  1. Heard last night that ATL has lost 2 games this year where they eventually held a 98%+ win percentage during the games. There's no way they can keep that up so hopefully they fall out of contention for the #1.
  2. I would much rather have the Pats success be definitively due to Brady than I would for BB. Bill can go suck an ass.
  3. Again, Elway had leverage because not only was he drafted into the MLB but he was drafted by the Yankees. There was a very real chance that he could have chosen to go that route. Eli didn't want to play for the Chargers because back then there was no rookie pay scale and picks had to negotiate with the teams to come to terms on their first contracts. The Chargers owners were notorious for not wanting to pay market rate and the Manning's felt they couldn't get the deal that Eli was worth. It had nothing to do with the play of the team or the other players, it was strictly money motivated. Their fears played out because Rivers had to hold out for more than half of camp in order to get a deal signed. That's why Brees started the season. So bottom line is that the BIG 2 examples that people like to recall in the last 40 years have situations that don't exist currently. Last I checked Lawrence wasn't drafted by the Yankees, and with the Rookie pay scale, Trevor doesn't have to worry about getting paid. There is a reason that these things haven't happened since Eli, step off the ledge people.
  4. Becton, Perine and Mims having good games so far. So much for the JD hasn’t done anything crowd. Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app
  5. Elway had a backup plan in baseball. As Connor Hughes said on his podcast, even the Eli situation isn't the same. Eli didn't want to play for the Chargers because back then we didn't have a rookie pay scale and draft picks negotiated directly with the teams that drafted them. Archie and Eli felt that the Chargers couldn't pay them what they felt he deserved because they were notoriously cheap owners. This played out with Rivers because he had to hold out more than half of the preseason in order to get what he deserved and that is why they started off the season with Brees as the starter. So in the last 40 years we have basically 3 examples of players doing this to teams - Elway had baseball as leverage, Eli only did it because he wanted to get paid and I guess you can throw in Peyton going back to school but again, with the $30M guaranteed contracts given out to players now, there is no way Lawrence goes back to school next year. He'll be drafted and play for whoever has the #1 pick....just like every other #1 QB in the last 40 years outside of the 3 above.
  6. This is false. We have one of/if not the hardest schedule in the league so we have a high SOS. We'd lose the tiebreaker to any other team competing for the #1 spot if we end up tied with them.
  7. I feel similarly...I like Sam, I have his jersey and his bobblehead on my desk as I type. But the missing games for 3 seasons in a row concerns me. The inconsistent play concerns me. The laid back surfer mentality in New York concerns me. I think with the right coach and the right players Sam can be a good QB, maybe even a great QB...something the Jets haven't had since I don't even remember. But, if you have the chance to get the top rated QB over not just this season but multiple seasons and he has the chance to be an ELITE QB and you don't need to trade away 2 years worth of draft picks to get him, you have to take that chance. If Douglas is who we think he is, we won't be in this position again for the next 4 years.
  8. Exactly. I guarantee JD went into this season with a best case/worst case scenario. Best case: Team team builds on it finish from last year. Darnold, Quinnen, Vyncent Smith, Perriman, Bell, Herndon, Bless, Desir and his O-Line FA class develop and improve, outplaying their historic NFL performance (or get back to what they were in the case of Bell). The team outperforms expectations but we have a solid base to spend big in FA in 2021. Worst case: None of the above players play better than what they have shown thus far in the NFL. Tear it all down and start from scratch. Accumulate as many draft picks as possible because there are going to be a ton of new players in 2021. There may have been a couple layers in-between the two cases but the way JD spent money last offseason proves he felt that the worst case scenario was much more likely than the best case.
  9. This guy was on Gotham one time and now he's shilling screenplays on the board! @Maxman do we have any policies on how to deal with posters in the SAG??
  10. This. We might be able to get a 3rd for Maye from a team that needs a FS but that's probably the highest offer we get outside of Quinnen.
  11. Make no mistake that this season is a direct result of Idzik and Mike Maccagnan running this team for 7 years. They both can be realistically categorized as some of the worst GM's in NFL history. Not below average, not bad, worst. 7 years in the NFL is an eternity and for 7 years the team could have been managed better by a chimpanzee making decisions with a dart board of fan suggestions from this very site. To say Douglas hasn't done anything is based purely on emotion. He did something that Maccaggnan never did, he assessed the weak points of this team and addressed them in a responsible manner. In his introductory press conference he said a line that every GM says but rarely commit to, he was going to build this team through the draft. He saw the OL was the weakest group on the team and he drafted 2 o linemen. People who say Becton was the obvious choice clearly haven't been watching the Jets the past 10 years and are looking back at anything to discount JD's success. Contrary to popular belief GM's do not have magic healing skills. Players get injured, there's nothing anyone can do to prevent that. In addition to his draft picks, he signed low risk, high reward players from other teams to 1 year tryouts. The ones who perform get extensions, those who don't (GVR) will be on the street next year. He drafted the best punter in college football to shore up our punting situation. He drafted a very high ceiling safety because he knew Jamal was going to make noise this season. Is there any doubt that Mike M. would have paid Jamal a king's ransom to stay with us? ALL of the moves he is making are geared towards 2022 and beyond. The young players currently on the team will either prove they can be with us then or watch their replacements get drafted the next 2 years.
  12. This is the answer. Also, Sam will be coming back at some point. Not to say it won't be difficult/near impossible but he does hold his future in his hands. If he wants to stop the Trevor Lawrence talk and have JD build around him the next few years, take the team out of the top 5-10 draft picks. Put the team on your back and win some games. The ball is in his court.
  13. This is the reason I go with the $35 Chinese knock offs. Can't trust any player on this team anymore. Looks like my Darnold jerseys will be hitting the donation bag next.

  17. How has this been a poor draft class? Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app
  18. Yes, but they traded him for his direct replacement. QB for QB. If we end up with #1 we should definitely trade Sam. We won’t get enough value back for Q compared to what he still could be. Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app
  19. What if JD wants Gase because he is the best chance at the #1 pick? I want Gase to coach all 16 games this year at this point. Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app
  20. I agree but it still remains, you don’t trade a high 1st round draft pick his second year in the league. Even in a rebuild. Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app
  21. As long as the Johnsons are letting JD do whatever he wants, we are fine. This is what a rebuild looks like. Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app
  22. It never made sense to trade Q. Just because you are rebuilding doesn’t mean you trade away 2nd year players who have shown some promise. You don’t literally get rid of the whole team, you trade the old vets who can help other teams and line up draft picks to help the youngsters who you keep from this year.
