  2. Owens Terrell Owens is visiting the Bills Saturday. Buffalo, in desperate need for talent opposite Lee Evans, is expected to offer Owens a one-year contract. At that length, it's worth the risk for coach Dick Jauron, who is on a short leash. No other teams have publicly displayed interest in Owens. Mar. 7 - 5:26 pm et Source: FoxSports
  3. Marques Douglas-DL-Ravens Mar. 5 - 7:39 pm et The Jets are believed to be free agent DL Marques Douglas' strongest suitor. The Broncos and 49ers have also been linked to the versatile backup, but he's said to be a "personal favorite" of Jets coach Rex Ryan Dougla
  4. Profootballtalk.com reports that free agent Derrick Ward has signed a four-year, $17 million contract with the Bucs. Ward is reportedly guaranteed $6 million and has picked Tampa over offers from Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and the Giants. Ward's market wasn't near what he and agent Drew Rosenhaus had hoped, as they began free agency seeking $34.5 million over six years. This positions Ahmad Bradshaw to be the Giants' No. 2 back, although he'll face some competition from Danny Ware.
  5. Cutler According to SI's Peter King, Jay Cutler had asked the Broncos to trade him after the team lost offensive coordinator Jim Bates to USC after the season. Cutler wasn't happy about losing Bates or head coach Mike Shanahan, and he's not handling the recent trade talks well at all. It doesn't look like the Broncos are going to trade Cutler at this point, so, as King suggested, "maybe both sides need to get into marriage counseling." Mar. 2 - 10:02 am et

  7. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/03/safety_jim_leonard_visits_new.html Just trying to catch my breath after a couple of whirlwind days. I really like the moves by general manager Mike Tannenbaum thus far -- and the non-moves, namely not signing an aging Ray Lewis and instead going with the younger Bart Scott. Acquiring cornerback Lito Sheppard is a home run. Having two top-notch cornerbacks able to play one-on-one coverage will open up all types of possibilities for the blitz-happy Rex Ryan. As expected, Ravens safety Jim Leonhard and Bills tight end Robert Royal visited Sunday, but neither signed a contract. I would be shocked if Leonhard didn't end up a Jet. He may want to explore his options but I'm sure the Jets will top any deal he might get. Royal, primarily a blocker, looks like a perfect replacement for Chris Baker. I can't imagine teams lining up at his doorstep. The Bills recently cut him. Re-signing guard Brandon Moore was wise. Also, my guys are telling me that the Jets are very interested in re-signing linebacker David Bowens after the free agency frenzy calms down. The Jets always wanted to keep him but not at his $2 million base salary for the 2009 season. Bowens is a valuable backup and front-line special teams player. On another front, I talked to the Laveranues Coles camp Sunday and the Bills want him badly. They want to team him with the speedy Lee Evans. Coles would be the intermediate receiver while Evans would be the deep threat. Makes sense. Coles isn't in a hurry to make a decision, however, and will see what else develops. Surprisingly, I was told that the Dolphins and Browns are not in the running, as many have speculated. Both teams are pretty much set at receiver. If Coles ends up with the Bills, the number of ex-Jets in the AFC East with something to prove against their former teams will triple. In addition to QB Chad Pennington (Dolphins), the Jets would face Baker (Patriots) and (Coles). And all those players are in a position to impact the game. Meanwhile, the Jets have canceled a noon press conference Monday with Scott because of the snow. We may get him on a conference call.
  8. Dolphins | Unlikely to pursue Coles Sun, 01 Mar 2009 13:30:25 -0800 Brian Biggane, of the Palm Beach Post, reports the Miami Dolphins likely will not pursue unrestricted free-agent WR Laveranues Coles (Jets) because they do not see Coles as the No. 1 receiver they are looking for, according to a league source.
  9. Leonhard Update - Jets, Eagles and Broncos all interested. Offer on the table from the Eagles, however, Leonhard still hopes to land with Jets FRom Lisa Zimmerman Blog
  10. UPDATE ON THE LITO TRADE : from Erik Boland's Blog * A source tells me the Jets will give up a fifth rounder in this year's draft and, if conditions are met, they'll recoup that fifth round pick in next year's draft. So if certain conditions (those I'm still not sure of specifically but are related to playing time) are met and the Jets surrender a third round pick in 2010, they get the Eagles fifth round pick in 2010. Ditto if they have to give the Eagles a fourth rounder. Basically, the Jets are pretty much assured to have the Eagles fifth round pick next year. I was also told it was "very unlikely" this could turn into the Jets giving up a second rounder.
  11. Jets extend Sheppard's contract February 28, 2009 A little side note about the Lito Sheppard trade: The Jets did re-work his contract, according to a league source. Originally, he had three years, $11 million remaining on his deal. I don't have all the particulars of the new contract, but I know the Jets extended it by a year and inserted "new" money into 2010. For now, his base salary for 2009 will remain at $3 million. In addition to Ravens S Jim Leonhard, who will be arriving tonight for a visit, the Jets also are expecting former Bills TE Robert Royal to visit this evening. This was first reported by Lisa Zimmerman on her blog, jettingaroundwithlisaz.blogspot.com, and later confirmed. Royal is an interesting player. He's got some receiving ability, as he caught 33 passes for 351 yards (both career highs) and a touchdown last season. The Bills cut him because of cap considerations (he was due to count $8 million) and he battled injuries last season. The Jets are looking for an every-down tight end to replace Chris Baker and complement pass-catching
  12. Dolphins | Crowder re-signed Wed, 25 Feb 2009 15:54:43 -0800 Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Miami Dolphins have re-signed LB Channing Crowder to a multi-year contract. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
  13. Ravens | Closing in on deal with Scott Tue, 24 Feb 2009 15:13:47 -0800 Mike Preston, of The Baltimore Sun, reports it appears the Baltimore Ravens are moving closer to a new contract with impending free-agent LB Bart Scott before the start of free agenc
