  1. Man, this stuff never ends....
  2. Welcome back, Shane I think things are overstated with Pete Kendell situation. In retrospect, the FO did the right thing. Letting Kendell go meant us signing Faneca this off season. Revis held out and broke Tannenbaum's streak of signing first round picks and having them report to camp on time, without missing any days, but when it was all said and done, the bastard signed and signed the deal we wanted(extra year). In the long run, it sent a serious message; this FO will not cave. Hold out and we'll ship you off. Kendell later remarked that he never thought the team would trade him, and that he wanted to stay. Why aren't we reading about Coles holding out? He made his play, but ultimately knew he wasn't getting a new deal. It also sent a message to Rhodes. This team is relatively young and the majority of our important pieces are signed to long term deals, so no, I don't expect any bitching and moaning. Ellis, Faneca, Cotchery, Washington, Harris, Revis, Brick, Mangold, Jenkins, Pace and others have deals in place. I'd also say that this team is still being overhauled, so I'd expect more heads to roll. Rhodes is the only guy I'm worried about, but this franchise under this new leadership has proved that they can and will get deals done for the guys they highly value. I think to much is being made of it. Not a big deal.
  3. I guarantee, come June, that as soon as the Jets cut D Rob, Cincy and or Denver come running. D Rob will have no choice but to lower his contract demands and some team will sign him on the cheap, to lessen any risk from his knees.
  4. If he betrayed anyone, it was Miami. Senior Seau announced his retirement from football, only to "unretire" a short while later and sign with New England.
  5. I know he used to live in my father's neighborhood in Baldwin(South Shore, LI).
  6. Guys, let's stop the bull****. This has nothing to do, at least from my perspective, on Chad's arm strength or lack therof. It has everything to do with his ability to remain healthy. Chad held plenty of promise. We all remember those highlight reels of Chad throwing deep to Randy Moss. We remember how he saved our season and Herm's ass in 2002, with inspired play, and we remember our hopes being destroyed in a preseason game vs. the Giants. I love Chad, but he cannot stay healthy. Some of you know that I was born in Chicago and raised a Bears fan, so I speak from experience when I tell you I know how you feel. Mike Brown is a tremendous safety. He has all the tools, whether it be run stuffing or ball hawking, but the man's body has betrayed him again this season. Do I hate him? No, I feel sorry for him and for my team. Enough of this. We saw the same from Jon Mgraw and there are plenty of other examples throughout sports. I hope Chad heals up, but we cannot depend on him. Chad's body has betrayed him time and again and we, as a team cannot afford to pin our hopes on him recovering and leading us to the promised land.
  7. Brady is the Anti Christ. In college, as a fan and alum, I never really saw anything special from Brady at Michigan. Ho hum. He's Joe Cool all over again. Put him on my Bears, and the Lombardi's would stack up like flapjacks. Brady is special, and Bit made a great point; we're basically the Knicks trying to beat Michael Jordan's Bulls.
  8. AGREED. Everyone wants to make it a point that the defense did not gameplan, or the offense did not gameplan, which I counter with "did the Giants gameplan"? The offense I'll cut some slack, since the Giants sent wave after wave of blitzers, but on the defensive side of the ball, the Jets continue to look soft against the run. I watched the Niners play Chicago and both teams looked solid against the run. No, there was no gameplanning on either side. For the Niners, I watched their NT, Sopoaga hold his own against arguably the best center in football, Olin Kruetz, while their linebackers completely swarmed to the ball, limiting Benson to 30 some odd yards on 19 carries. Sure, it's preseason, BUT this is still the NFL, and you must line up opposite someone and beat them. D Rob can't do that consistently enough, nor can our linebackers. Face it. If this team can't get enough pressure from up front, Mangini will have no choice but to blitz.
  9. It could backfire, but so far, this mentality has not hurt the Eagles. Remember the TO situation? Now, I know his situation was far more tenuous and extreme, BUT it was somewhat similar to ours. Bryan Westbrook was also seeking a new deal at the time and he had held out until early July, when his agent had realized he made a mistake and advised Westbrook to report. Shortly after reporting, Westbrook received the big contract he hoped for, while TO got nothing. This move was not only good for the team, but it was also an in your face move to TO. Philly has since signed Montae Reagor, Bethel Johnson, Kevin Curtis, Darren Howard, Jeff Garcia(signed with Tampa in off season), etc. They also managed to re sign several of their own players, including Jon Runyan. It really comes down to players wanting to get paid, and wanting to win. The Jets have shown the money to their own players, and FA, and I think another winning season could go a long way towards players wanting to sign. I also follow the Bears, and I could tell you that the Lance Briggs issue could have rubbed players the wrong way. Trading Thomas Jones also didn't help. The Bears notorious cheap label only made things appear worse, especially with the hard time they gave Lovie Smith. Alex Brown also requesting a new deal did not help BUT, Chicago was not only able to lock up their starting corners, they also made a deal for Darwin Walker and gave him a big contract. Adam Archuleta was ecstatic at being traded to Chicago. What I saying is that I think this stuff is often overrated. If the Jets win, players will want to come here.
  10. It's nice and promising that Nugent hit a 60 yarder in practice, but the guy just can't seem to hit his kick off deep consistently. For all the talk about him doing extensive exercises for his legs, weight training, etc Nugent still hit the ball poorly on Friday night vs. Atlanta. Unless he can force teams to field the ball deep in their endzone or hit more touchbacks, it will only put more pressure on this defense.
  11. Most people "forget" that our O line just improved, simply because of the addition of Thomas Jones. With the added threat of a running attack, Chad's play action fake will now be even better. It now keeps a linebacker or safety honest, as opposed to blitzing. Thoams Jones is an excellent blocker.
  12. I added Dwayne Jarrett from USC. There were some other players I could have selected, but imho, the Bears need to add another wideout to group that is good, but in need of attention. Bernard Berrian stepped up big time last year, but Muhammad is old and doesn't have much time left. I really like Mark Bradley from Oklahoma, but he has had injury issues and is now one year removed from ACL surgery. Jarret could step in right away and contribute immediately. Great hands, size, etc he will be groomed to replace MM.
  13. I went ahead and selected Ben Grubbs, OG. I think he'd be an excellent player for Chicago and fills a serious need. I really wanted Olsen, and thought he'd drop down to me, but I'd be happy with Grubbs.
  14. Thanks Faba. Didn't realize Olsen was selected. Sorry. Will have my pick in a sec...
  15. So a week has come and gone and we're still in round one? Jesus H Christ. I'll keep an eye out for my turn, but if it doesn't come around, I'll be gone until Monday. Wouldn't be surprised if Monday comes and my turn hasn't come up
  16. Most of the mocks I've seen have Grubbs going to Chicago. I think it would be a great pick for them, especially since that offensive line is showing some serious age. Ruben Brown did resign for one year, but they will need a replacement, and Grubbs would be perfect. Bears fans were killing the team over the Thomas Jones trade, but, if the Bears were able to land Olsen at 31(IF Carolina doesn't nab him first), then Grubbs at #37, then I think people would be at ease.
  17. I'm not sure if this was already posted, but the Dolphins schedule has already been leaked. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-dolsked07,0,1157702.story?coll=sfla-sports-front The Dolphins will begin the season Sept. 9 at Washington before playing their first home game Sept. 16 against Dallas. The Dolphins other home games are against Oakland (Sept. 30), New England (Oct. 21), Buffalo (Nov. 11), the New York Jets (Dec. 2), Baltimore (Dec. 16) and Cincinnati (Dec. 30). The Dolphins' Oct. 28 home game against the New York Giants will be played in London at Wembley Stadium. The other road games are against the Jets (Sept. 23), Houston (Oct. 7), Cleveland (Oct. 14), Philadelphia (Nov. 18), Buffalo (Dec. 9) and New England (Dec. 23).
  18. The Bears. I think some on this board know that I follow Chicago. I was born there and my sister still lives there.
  19. Ok, I thought this thing was well under way, but I see that I'm in time. Was in a meeting. I'll be here.
  20. I've said it to my friends here in Miami that are Dolphins fans. I would love for the Jets to pick him up. McMichael has excellent speed, can make the difficult, acrobatic catch, and is also a good blocker. While he does drop his share of passes, I think Chad Pennington, as accurate a passer as he is, can help improve that. Last year, Culpepper was still not 100% from his knee surgery and McMichael's game was affected. He could no longer run the routes he was accustomed to, and was used more and more as a blocker. In NY, McMichael could help Chad, who has never had a good tight end, and the addition of Thomas Jones also helps in blitz pickups. If McMichael is not picked up by NY, I'd love for the Bears to get him. Save a draft pick for the offensive line and fill in other spots.
  21. Uh, somehow I doubt this. I bet it's Manning (no, not Eli:)) I was in a Game Stop the other day, here in Miami, buying some used games, when I happened to see a pre-order special for Madden '08. On the cover was none other than Peyton Manning. I think his Superbowl win only sealed the deal.
