Darnold is the best QB we've had since Kenny O'Brien. I love how people still whine - we passed on Marino for him - if we drafted Marino and surrounded him with the absolute lack of talent Kenny O had most of his Jet career - he would have sucked too. Watch game film of Kenny's 2nd and first half of his 3rd season - he was special and this crap organization ruined him. He was sacked 40 times and hit hard prolly another 30 times during his 3rd season, kinda ruined him. I cant count how many great throws he made in his career that were called back due to holding penalties. Walton was a brilliant offensive mind, but he never tailored the offense to fit his personnel.
I agree, and as I have said many times: Ken has the same # of SB wins as Marino....

This year? Baker played 6 games, Sam has played two.
Baker is 2-4, Sam is 1-1, so nothing much has really happened has it?
listen, I am not trying to argue with you, but what I have seen from you in the past are things like: Sam does well, people on here say bad things about Baker, Allen or more recently, Jones. Your response seems to be: why bring them into it? has nothing to do with Sam.
so now this guy is saying how poorly Baker has played and you respond by bringing Sam into it????

Went back and watched the game to see how Edoga did after reading that Lawrence had no hits on Sam. We can kill Macc for a lot of things, but this may turn out to be one of his best picks (besides Sam).
This kid has GREAT feet and can get to the 2nd level faster than most OTs.
In watching him, there were no "WTF is he doing?" plays you'd expect from a rookie. I'd say maybe 4 or 5 snaps where he "could've done a little better". Many times he'd mirror Lawrence deep and Sam would have the presence to step up a 1/2 step and all was well. What was also interesting was that it wasn't until the last drive did they line up a TE to his side to give him help.
Another observation was that Shell didn't play bad when he cam in for Beachum. Had one bad play where he blocked inside and gave up a sack.
Not sure if anyone noticed, but the Jets used a FB on one play during the last drive. The FB was - Jonotthan Harrison
Now THIS is the kind of stuff I like to see! Let's hope this kid works out!!
and what is the deal with Harrison? he should be playing for Kalil IMO.

You don't think the Browns forums talk about Darnold? I guarantee if Darnold keeps playing you'll see a ton of his threads on their forums. Mayfield, Darnold, and Allen are going to be among topics of conversation on our boards moving forward.
and don't forget Jones (where's that "rolling eyes" emoji?)

This is where Darnold has just a little bit of that Tom Brady to him. No, I'm not saying Darnold is Brady, but I've always thought that the one thing Brady is best at is making players around him better. He's been turning average players in excellent ones, excellent ones into elite ones, and takes an elite player like Randy Moss and finds a way to elevate him even higher to one of the all-time great seasons by a WR.
There's no doubt that Robby Anderson, Crowder, etc. all look a little better because Sam Darnold is delivering the ball to them at the right time in-stride.
very good post. as usual.

Sam was terrific on Sunday. He earned it.
When you are done taking your little victory lap, am I allowed to point out that Mayfield won the Offensive Rookie of the YEAR award, and a few OPOW's last year. Nice to see Sam finally get on the board though.
Darnold deserves this recognition he got for Sunday's performance, now let's keep it rolling. This season can still be salvaged.
woo hoo!!! some "Sam positivity" from the man who claimed his number!! LOL
but as for the ROTY award.....as MANY (and I mean MANY) midgets fans have pointed out to me, a certain little RB won that award......believe me, I wish Baker had won it....ugh

I don't think him being the 4th best safety is anything to crow about, is it? It's year 3 and he's one of highest drafted safeties of all time @1.6

Just now, Patriot Killa said:Very quiet lmao! Wonder if Sam is still behind all the other 2018 QB’s that clearly aren’t as ahead of the curb than him.
Listen I was so ticked off after week 1 when people on here were saying things like "tank for Tua", "Sam sucks", etc. it was one game, he actually played pretty well (11th ranked QB that week), and as we have since come to realize: 1) he was PLAYING WITH MONO and 2) the Bills D is legit. ask Brady.
So I would be a hypocrite if I now proclaimed Sam to be "God" after this one game, but come on let's have some optimism people!! This kid is real good; hopefully great, and hopefully one day AMAZING! it's not like we have had Montana, Marino and Brady as our past QBs!!! I mean the people on here act like Sam has some tough shoes to fill or something!! I know Namath, but that was over 50 years ago, and Sam is closest yet!!

I agree with everything you said except for this. Tru cannot keep up with anyone. The only thing he can still do, and do well, is play zone, tackle and play with a 10yrd cushion- which should only happen on 3rd and forever. I'm hoping Hairston is healthy b/c the Pats will attack Tru with quick slants, pick plays, seam routes, and really any deep routes. And any of their WRs can beat Tru doing that.
I agree. Is it me, or does Tru look like he just doesn't care? He seems to be loafing around, not hustling. what a disappointment.

I'm still worried about their offense, mainly because everyone is saying exactly this.
Everyone is (rightfully) noting that their offense has struggled (by their standards) and looked very pedestrian. But, the Pats have a habit of flipping the script on teams.
Also, despite their "struggles," Brady still managed to throw for 348 yards (with a 66.7 completion %) and 334 yards (with a 75.6 completion %) against the Redskins and Giants, respectively. It's not like they can't move the ball.
I get it, but key words: "Redskins" and "Giants".
Listen, Brady is still Brady, but man - that defense!!! This will be a huge test for Sam!

Sam isn't a rookie, didn't throw it 52 times, and 23/51 =/= 71.9%. Other than that, great article!
on the rookie front, technically you are correct, but he still has not played 16 games yet.....
but yeah, how do these people have jobs with wrong info like that??? I mean 23 of 52 is Off player of the week? haha with less than 50% comp?

I think everyone is piling on Baker right now. I have posted on this topic many a time: I wanted Sam, I'm glad we got Sam, but I was prepared to get Baker in the draft last year. I think his play will come around. I was never one of these people on here last year saying Sam was better than Baker, and I still won't today. that discussion should be tabled for sometime down the road. too small a sample size right now.
But the fact remains: Baker is an a$$hole off the field. and that is something that will never change IMHO. and I think that is why he is being piled on by everyone now. when you mouth off and you do well, people just kind of shrug their shoulders....but when you mouth off and play like he has this year? whew!!! look out!!

wait....he won Offensive Player of the Week? Like for the WHOLE AFC??? But so many people on these forums said he "sucks", "5th best QB taken in 2018 draft", "2nd best QB in town", "let him go and tank for Tua" etc etc etc. how is this possible???
but in all seriousness, well deserved! what a difference a QB makes! Now if we can just get CJ, Herndon, etc maybe we can be somewhat competitive on Monday night.

The most impressive thing about yesterday was how fast the ball was coming out of his hand. From snap to throw he was just whipping it!
Now we saw why Jefferson called him The f*cking dude! Imagine when we get a big #1 WR and fix the Oline. Play off & Sam can go snap to throw instantly. He had one play where he just shifted his feet were almost side by side & he hit Crowder on the move on the money.
The soft toss just dropped into Crowders hands & he's really finding his groove on the back shoulder throw with Robbie. I didn't think Thomas would amount to anything but if he can stay healthy, Herndon returns, he's gonna find himself open a lot. Then Bell will get freed up. He even got Montgomery involved but Dallas is stout within 10 yards of the LOS.
Jets played 5 pretty good defenses. Bills, Browns, Pats, Eagles, Cowboys. Sam would feasted on Eagles secondary. That game would have been interesting. After Pats & Jags, the defenses take a huge drop off.
I always say: "it's not who you play, but when". would have been nice if we could have switched the Philly game with Washington. I think even the Luke Falk Jets could have won that game! Plus that o-fer against the Eagles all time still bothers me. thought this year could have been the year. oh well.

exactly. I can't speak for everyone on here, but I THINK people were expecting this "explosive" offnse from the Jets this year. I remember reading someone on here saying the Jets D will be so awful, but it's ok - our offense will put up 30+ pts per game. so of course you will be disappointed with the week 1 performance. then we find out the Bills have an excellent D, and then you know....the mono....

Sam go Herndon is going to be so reliable and pretty. CJ Mosley’s return is huge for us too.
Im finally excited about Jets football again. I felt like the season was withering away along with my pre-opening day optimism of Sam’s development and the success that follows.
Pats week on MNF with players getting back to work. Wouldn’t want it any other way.
you said it. who woulda thunk it exactly one week ago today right? amazing what a good QB can do for a team! I was at that first game against the Bills....was so excited, and yeah the loss was a killer, but then the whole mono thing....
and then he's out for a month and I don't know about you, but I kind of forgot how good this kid is.
now they gotta go out and prove it against the Pats next week. do I think the Jets can win? doubtful, but I feel a LOT more confident in our chances with Sam back. I'll feel even better if we get Herndon and especially CJ. but the point is: we have hope again. it was like March around here the last few weeks; no football. glad it's back again!

Sound like Gase is much more confident that CJ Mosley can practice this week.
Also optimistic on Herndon, though he said they'll be careful with him.
Hairston, Henry Anderson, and McLendon could also all play vs. New England.
If we get all these guys back, we definitely have a chance.
fingers crossed.

plus, isn't that the week where he had almost 70% completion, 1 passing TD (plus 1 passing 2 pt conversion) and ZERO turnovers, and was the 11th ranked QB in the NFL? oh and he was playing the Bills defense. ask tommy boy about 'em.
oh yeah and he had mono. I love how everyone acted like Sam threw 3 picks in that game or something...

Sam Darnold named AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Well to be clear....I don't think it was "wrong". it was just inconsistent for you. Of course there will always be comparisons between Sam and Baker, Sam and Allen, and now Sam and Jones.
