The biggest aspect is the transition from one scheme to the other.  What we are seeing is an adjustment period still (i know no one wants to hear it but its true), as well as the BIGGEST issue with this defense which is speed.

4-2-5 which is essentially what Saleh and Ulbrich run scheme wise (not a pure one but personnel wise thats how they structure it), requires more team speed especially from the linebackers (big reason why they like their will to be converted safeties who can cover well and run).

Big issues right now is the overall speed of the team is garbage, its getting better but historically the jets have been a slow lumbering team for years.  It was an issue with every defense we've had for the past 10 years in my mind. So while the Dline has done a terrible job reading their run keys and fighting to maintain gap integrity, the LBs are late filling gaps because 1. most of them are JAGs and 2. they are slower.  This leads to wide open lanes.  There are few impact players on this team and even less that play with the speed required to slide and fill gaps in this defense, it will get better with time, but youre going to see a lot of growing pains in the process of getting the right mix of talent in here.

Totally agree. I think the personnel we have isn't being utilized properly either.

I think Mosely has gotten to skinny, which was done as per Saleh's request. Our linebackers have gotten really small, making it impossible for them to take on blocks. Quincy Williams has been the only guy who has been reliable stuffing the run.

Quinnen has the same issue. He's a bit small to play DT. He is talented and strong as hell, but doesn't quite carry the bulk. I believe he should play more edge/DE.

Lastly, our D lineman are not in the optimal position. We are not using our lineman to eat blocks, and letting guards (and occasionally tackles) to move to our linebackers untouched. The Jets are running a pure nose tackle, but don't have the Vince Wilfork/Fletcher Cox type player to take on a guard and center. Instead one lineman is free off the line to chip up to a backer. Playing our d lineman more on the guards (whether it be head up or shaded) will let our smaller linebackers scrape more freely

    -   The Jets enter this game allowing an NFL-high 31.4 points per game. They’ve allowed the most total yards to opposing offenses and are coming off of a game in which they yielded 260 rushing yards to the Colts — 211 of which came before first contact with a Jets defender, according to ESPN statistics.

It was an alarming display and left you to wonder what the deal is with the defense considering that Saleh came here with a defensive background. You’d figure the defense would be ahead of the offense, which has been led by a rookie quarterback, Zach Wilson, and a backup, Mike White, who’d never played an NFL down entering the season.

Unfair to compare anyone to Mike White. He's truly in a class of his own. I'm just glad I can watch his career, can't wait to tell my kids about him

If you want a huge rebuild through the draft, we are gonna need more than 1 player per year on that list.

I don't think that's necessary. Granted I'd like every pick on that list but having one is excellent. Especially if the other guys can get to that point or close to it. Michael Carter 2 has looked really good for a mid-late round corner, but he was still not a coveted prospect. However, getting a starting caliber corner out of that spot is fantastic. Same with Michael Carter 1. Moore has flashed, but in a top heavy WR class he had no chance of making the list. He was the sixth (fact check?) WR off the board after all.

  4. Starting White is the only decision the staff can make. There a few outcomes:

A: White plays his ass off against Buffalo, solidifying his starting job

B: White implodes against a super bowl hopeful, giving the staff an excuse to send the mormon back in

C : Wilson starts against a great Bills team, is rusty and gets smacked around a bit, and the fans want his head on a pike and White to start the rest of the season, putting the 2nd overall pick on thin ice not even through his rookie year

D : White plays meh, and we are back to square one

  5. Mike White should not be allowed to leave Florham Park. He has flashed. Considering our history at QB, we should not let ANY potential QB talent walk in FA. With that being said Wilson is still the future. Hopefully. He was drafted at #2 for a reason, and this regime lives and dies by the mormon.

Without the injury, I feel like the staff would let White play until he inevitably sh*ts the bed, and throw Wilson back in immediately. With a direct comparison it will be easier to make a decision.

It's funny in retrospect that Mayfield, Darnold and Josh Rosen were picked before Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.  Not saying I knew any better (I wanted Sam) but these guys are paid a lot of money to make these picks.

The difference between Baker/Darnold and Lamar/Allen (Rosen was just bad) was coaching. Baker started with terrible coaching and eventually got a good one in Kevin Stefanski, and now he's around average. Darnold was given Bowles and Gase, and he sucked. Allen was awful his first two seasons, but he was in a stable environment with good coaching and the addition of Diggs. Lamar was given Harbaugh, an excellent line, and an entire offense built to his strengths.

  7. The little money I have is on lafleur in the booth. What stood out to me is how static the offense looked weeks 1-7 in contrast to 8/9. In these past two weeks we have seen much more 'interesting' sets and formations. A lot more lateral movement, whether it be pre snap or during the play. In the bengals game the offense seemed much more alive even before the ball was snapped. Much of our success these past two weeks should be attributed to better play design, and Mike White being the messiah.

Mims drops suck this year- agree

But he didn’t have that issue last year.

This clearly is because he knows the CS hates him and he’s in his own head.

another failure by Saleh to “raise the players up”… how did you raise Mims up?

Saleh ruined mims. Needs to be held accountable.

No offense, but you appear to be a moron.

  9. I don't like to make definitive statements on rookies this early but I feel like Moore is different. His skillset is exceptional. Moore is very fast, and more importantly very quick. You can see what I mean on his long reception with 5 minutes left in Q1.

His quickness allows him to stop on a dime and break at the top of his (post?) route, separating from his defender. Players who can separate and get open will always have a place in the NFL. Moore's ability to get open will keep his floor high.

Moore also has good hands. He doesn't drop balls, although his size could make contested catches difficult, which is less than ideal for a slot-like player.

He is also electric with the ball in his hands. His quickness allows him to dodge duck dip dive and dodge defenders at a high level. He can make plays after the catch or with designed touches, like screens, end arounds or jet passes.

In short, Moore is a receiver who can get open and separate, reliably catch, and make plays after the catch. Even if he does not develop, he will be serviceable at worst. Hopefully, he will develop and become a Tyreek Hill - Dante Hall esque weapon.

A 1-5 team shouldn't use draft capital to fix the oline at the deadline. You have to overpay at the deadline for players. You are competing with teams who are desperate for help to win a Super Bowl. The time to fix the oline is in the offseason. Then again, 1-5 teams generally don't trade draft picks for 3rd string QBs........

The rest of the league is playing chess while the Jets play hopscotch

Looked like the ball got on him quicker than he expected. maybe not enough game action? Gotta have it though.

If that's the case Mims might be brain dead. Johnson was in the pocket forever and came to Mims late. Have to anticipate the football on 3rd down in the end zone.

Do we have to trade away everyone who has any value for mid round picks again? Why not keep the players, and, ya know, try to win some football games?

We don't need defense. Mike White is averaging 400 yards and 3 touchdowns. You can't stop him, only hope to contain him.

  13. I'm optimistic this week, but I think Atlanta's a better football team. Our offense is still bad. 16 late points in week 1, barely any against NE and Denver, and 27 against TEN. We still looked poor in the first half last week against a weak defense. Wilson heroics saved us, but we were not lights out in the second half. I'd say Tennessee and Atlanta have comparable defenses. I'm not too worried about our defense, but mismatches with Pitts and Patterson could lead to several big plays. I'm expecting a game similar to the Giants-Falcons game. Lower scoring and close, unless Wilson decides he wants to single handedly score our points.
