Who's arguing otherwise? Except for the unnecessary "waddle" thrown in for spite. I have no problem with criticism of performance on the field, and there was no doubt that Becton struggled both in training camp and in his brief stint on the field. Or that his performance may cost him his job. Fair enough. All the other ugly BS that internet tough guys lob like they were back in junior high school is a waste of breath and speaks poorly of them as people. And I wasn't aware that someone's income, whether too high or too low, is justification for bitter vitriol. Again, that says more about the speaker than whom they are speaking about.

"spite"  "bitter vitriol" "back in Junior high school"

I'm guessing you never played organized sports or worked in a competitive environment.  If you are triggered by "waddle" you'd be dead after a few weeks of what others shoulder most every day.

I'm sorry If I wounded your inner child.

  2. I wank Ickey and Sauce.

Been saying since the end of the college season that those are the two best players in the daft.  # 1 and # 2 on my big board.

Sadly for the Jets, Ickey will be gone by # 4.  All the GM's know Ickey is the quality of the draft.  Jags probably gone to take him first over all.  If not, Texans going to take him at 3.

So... The Jets will have to settle for Evan Neal at 4 and HOPE Sauce sticks around until ten.

BUT.... If JD sees what I see, don't be surprised if Sauce is the pick at #4 if Ickey is already gone.

He's in many ways still a kid. You seem like an empathic, mature sort of fellow. I'm sure you can find it in your pea-sized soul to be a bit more tolerant and less of a tough guy. Ironically, I'm beginning to like Becton more for his sincerity. I hope he finds his a way to build on the promise he showed as a rookie.

And how much does that "kid" get paid ??? I'm guessing that the people who post in here work for a living.  And for most, it is not a multi million dollar pay check either.  If we don't perform on our jobs, the rent/mortgage does not get paid, food does not go on the table, kids don't get college money, etc...  Our employers wont give us the type of sympathy that you think should be given to a "kid" making millions.  The pink slip would be issued to us hard and cold.  We all know how the world works.  Be valuable, or you'll be gone.

    Same deal for Big Ticket.

    Hump or hit the bricks.

At least he'd waddle away with a few million in his pocket.

  4. I never said I hated him.  I don't know him.  I said he has to graduate kindergarten before he can move on to other things like being a dependable and productive employee of the NY Jets.

    This was a wasted pick.

I want Ickey.  Sadly, I'm sure I'm not the only one that realizes he is the best player in the draft,  It may very well be that the Lions take him at 2 or the Texans take him at 3.  That would leave Evan Neal for the Jets at 4.

I WANT Ickey, but I know those other teams out there aint blind.

Literally no one has said this not sure why your trying to peg him as a  headcase.

In fact from jd to saleh to duke have all  said Becton been working hard so far this off-season.  Jets might still take icky . But im not 100% sold  he is  Becton’s replacement especially if plays like we know he can. Fant wants a huge deal.

Not suggesting a personalty disorder or psychosis.  Maturity issues go hand in hand with commitment issues.  Didn't you ever hear anyone say that "his/her head just isn't in the game"???

And for what the coaches are saying.  You know how that goes.

Let's see what goes on draft day.

I promise I wont say "I told you so" if they drafty Ickey.

If we draft Icky, I would bet a Becton trade happens soon after. You could have all 3 compete for the 2 jobs, but I would guess JD would prefer to have more draft capital to play with. He also doesn't want to have to trade Becton AFTER he gets benched for Fant/Icky.

I WANT Icky.  He's been my pick all along.  Becton's head is gone. Or more to the point, was never there to begin with.  Icky is the best player in the draft. There is NO Becton.  Not only does Icky have the physical tools, he is a major character/leadership pick.  This is a football player.  A player that will be part of your teams core foundation in every way.  THIS would be the type of player Mangini would pick.  NEVER EVER let a player like this get away.  I also feel the same way about Sauce, but I would not take him at 4, as I would Icky.

If JD wants to show me that he's *got it*, he will do so with the Icky pick at number four.  A bonus would be a man's admission of a mistake with the trade of Becton.

If he manages to get Icky and Sauce, I will build a JD shrine on my front lawn.

Ahh...  Pardon.  I had your point backwards. My bad.  Yes.  Bengals a good example of lots of skill guys and poor offensive line.

I am not giving up on Becton after just two seasons.  Unless all of the premium rushers are gone, I am not taking OL at 4.   If anything I would try and trade down if possible.

I dig.  And you may very well have the right idea.  I will own up to it if Becton works out the way we hoped, but I dont see that happening.

We already have a generational talent in Becton -

BECTON ?!?!?!?! You've got to be kidding me.  The paperwork has not been done yet, but Becton has already been written off..  His body can't stay on the field and his head is still in kindergarten.  There is no Becton.

After signing Tomlinson this would be an incredibly stupid move.

By your reasoning, it would be an "incredibly stupid move" to draft Nick Mangold or Anthony Munoz if you already had a center and a tackle with a pulse.

You don't want a decent OT or offensive line.  You want an elite offensive line every year, and should always be drafting to ensure that you NEVER wind up transitioning from an elite offensive line to an average offensive line.

If you have a brain and understand the NFL's rules and the goal of those rules, you dont stop looking for a franchise QB until you are positive you have one, even if it means drafting a QB two years after you had spent a first round pick on a QB, and you never stop drafting and developing offensive lineman.   You can get interior linemen in rounds two three and four that can be developed into pro bowl guys, but rarely do you get an elite OT anywhere other than the 1st round or FA.  Economy should compel a GM to draft what very much looks like an elite LT if you dont already have one.  EVEN if you already have a warm body or two.

Never, ever settle for less than the best for the QB and the offensive line.

Yes but that would also be the argument for taking Ekwonu. Says Jets take Ekwonu. Let Fant, Becton, and Ekwonu battle it out. Fant on last year, so if Becton does well you can look at Fant maybe as a mid year trade or just keep him as depth. If Becton still has issues maybe you extend Fant and trade Becton. If we don't take OT and Becton busts we have nothing at tackle. Ekwonu at 4 if he is there makes a ton of sense. Most Jets fans will hate it.

Not just a matter of need matching a good player available.  Ekwonu is the type of player who has the intangibles to be a leader.  Not only will he anchor the line, he'll help anchor the team.

Ekwonu and Sauce would be Mangini draft picks.  Like Brick, Mangold and Revis.

Whose making plays on this team besides elijah moore?

If they go into the season thinking Becton is their LT, the ones making the big plays will be the DE's and LB's of the opposing defense.

A good offensive line makes an average set of skill position players on the offense work well.

An offense with elite skill players and a poor offensive line is going to struggle.

Agree 100%. Can't trust big Becton to stay healthy and Fant is good (and should be extended).  But Fant can't be considered a "difference maker" or "dominant LT". Can definitely upgrade.

Not solidifying our Tackles could be disasterous for the Jets (especially for our QB).

Soooooooo glad to see others understand this.

It really would suck if we have to invest another premium pick at #4 in another tackle. Especially when JD found a quality player in FA like Fant. This position shouldn't be an issue for us. Not good.

it would suck far worse if they dont.  LT second most important position on the team, and the jets should have a good one.  becton is not going to work out

Giants and Seahawks need CB play

They also have other needs and their are much more highly rated players on the board for them.

Considering the landscape, I see the Panthers as the only team in the marker for Sauce before the Jets are up at 10

Lets hope the Panthers offer CB Gilmore the money he wants.  News is now, Raider are going to break the bank to get him.

There is also a chance that the Panthers make a trade or move of that spot.

I want Ekwonu and I want Sauce.

    I want both

    Sauce won’t last until 10.

I'm note sure of that.  The only team I see in line for Sauce above pick ten is the Panthers.  They may yet resign their CB or perhaps be convinced that they would be better off with the more athletically gifted Stingley.

  17. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2022-nfl-mock-draft-how-a-deshaun-watson-trade-could-impact-each-team-involved-jets-support-zach-wilson/

I LOVE this mock draft.  Can you guess why ???

"New York continues filling out its offensive line with the selection of Ekwonu. There is a lot of talk that the Jets are very interested in Ekwonu and that suggests they may already be done with Mekhi Becton, who has started 14 games total over the last two seasons"

I SURE AS HELL hope this is as accurate of a take as it should be.

I WANT Ekwonu.  He's going to be a perennial ProBowler.  He's got the measurables and PLENTY of the intangibles.  Already a leader and grown up.

Dream draft.  Ekwonu at 4, Sauce at 10

If the Panthers pass on Sauce, he may very well wind up with the Jets.

If they manage that, combined with the FA that JD just had, even *I* would be excited again.
