I'm surprised they got that much out of him. I know he's confident, but I wouldn't've expected more from him than, "I expect a good year."
I mean he did say it with a chuckle. I was recording video on my phone while he was autographing my son's stuff, so I did not get this, but there very easily could have been someone else doing the same thing I was at that very moment. So he is very confident, that's for sure. love it!

Wins? Playoffs? Superbowl?
it's funny, I took my son to the camp practice on Saturday, and while Sam was signing autographs, some random dude asks: "Super Bowl this year, Sam?" and Sam replied: "Playoffs!"
about as close to a "Namath Guarantee" as you're gonna get from Sam I think.

Cant believe Sam is only going to play one play today. I know they'll want to give him a series, but what the heck is he going to do after he drops back and throws a bomb to Anderson for a 70 yrd touchdown?
this would be the absolute perfect scenario!

Agreed. I want the win to build up some confidence. The Giants are ripe for picking.
meh. a win would be nice, but rather beat them in November when it counts!!

So psyched the game is tonight. C;mon Sam, TD on the first drive then watch the rest of the game from the sidelines.
this would be perfect!
I usually do not get excited for pre-season games, except for last year. it was cool having Sam as the backup. gave me a reason to watch late in the first half when he came in and then played the rest of the game.

You think they give him 2? I could see us getting the ball first and giving Darnold one drive for this game and that’s it.
With Bell out, the rb position will be interesting to watch. Who gets more touches, Cannon or Eli ?
Jachai Polite coming out party ?
Tom Compton, Edoga, Harrison. Really hoping we can see come great play from the back ups this preseason.
Rontez Miles with the ones ?!? Sheeeesh
is Cashman the real deal?
I agree but what if the ones go three and out? on't want that bad taste in you mouth, especially against that bad Giants D....

This is ridiculous! In 2009 the Jets had the best running game in football & a top 3 Oline. Last year the Jets running game was ranked #30. The Packers went 6-9-1 without a running game & they have the best QB in football.
Is there a Jet fan on this board that believes Sanchez could match Sams QBR the last quarter of the season missing 3/4 of the Oline, handing off to Eli McGuire & Trenton Cannon, throwing to a rookie TE, an UDFA, & Punt & kickoff returner in Roberts?
Give me a freaking break because we all know the answer to that question.
I think you nailed it right here. well said.

I think it's both ways here. But I hear ya. I am optimistic, but I have to admit I don't do well with optimism when it comes to the Jets. The one time, and last time I let it sink in was opening day of 1999. I honestly thought we were the team that was going to win it all. Before the game I thought "this must be what niners fans feel like". lol
I was actually in Cleveland with a bunch of other fans welcoming the Browns back to the NFL for their first game as the new Browns. I thought it was going to be such a great day. I has such altruistic NFL hopes. Then Vinny tore his achilles and the Browns fans attacked me for it. I ended up getting arrested right outside the Cleveland Browns stadium for about a 20 person brawl with those jerks who just wouldn't allow my Jets jersey to be there. Oh... I was the only guy arrested for fighting about 10 Browns fans by myself. Grab the Keyshawn jersey. What a terrible day that started with so much hope. lmao
And now you know why I REALLY hate the Browns and whoever their QB of the month is.
Oh...but I digress.
wow. I agree with '99 - good times. but last time I felt this good was 2011. after two straight AFC championship game appearances, how could we not? all downhill after that.
And I agree with the optimism overall: as a Jets fan our mantra is: "hope for the best, but expect the worst"! I should have clarified my comment as optimism about DARNOLD. there is a LOT of negative energy on this board regarding him, and I just do not understand it? It's not like we have had a Brady-caliber QB for 20 years and Sam is trying to fill his shoes. I mean who have we had to watch over the last 10 years? the Sanchize, Geno, FitzTragic, Hack, etc?

These vids are collections of others iterviews, some of which I've seen before, all in one place. The first one is Ian Rappaport. There is about a 25 second sound issue. It passes and the rest is fine. I gotta say, I'm getting nervous with all of this Jets love guys. It makes me uncomfortable to see how much everyone outside of our fan base loves Sam Darnold before he's really done anything. I don't know why it bothers me but it does. Even the way Gase gushes about Sam makes me nervous. Hmmmmm.
Enjoy the vids
Key words: “outside of our fan base”. Sad but true. It’s amazing how elsewhere you hear good things about Sam but here it’s “well it was ONLY three games last year”....”it’s only practice”.....”Baker is so much better”.....etc.
I know we are long suffering Jets fans, but a little optimism never killed anyone!-

Giants 4-12? Clueless
I think that was assuming Eli in all year. If Jones 1-15 more like it.

True, but if Baker did it he would have given the reporter a choice sound-byte about not kissing rings (like Rex.) Darnold is smarter than that, which is why it's such a substanceless story.
He would have done a lot worse than that! Would have been something to embarrass the Jets organization that’s for sure!

This makes me even happier that when I got a picture with Sam after Saturday's camp practice this week wearing my **** the Patriots shirt.
I still need to make a post with my pics from the weekend. Maybe I'll do it tonight if I dont suck.
I know who you are! I was there and took a pic of you! I was about to post it here but not sure you’d want me to....

If he was the Jets QB (and almost was) you’d be eating this up for breakfast lunch and dinner. Everyone here would.
Let him be who he is, I say. It’s fun and nice change for the NFL and Kraft era of snootery
not me. not a chance in hell. you remember how Sanchez got killed for that whole GQ white t-shirt thing? this is worse.

Right, but that happens every 4 years.
Do they always move the preseason game to week 1 when they play in the regular season?
they did not the last time this happened (2015)

He may not fix ot with these signings, but he can certainly swap out the terrible players we currently have for not-as-terrible players.
I like what Joe is doing. Get bodies in, compete and provide yourself opportunity to swap out as much of your current terrible players as possible.
I get it, and was really just kidding. My point is: it’s not like he’s going out and getting another RB or LB or something. I think most of us would agree OL and CB are probably highest on our needs list and anything helps!-

True. I'd be very happy to only see Sam for the 1st half of the 3rd game. Preseason games are terrible. I can't wait until they finally cut them in half.
Agree. that is the ONLY thing I liked about last year vs this year: since Sam was the rookie, we had a reason to watch pre-season games! I think he came in late 1st half, then played full second half of the first game. it was must watch!! LOL

By Steve Serby
December 20, 2017
https://nypost.com/2017/12/20/two-giants-on-qb-future-stick-with-webb-pass-on-the-draft/
On the day when Davis Webb was finally given his first first-team practice reps, Landon Collins offered his advice for the next Giants general manager, on the day favorite Dave Gettleman interviewed for the job.
Informed the next Giants GM currently has the second pick in the 2018 NFL Draft with a chance to draft a franchise quarterback — Josh Rosen or Sam Darnold if he comes out — Collins told The Post, “Don’t draft him. Don’t do it. Davis is gonna be really good in the league when it’s his time, I promise you.”
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie seconds that emotion. Asked what he’s noticed about Webb, DRC said: “A young Eli. I used to laugh at him, ‘Why is the man mimicking Eli during a practice when Eli takes a step, you can see him behind him doing the same motion he is. What is wrong with this dude?’ It finally hit me that he’s just trying to do everything that he’s doing, so he’s definitely learning, willing to learn and he’s doing the right things, I think.”
Asked if he thinks the Giants need to draft a quarterback with the second pick, Rodgers-Cromartie told The Post: “Nah, nah. I think he’s the guy that has the arm, and he’s studied under Eli, so I think he still has an opportunity to be that guy.”
I remember this. My Dad ( a huge giants fan) was telling me how BRILLIANT giants were for not taking Darnold, and instead taking Saquon: "we have the giants 'QB of the future' - Davis Webb"
His b-day is around Labor Day, and (coincidentally) we were together celebrating last year when the idiots let Webb go and the Jets picked him up. I had to rub it in: "now the Jets have their 'QB of the future', AND the giants'!"
To add to this, my son and I went to Jets camp on Saturday - which was amazing BTW; so many players autographing stuff for my son, Jamal took a selfie with him, etc - and Davis Webb signed an autograph for him. I couldn't resist: I took a picture of him with my son and sent it to my Dad: "giants QB of the future at Jets camp today"

On Sam, but liked what he said about his teammates rallying around him after his first pass as a rookie was a pick six. He has great teammates. Short video.
Love it. Thanks for this. -
Typical “Dick” Cimini, Disclaimer it came against 2nd team D. He’s still a major douche.
Well, they are playing the giants this week, so they wanted to prep Sam with an equivalent D.-

tix are free but don't know if they are still available … check Ticketmaster
It’s at MetLife. If it sells out, we have one hell of a dedicated fan Base! -
Wait so did Darnold throw the pick in team drills or 1 on 1?

The Baker Mayfield and His Mouth Thread
in NY Jets Forum
Posted
someone mentioned yesterday that WWE icon Stone Cold likes Baker. I think if Baker was in the WWE, his act would be absolutely perfect!!! Hell, I'd cheer for him! and Sam? well Sam would be so damn boring and would be run out of WWE so quickly that's for sure!
But this is the NFL, not WWE: I don't want that crap out of my QB, no matter how good he is. We have been down this road before too many times. So nice to have Sam as "the face that runs the place"!!
