He also gave the Dolphins an 'F---------' for firing him with this to say:
    "Dolphins fire HC Adam Gase: F- - - - - - - - - - - - Grade
    Wow. WOW. WOW!!!!!!!! I can't. I just. I just can't.

Look, I knew that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was a complete buffoon like the rest of you, but I didn't realize that he was capable of this level of stupidity. Ross may have just cemented himself as one of the worst owners in not just the NFL, but the history of sports.

When Ross hired Gase three years ago, he called Gase the "next Bill Belichick." Let's analyze what transpired in those three years:

2016: Led the Dolphins to the playoffs despite them being quarterbacked by Ryan Tannehill.

2017: Saw the season derailed by Tannehill's preseason injury. Jay Cutler buried the team, yet Miami was oddly competitive in several games, finishing 6-10.

2018: Had the Dolphins in playoff contention late in the year despite the team being quarterbacked by Tannehill. The playoff hopes ended when Tannehill suffered an injury in the second quarter against the Patriots. Tannehill was never the same after that.

Why on Earth would you fire a head coach you thought was the next Belichick who had the team competitive for a playoff spot in both years he had his starting quarterback available!? Why in the world would you not allow the "next Bill Belichick" to have a chance to coach a team with a quarterback better than Tannehill!? The previous regime signed Tannehill to a 6-year, $95.2 million contract. Why was it Gase's fault he was stricken with a pedestrian starting quarterback all of these years!?

This is such an insanely stupid decision. I imagine the other NFL teams are laughing at Ross and the Dolphins right now. In fact, teams are already hurrying to schedule interviews with Gase. It sounds like the Browns are highly interested in hiring Gase, and doing so would be a terrific move. I can't wait to see Gase coach up Baker Mayfield. And he'll be able to do so because Ross is one of the worst sports owners anyone has ever seen. "

Jets hire HC Adam Gase: A+ Grade
This is the best hire of this offseason. Adam Gase, once called the "next Bill Belichick" by Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, coached two of three seasons in Miami with his starting quarterback healthy. In those two seasons, Gase took the Dolphins took the playoffs once and had them in postseason contention in the other before Ryan Tannehill got banged up during a victory against the Patriots and was never the same after that. Tannehill, by the way, was one of the worst starters at his position in the NFL. It was quite amazing and impressive that Gase was able to keep the Dolphins in contention despite not having a viable quarterback.

This won't be a problem with the Jets. Gase will be able to coach Sam Darnold. This seems like a great fit. Gase has coached up bad quarterbacks to play well, and average quarterbacks to perform on a somewhat high level.

Gase will be able to help Darnold take the next step. This is a fantastic hire, fully worthy of an A+

Positiveness welcome! I'll go over why this isn't a bad move. Mostly I just want to feel better about this so let me do this. Apologies if this is a stupid thread and my 2nd of the day.
We asked for a season Offensive guy, even though hes not exactly what we had in kind he fits the bill.
Posted a respectable record as Miamis HC and easily overperformed with what he was given. When his QB situation was good he made the playoffs.
He was the OC responsible for a career year from Jay Cutler, Tanne and the greatest season ever by a QB from Peyton in 2013 (they give him credit too). Also the most points scored in NFL history in a single season from the Broncos that year.
Ultimately the decision seems to have come down to Darnold and his future. Which is far and away the most important thing. He definitely fits the bill of a QB guy.
Not the best move overall but not the worst thing we could've done. His QB track record gives some promise for the future.

Winning cures a lot of ills. If Free Agents believe that the Darnold/Gase combo is a winning combo and, perhaps most importantly, the Jets come up with the money, they'll sign here.

Manning had his best season, at age 37, under Gase with nearly 5500 yards and 55 TDs.
The Broncos won the Super Bowl the year after Gase left, but Manning had dropped off significantly from the previous year and promptly retired.

Not sure why people keep saying that when McCarthy wanted to come here, Gase obviously did and Rhule would've been here had Mac been willing to let him fill out his staff.
Stick to your Johnsons are cheap narrative, this one is verifiable  false. (at least this offseason)

    About right.
The roster will be gutting itself. There are only about 30 players under contract for 2019. That's why the giddiness of over $100M in cap room has always been way overblown. They have an entire roster to fill out with that money.

Saw this on PFT. As a guy coming from the defensive side of the ball, I can see why the OC would be a sticking point. I wanted a coach in favor of putting up a lot of points. That's where this league is at now.
Report: Offensive coordinator choice was issue for Matt Rhule with Jets
Posted by Josh Alper on January 10, 2019, 8:15 AM EST Getty Images Shortly before word broke that Adam Gase will be the new head coach of the Jets, there were multiple reports that Matt Rhule would remain the head coach at Baylor.
The two developments were not unrelated. The Jets interviewed Rhule and the reports of his return were accompanied by a report that talks about him moving to the Jets fell apart because of disagreements about the coaching staff that Rhule would put in place.
Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Rhule’s choice for offensive coordinator was a particular sticking point. There’s no word on who Rhule had targeted for the job beyond that it is a current NFL assistant. Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports that former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken was floated as an option by the Jets. Monken also interviewed for the head coaching job.
Given the importance of developing quarterback Sam Darnold to the Jets’ future, it’s easy to understand the weight they’d place on the choice of offensive coordinator. It’s also easy to understand why a head coach would balk at not having the assistants that he feels are necessary for success and it all adds up to that responsibility falling on Gase and his assistants.

It’s not about wins for me in the short term.  This coaching decision is all about developing Darnold.
So long as we responsibly allocate our cap and draft (haha, Macc), I expect Darnold to pass for 4,500 yards, 30 TD’s and have a 2:1 TD to INT ratio next year.  If that is accomplished, Gase will have been a good hire.
