I think it's also important to keep in mind this was the covid year so no combine and no in-person visits. Could be why the 2020 draft looks so different from our last 2.

They had the combine in 2020. Which is why he shut up boards. He also failed a drug test which could have been PED’s. Don’t think it was ever revealed what it was

I think weight is relative to your height  and frame, not what position you play. I'm just saying things are bad enough without making things up. Everyone should have been rooting for Becton to recover. I think this is horrible and a major step backwards for the team.

He never recovered because he never lost the weight.

The only people who have commented  on Bectons weight are the media and people on this forum. I can't  think of a thing the Jets ever said as an organization  that related to his weight, even when everyone knew he got out of shape last season.

I appreciate you fighting this fight. But come on now. You can’t play offensive line over 350lbs and expect to remain healthy.

I think the point is it sounds very similar to last years injury? I don’t know, I do just know it’s likely Becton will never amount to the decade long starter we drafted  him to be, Shame.

The Jets felt last years injury was weight related too if I recall.

If there's a failure on Becton, it's on two fronts:

    1. Not recognizing his problems and drafting him expecting him to be something different.

    2. After that 2nd injury.. any sort of plan that involved counting on him in any way. The plan did seem to be Becton starting at RT which is a big whiff. It's been obvious that counting on him for 17 games would be an issue. He should have been relegated to "not part of the plan, but if he gets it together then ok, awesome."

There is no fault on the training/coaching staff that he has not performed and been injured. This is not a "he was coached poorly" or not given appropriate support.

Everything is underscored by him not being in shape. Carrying around that much weight was always going to be a ticking time bomb for an injury.

Theres like 50 things the Jets could have done to prevent this.

Mainly... leave him on the PUP until he got his weight and overall physique completely under control.

Was that ever going to happen? He had all off-season and didn’t bother coming to the facility once until money was on the line.

I think a lot of it is misplaced anger

the Becton injuries are just another example of something that happens to this franchise over and over again for whatever reason

I don’t think this is one of those cases. The Jets didn’t do their homework in the predraft on him. How they ended up on him over Wirfs or Lamb…well Douglas should share his notes.

The Jets found the football version of Kristaps Porzingis. Too big and too fragile. I've been positive and patient with Becton but I would not be surprised if he never plays another down for us.

I mentioned in the scrimmage thread that Becton looked like he couldn't even move during warm-ups and stretching. He was either not healthy or not in shape or simply lazy. I don't know, but it stood out to me.

If he was laboring that badly in warmups an injury was inevitable. Impossible to compete if you’re that out of shape.

I hear you, Matt.  I just don't believe we ever got the real story, no matter what they tell fans and the media.

I dont believe we’ve ever gotten the true story on how high maintenance this player truly is either/

Bottom line for me is that from the time of his injury the team has obfuscated WTF was actually going on with Becton.  No way he was ready if that's the knee's reaction off a simple play from scrimmage.   That knee was blown apart more than they ever let on.  Now, Becton gets all the grief from us fans instead of JD, Saleh and the team in general.

It wasn’t though. He had an arthoscopic clean up. Granted he’s huge but this was not a major deal injury. Mahomes came back in what 4 weeks or so?

I don't think it's a victory lap or celebrating injury.   Like lots of us who questioned Becton, it would be nice for some folks to just admit they were wrong about the guy.

Playing through some minor uncomfort was basically what Saleh told him he had to do. He made it this far, which was somewhat surprising. He either bounces back quickly and says he’s good or he doesn’t and the Jets have a decision to make.

Thats malpractice they even kept him in there. They should’ve pulled him as soon as they saw him limping around like that

Bectons the type of player who coaches roll their eyes at when he’s limping. I can tell you for a fact they didnt think he was hurt.

Becton the prophet with those "big bust" t-shirts

What an awful pick by Joe Douglas.

Could have gone for the solid 3-run double into the gap with Wirfs.

Instead tried to swing out of his shoes for a grand slam.

    Lamb on the board too.
