turns in a season like the one Baker just did.
-
I don't think we would miss either one. Anderson doesn't make enough plays and Smith is a 4 or 5. I don't see either as a needed player. Yes, Anderson is good for running down the field and taking the top of the D which opens the middle but apparently we weren't able to take advantage of that too much or Crowder should have had a career year. Also, Anderson just does some boneheaded things. I have seen him just running away from plays while Sam is scrambling looking for a place to throw. We need smarter players
-
That was most likely staged.
Then again, Gronk dented that last SB trophy using it as a bat to hit a ball .

Happy New Year 723
I keep telling you why they do it, but you don't believe me.
If Darnold had performed the way they said he would the last two years, nobody here would care about Mayfield or the Browns.
They're all in on Sam, but disappointed with the way things are going so far. Mayfield flew out of the gate last year, and that bothered them, so they started taking every shot they can at him and the Browns to make themselves feel better about Sam and the Jets.
Since you are makong this more about Mayfield and less about the Browns organization, Monken in particular who a lot of people here wanted as HC before Gase was selected, I couldn't be happier to have Darnold over Mayfield right now. Mayfield came our strong thanks to beating up on a bunch of teams tlwith losing records. This uear he emploded. Sam has not taken any steps forward, mabe even regressed a but at least he didn't do it on a team loaded with talent.

Why is there so Much focus on the Browns/Mayfield? I admit I’m not unhappy they imploded after all that hype but honestly who cares. My main focus is on the Jets, I don’t take in any serious thought about other teams or their problems
It's the offseason and the draft is months away. Chill

It was a joke. You know I love all the threads that end up talking about Mayfield.
Happy New Year, my friend.
Actually this was about the Browns.

It's a testament to great coaching that we figured out a way to end the year 6-2.

You better hope this is true and you're not just pushing buttons. The schedule next season is brutal.

If this is true, Browns had no other choice but to clean house.

I would guess so if you still have a job after losing your last two playoff games like 120-40 and having both games over after the end of the first Q.
And still are one of the top 5 programs in college football.

He gets $6M per year at OK, what if JJ offered him a 5 year $60M contract?
I don't think that is going to happen but let's say it does. Most likely, Riely already makes more money than he can spend in a place like Oklahoma and he has solid job security. Getting a job as a college coach is like getting a 10 year annuity, you have guaranteed income and job and at the college level, it is all about the coach. The coach is like a God. On The Cowboys, it's all about Jerry Jones.
If it was me, I would stay put. It isn't like he is going to have a better quality of life. The only reason for him to cone is if he has a desire to coach at the next level.

that seems to contradict itself to me....
It's likely Fitz is resigned, then sucks and they start Rosen and show case him for a year to trade him. Tua is likely holding a clipboard healthy or not.

Did we ever find out why the heck they traded Tunsil?
Well, i think it's obvious they wanted to trade any player likely to net a high pick

Ross needs a splash in Miami. But Flores could shock everyone & take Herbert? You never know? It all depends on how his injury is viewed.
I think they would go another year with Fitz or trade back. I doubt Tua is that badly injured anyway. He most likely sits out his first year and continues to rehab.

Tua may return to Bama but if he doesn’t his injury will most likely push him down draft boards. With our luck he ends up with the Pats and has a great career
There is no way he gets past Miami

Who here would trade Darnold for Tannehill right now?
I wouldn't. Darnold has a higher ceiling.

Last time the Dolphins with a healthy Tannehill under Gase played the Pats, the Dolphins won the game.
Agree that the Jets' 2019 offense was often underwhelming. That happens with 2 and 3 QBs and patchwork OLs. Not giving Gase coach of the year, and at times the playcalling was odd. And at times Darnold looked lousy. But he was running for his life most afternoons. And that again comes back to an OL that was inexplicably neglected since, if you could put a date on it, the day Mike Tannenbaum left.
I just love the way Gase apologists keep pointing to a lucky win against the Pats as a reason to believe in him.
