the point of free agency is to sign guys who fill in needs and could be possibly upgrades. very rarely do teams make extreme leaps by free agency. Joey D is plugging in holes with capable players on team friendly contracts so he can focus on drafting building blocks. the guys we signed were better than the guys we had. what's not to like?

scheme is more important than personnel, one or two players wouldn't fix much immediately. but it is telling that JD can't get any of these players who would be instant upgrades

JD probably picks up a few utility free agents for really cheap deals and attempts to fill in most of our holes through the draft. Teams still in rebuild mode so a splash isn't quite a necessity.
