  1. The 80s logo on the metallic "gotham" green helmet looked great this past season. However, I think a lighter shade, a metallic kelly green would have the possibility of looking even better. I'd go back to kelly green for the uniforms. Also, I still think they should use the Namath Era uniforms and white helmets as alternates.
  2. If you zoom in on picture 4/5 in that same Instagram post, the 80's logo is also present on the three jerseys hanging in the three left lockers. FWIW, the current logo is displayed above the jersey's on the lockers themselves. All in all, this looks like a positive sign for a change back to the 80's logo, which, due to its enduring popularity and retro-modern aesthetic would be a slam-dunk, no-brainier of a brand and marketing decision.
  3. IMHO - The ideal solution is the 80's uniform in Green and white (no black alternate) as primary and use the Namath era (not 1998-2018) uniforms as the alternates. It's the best of both worlds.
  4. Good observation! The font in the teaser video definitely recalls the 80's logo/wordmark. However, the two letters that are replicated ("E" and "S") are altered. The horizontal elements of the "E" in the teaser video are different (in the 80's wordmark, the lower line on the E is longer than the others) and the middle section body of the "S" is thinner and more rounded, but still recalls the original. This may suggest that they have tinkered with the logo a bit or they never had a full font commissioned from the 80's logo wordmark. I hope they don't alter the logo and just reuse it 100% stock. What an abomination it would be to get new uniforms, but they introduce some lame new logo instead of going with this classic 80's wordmark.
  5. Wonder if the black will just be an alternate. Hope so, as imho it shouldn't be an option at all. Any intel on whether the 80's logo is coming back?
  6. This better include the 80s logo, otherwise it's a fail. A new logo or a variant of the 1998-2019 logo will be a fail. They should use the Namath-era uniforms and logo along with gray facemasks as throwback alternatives instead of black.
  7. The original 1960's and revised 1998 Namath-era uniform with wordmark is not identical to the current wordmark used on the facilities. Until the switch to the ugly uniforms in 2019, the wordmark in Namath logo and the wordmark commissioned by the Jets were different. The letter "J" in the Namath-era logo was elongated and taller than the "ets." This was often a mismatch, I believe, between the Namath-era logo and the painted "JETS" in the end zone during games from 1998-2018. The only time the current wordmark on the facilities have matched the helmet is from 2019-present (except for the idiotic football on the bottom of the helmet logo). My first choice for a new, permanent look are the 1980s uniforms + 1980s logo, however a second choice, or better yet, for use as an actual throwback uniform, would be a correct 1960's Namath era uniform, with a brighter kelly green, correct shoulder stripes and a true football-shaped (not oval) Namath-era classic logo. As an alternate logo, I could see the Namath-era football shaped logo with the 1980's wordmark inside of it. However, there are too many white helmets already in the AFC East (Bills and Dolphins, Patriots when they use throwbacks), so having the green helmet is preferable. In fact, the Bills should go back to their red helmet.
  8. Did they? I could be wrong, but I believe the current typeface extends back to the Parcells-era Namath uniform re-do. They had that typeface custom-created...according to some. That typeface was used since then. I think the signage on the facility did not need to change in 2019 - they made the boring helmet logo match the facility signage at that time. I am specifically referring to the large metal letter blocks by the flag pole, the metal wordmark at the entrance to the facility, the wordmark painted on the top of the facility, the metal wordmark outside the facility, etc...
  9. If that's the case it would be perfection. I could see customizing the current legacy jersey by adding a small 80's logo to the back of the jersey at the collar. Also, I could see using the current typeface with "NY" in a football shaped-oval patch on a sleeve. However, what about all of the expensive signage around their facilities? Are they going to change them out or keep them? Some of them, like the painted murals might be low cost, but the physical signage could be quite expensive to update.
  10. Everything depends on the 80's logo being included in this rumored update. If the 80's logo isn't there, this will be a fail. One commenter in the comments section on the recent article on Uni-Watch about the Jets' speculated uniform change: https://uni-watch.com/2024/01/21/exclusive-interviews-with-the-guys-behind-the-jets-uni-rumors/ - talks about how the ownership of the Jets are married to the current boring wordmark - that they custom commissioned the typeface, the wordmark is all over the Atlantic Heath Facility in wall murals, and is all over multiple Jets venues. The commenter goes on to say that the reason why the 80's logo didn't return five years go was because ownership didn't want to spend the money to rebrand all of these facilities as the cost would be prohibitive, that the priority is to make the logo match this typeface that's already on the facilities and that's why the team went with the current, boring logo as it tied into the existing signage. The 80's jets logo is, by far, the best logo that the franchise has ever had. If the Jets release new uniforms, and stick with some variant of the current wordmark, or try to use elements of the 80's logo with the current typeface to create a weaker version, any new look is going to be a big fail. Until this season, the Jets haven't played a game with the 80's logo since the 1997 season, but the fans are attached to the logo and routinely display it. Let's hope the Jets bite the bullet and pay-up to re-brand their facilities so that this logo can return.
  11. Looking forward to Darnold Vs. Allen / Rosen 2x per year. Exciting for the division for many years to come.
  12. Yes. The 80's wordmark is far superior to what they decided to put on the new helmet (as much as I like the return to the green helmet). A few mock-ups were posted here from reddit after the new unis were released with this concept - new Jets text with jet. It looked really sharp. Too bad. Not happening.
  13. This is a great idea and could have made the helmet logo palatable.
  14. They are both centered relative to the oval. The space created between the "New York" and the "J" just doesn't look very good.
  15. This doesn't include the 49ers who went to black for a little while and then dropped it (I think). If the black merch fails to "take flight," will it remain in the color scheme in five years?
  16. Just got my new Jets merch, and I'm loving it! It's even got the smallest touch of "Stealth Black" mixed in. Also like that it's made right here in the USA.
  17. If confirmed, it's Stealth Black uniforms for the first outing in the new gear.
  18. Love this. I like how it incorporates the current font with the abstract jet. Perfectly completes the rest of the uniform. Miss opportunity and 1000x better than the huge football.
  19. Some of your work is done as "Spotlight White" is already the main background color Since "Stealth Black" can only be worn 3x per year, limit that color on the site and focus on "Gotham Green!"
  20. Well, they rehashed a previous uniform, so I guess I did.
  21. Yep. Does the NFL five year design change rule also apply to minor "tweaks" ? If not, the braintrust should be all over this.
  22. Something akin to this concept must have been brought forward and then vetoed...shame as it would have been the cherry on top. Does anyone actively like the huge football on the helmet now?
  23. This really works. A simple change that helps to bring the look together. It's far better than the oversized football on the helmet now, goes with the inspiration for the rest of the uniform, and actually features a reference to the object that the team is named after.
  24. Pains me to say it, as I wanted new uniforms, but the 2018 uniforms were much better. Tweaks to the old uniform that could have made it even better: - swap out the hunter green for the original Kelly Green - change the oval to back to the football shape and place it at a slight angle like the originals - get rid of the "NY" and mini football and put in the 80s wordmark in the green "football" to incorporate the "jet imagery" and to create an "amalgam" between generations, since they seem to want to do that.
  25. This concept would have been my preference and they were so close, but they couldn't make themselves use the 80's wordmark (it works nicely in the oval here). Is it true that Jets' ownership paid to have a custom typeface designed back when they bought the team in the late 90's? If this is so, perhaps they felt they had to get value from that rather than use the 80's wordmark?? Yeah, I know lots of folks don't like this direction, but the new unis harken back to this era anyway.
