  1. Watch the Saints play man. Brees is awesome, but having Sproles making people miss out of the backfield is a ncie weapon to have. He's a huge part of that offense. Throwing jump balls to a power forward athletic freak helps too.

Well one thing is for sure, the Saint's didn't really miss a beat when they let Bush go. Granted Bush did some good things in Miami last year, but part of me wonders how McKnight would look in Sproles place with Brees at QB.

  2. Are you really gonna go there?

Wasnt he the the QB coach not the OC??

If you wanna go there anyway, Brees 3rd year (2004?) he had a passer rating over 100

You can crush Schott all you want. I am not trying to defend him but I will stand firm on my position that it is the QB and not the OC that is the most important component. Take your best OC ever and I say he fails with #6

I think you make a great point, a good QB will generally take you further then a good OC working with a mediocre/poor QB, but then what about instances like Dilfer winning a SB or more recently Alex Smith bringing his team within one game of a SB? Couldn't you make an argument that it can work both ways?

  3. The Niners had a significantly better running game than the Jets last year, and they improved their passing game by signing Mario Manningham from the Gnats as well as Randy Moss rather than ignoring their obvious weaknesses, unlike the Jets. Obviously, the Niners are NOT attempting to turn the clock back to 1985 like the Jets seem to want to do, which is why they are NOT being criticized for being a team that likes to run.

FTR, they actually have some playmakers on offense, too:

    Alex Smith >>>>> Mark Sanchez

    Frank Gore >>>>>>>>>> Shonn Greene

    Vernon Davis >>>>> Dustin Keller

    Mario Manningham >>> Santonio Holmes

    Michael Crabtree >>> Jeremy Kerley

    Randy Moss >>> Steven Hill

Are you saying Alex Smith is a playmaker on that offense??

I guess I can't argue some of your points like comparing a would be #1 WR (Crabtree) drafted in the 1st round to a 5th round slot receiver (Kerley).

  4. Neither.

I firmly believe there isnt an OC in the NFL that wouldnt succeed with a top 10 QB

    Think Mike Martz after Warner.

    Think Gilbride before Eli.

    Real questions?

Would Sparano or Schott look good with the Saints Pats Packers Giants?

Is there any OC that could succeed with #6??????

Didn't Schotty have Brees for a while when he was in San Diego? How did Bree's do those years?

  5. Rotoworld:

The Jets recently worked out free agent OT Marcus McNeill, according to ESPN New York.

It's not clear if "recently" means before or after McNeill announced his retirement two weeks ago. It's quite possible that the workout convinced McNeill he was done. ESPN's John Clayton hinted that the Jets could be interested in trading for Colts RT Winston Justice, though he seemed to be just thinking out loud on that one. We don't see the Colts weakening their offensive line for Andrew Luck's debut.

  6. Sounds like he had a good year last year with his 5 INT's. Is he worth checking out?

Charlie Peprah | GB (July 25, 2012 4:17 PM EDT) Packers released SS Charlie Peprah.

Peprah received a $50,000 workout bonus in the spring and was due only $1 million in base salary. The move is a big surprise on the first day of training camp, although Peprah missed all of OTA season with knee woes and might not have been healthy. A 14-game starter in 2011, Peprah intercepted five passes and recorded 94 tackles. The Packers may turn to M.D. Jennings at strong safety, assuming they don't just move Charles Woodson there full time.

  7. Jeff Otah fails his physical at Jets

Jeff Otah | NYJ (July 25, 2012 6:48 PM EDT) New Jets OT Jeff Otah failed his physical to open training camp and was placed on active/PUP.

Otah is presumably still not fully healed from last year's knee injury, and he also has a bad history when it comes to his back. It's fair to wonder if he might be damaged goods. Otah will be eligible to practice when/if he gets healthy.
