Good move. Hate losing Moss, I realy do......but the bottom line is that Moss was going to be a huge $$$ deal, that the jets didn't g=feel was warranted
Remember when he took a 3 week vacation last year?

Yeah I like this deal. We would have lost Moss anyway. He wants number one money and is far from worth it.

This is kinda what I meant by my earlier post but worded it wrong. IMO, between Barron, Terry, Loper, and Munoz. There is pretty equal value from the late first to the 3rd round. All of them have a question mark. But all of them have good LT potential as well, jmho.

The only problem I would have with taking a OT in the first round is that the draft is so deep at that position you may be able to get the same value in the 2nd or even 3rd round. DT is a different story though. I think the Jets would need to trade up to get an impact one of those.

imo, Vincent from the Steelers is a free agent and a much better lineman. He is 25 and can play both guard spots. He is also 6'5" 338. Ross stunk up until last year in which he was average.

If the Chiefs don't have the cap room, why are they even bothering to invite players like Rolle in for visits?
Idk, in hopes of seeing if they could talk them down in terms of dollars? I saw a report that the chiefs were having Priest and other players meet Rolle and other free agents to try and persuade them into signing with the chiefs. Look the facts are the chiefs have no cap room and have yet to close the deal with anybody.

Don't you find it strange that people haven't been beating down his door like they have been with Smoot?
Law not drawing as much interest has a lot to do with the age difference between him and smoot. He is also scheduled to meet with the Bills tomorrow I believe. Look the bottom line here is the chiefs have no cap room. That is why they didn't sign Law or Trotter for that matter.

Really, really nice job on those fish. My only hobby is collecting football cards. All hobbies are dorky imo but they keep us occupied and make us happy. Again, great job!

Are you kidding? The chiefs couldn't even lock up Trotter. They have 2.5 million in cap space and have yet to improve thier team at all, and probably won't all offseason. Chiefs are really not a great example here.

The Jets said goodbye to another key free agent Friday, welcomed two acquisitions, signed a third player to an offer sheet and began negotiations with what could be the biggest catch of all.
Care to have three-time Super Bowl-winning cornerback Ty Law on your team?
The Jets are talking with the former Patriots cornerback, two sources have told Newsday. Law, 31, was released last week in a salary-cap move and is on the open market.
Law, who spoke with team officials Thursday, suffered a fractured foot Oct. 31 against the Steelers and missed the rest of the season, including Super Bowl XXXIX. He is not completely healthy, which could factor into how much the Jets are willing to offer in a contract. At full strength, Law is one of the league's premier cover corners.
If Law were to sign, it could impact veteran Donnie Abraham, who joined the team as an unrestricted free agent from Tampa Bay in 2002. Abraham fell out of favor with the Jets' coaching staff near the end of last season.
Law, the Patriots' first-round pick in 1995, tied Raymond Clayborn's franchise record with 36 career interceptions. He is a four-time Pro Bowl selection, including three straight from 2001-2003.
The Jets also are continuing their efforts to complete a trade for Redskins receiver Laveranues Coles, the former Jet who was signed by Washington in 2003 as a restricted free agent. The only remaining hangup is working out a contract for Coles, who is being asked to forfeit $5 million of the $13-million signing bonus he received from the Redskins. The Jets would trade fourth-year receiver Santana Moss if and when Coles agrees to a contract offer.
Meanwhile, the Jets signed tight end Jeb Putzier, a restricted free agent from the Broncos, to a five-year, $12-million offer sheet. The Broncos have seven days to match the offer. If they let him go, the Jets will forfeit a sixth-round pick in next month's draft. Putzier had 36 catches for 572 yards and two touchdowns last season.
The Jets declined to compete with the Giants' megabucks offer for offensive tackle Kareem McKenzie, who signed a seven-year, $37.8-million deal Friday. The Jets have no immediate plans to sign a replacement for McKenzie -- former Titans right tackle Fred Miller is available -- and might select a tackle in a draft that is considered very deep at the position.
The Jets have filled two other needs by signing backup running back Derrick Blaylock, an unrestricted free agent from the Chiefs, and Giants defensive tackle Lance Legree, who will figure into the defensive line rotation.
"I'm very excited to be with the Jets," said Blaylock, a backup in Kansas City to Priest Holmes. "I got a good feeling from the organization. I think I can contribute."
Blaylock hopes to carry the ball as many as 15 times a game, although workhorse running back Curtis Martin, who won the NFL rushing title last year, still figures to handle the bulk of the running game.
On Thursday, the Jets lost defensive tackle Jason Ferguson to the Cowboys and backup running back LaMont Jordan to the Raiders.

DT is probably the toughest position to fill well - there's alot of TRASH out there...
I don't think that is really fair. I mean Mc-snor-ton had a reputation for being lazy. I've never heard that about pryce. From everything I've heard he is a hard worker. McGlockton was notoriously lazy everywhere he went. Pryce could also play 3-4 DE very well imo if the Jets wanted to play more multiple fronts next year.

Bringing Burress in would be great and I think that a coach like dinger can get the most out of him. I'm just wonder what he is looking for in terms of dollars.

I do he would be an awsome addition! Very big and athletic defensive lineman. Played OLB in college actually next to levon kirkland for a year or two i think. Converted to defensive end and then tackle. He is a beast in the middle. Great idea!

Good point. Smoot and Law are going to get that $15 mil signing bonus, it looks like. The question is, do we give it to them?

I think every department these days are viewed as burdens. The accounting department I work in surely gets treated like that.
Boozer I can relate from putting in so much overtime and never getting out of the office. You would be shocked at how common stress related problems are for people our age. And people get pissed at Ricky Williams. go figure.........

Given that all parties involved seem to want the trade to happen, the much-discussed swap that would send disgruntled Washington Redskins wideout Laveranues Coles to the New York Jets for wide receiver Santana Moss figures to be completed. Eventually. But there are still miles to go on a deal that has been simmering on the stove for more than a week and which could take another week before it's soup. Coles remains the sticking point because he wants more money added to the remaining five seasons of the seven-year contract he signed with Washington in 2003, enough to raise compensation over the next three years to $15 million. New York is making progress but not nearly as much as the breathless Big Apple media, which treat every phone call between the Jets and agent Roosevelt Barnes as if it were the Yalta summit, would have one believe. There were reports Thursday, for instance, of a meeting between Barnes and Jets officials. In truth, the meeting was a 10-minute telephone conversation with assistant general manager Mike Tannenbaum in which there was only incremental progress, if that. "Status quo," Barnes told ESPN.com. "We're not doing this thing until the numbers are right. [Coles] will stay with the Redskins if that's what it comes down to." But it won't come down to that. The Redskins were desperate Wednesday to learn the financial particulars of the contract that wide receiver Derrick Mason signed in Baltimore that day. So why were they scrambling for that information? Because once the trade is completed, the 'Skins will extend Moss' contract (he is entering the final year of his current deal), and they wanted a reference point. New York has mentally already dealt Moss away, or so it seems, since no team official has even phoned him during the trade discussions to apprise him of what has transpired or what might occur. Said agent Drew Rosenhaus: "I've got a client who is in limbo. I keep telling him, 'Hey, you're a Washington Jet.' He laughs at that but, really, he'd just as soon have this thing get finished." Frankly, it's difficult to see how the Jets could expect Moss to return to the team as a happy camper, since they've made it clear they prefer Coles to him. Finally, there is the matter of public relations, of which Jets brass always seems to be keenly aware. Jets fans have perceived this as a tough week, with the free agency defections of starting defensive tackle Jason Ferguson (to Dallas) and prized backup tailback LaMont Jordan (to Oakland), and won't be easily assuaged by the Thursday signing of tailback Derrick Blaylock of Kansas City. Recent history is that the Jets normally react to fan wrath by making a big deal that quiets the masses. So look for the Moss-Coles trade to be completed, although perhaps not quickly.

Punts: Stung by the loss of defensive tackle Jason Ferguson to Dallas, and desperate to replace him, the Jets might consider some restricted free agent candidates. Toward that end, ESPN.com has confirmed New York will meet with Seattle defensive tackle Rocky Bernard in the next few days. -

It sounds like based on this article the Jets gave coles 8 million upfront (8+13=21). That doesn't mean it was a bad move though. The Jets could be pushing money to the back of the contract in order to make one more big move.
