  1. Devils are looking good on a very small sample size. That division just got more brutal than it already was.
  2. Shesty stole one for us last night against Toronto. Absolute theft after that 2nd period
  3. Things can always get out of hand against the Caps at any time pretty quickly and they did for us on opening night. Chalk that one up to too much adrenaline and a bit of opening night jitters. The Dallas result was disappointing in the end and Montreal was a scrappy win, albeit an ugly one. This team is still finding it's bearings right now, Fox looks great and so do some of the offseason acquisitions (Blais, etc.). Overall it isn't 100% clear what we have here yet and the big unknowns remain whether or not our high draft picks take the next step as well as whether or not Mika is really all the way back. So far they get a C plus on a very small sample size.
  4. I think there is a bit of that. 2nd half "prevent" defense syndrome by the other teams. A more telling factor is that even in the first half and before the defense has had a chance to get "worn out" we consistently show an inability to get off the field, especially in 3rd and long situations. The first-half time of possession differences are not all on the inept first-half offense and turnovers by Zach. Is it good that the defense stiffens enough in the red zone resulting in FGs against as opposed to TDs against? Yes but I think that overall the FGs against statistic probably make our defense look quite a bit better than it really has been.
  5. Clearly you are undervaluing the whole plucky Smurf angle. He may only be a BB gun but he is our BB gun. Hater.
  6. England back to old habits of laying an egg when minimum expectations were much higher.
  7. Tough division unless you are in the camp that feel the Penguins and the Caps may be in a pronounced decline. I do not. Both the Devils and the Rangers expect to be better this year and someone will be disappointed from the Metropolitan. For both teams it will come down to how quickly or if at all their very high draft picks start to dominate at this level. I think Jack Hughes is close to being there already. For the Rangers I would like to see Kakko take the next step (fingers crossed). I am not sure Laffy will turn into THAT GUY any time soon and Kravtsov needs to become more consistent or he might be sent back down for more seasoning.
  8. Wilder needs to worry about cumulative and possibly permanent damage from this series. Boxers never really accept this idea until it too late however.
  9. And I miss talking Rangers hockey with my friend. There I said it.
  10. Good job by the kids in the and and a win too, albeit a preseason win against one of the best two or three teams in hockey last year. Georgie always seems to play well against them Kakko is going to be a big boy when he finishes growing in the next few years and he looks like he enjoys playing with size already.
  11. Rangers and Islanders getting a little chippy. Islanders are used to being able to push the Rangers around and they are acting like nothing has changed. The Rangers at least standing up for themselves a little bit tonight. Good tone setter for the season in the final preseason game. We need to put on or two of theirs into the trainers room at some point this season just to be even or they will keep on doing more of the same.
  12. How long would an Adams "hands of stone" video be I wonder?
  13. Both of those two were pretty reasonably priced I bet.
  14. Even if you take the obscene salary, bad attitude and two first rounders out of the equation this was clearly addition by subtraction for the Jets purely in terms of his on the field liabilities. Have fun eating the signing bonus when you cut in favor of a journeyman scrub who can actually play the position a bit more than he can.
  15. Was it over when the Germans attacked Pearl harbor?
  16. Bill Belichick is pretty damned smart figuring out when a player is no longer a good cost vs reward proposition. Other than Brady that is. Either damaged goods or wants too much money or skills declining or simply that he has someone else who is almost as good or better for much less money. He pretty much always seems to get this stuff right. Much of the league has made missteps assuming they can root for (and find) treasure in the Patriots discard pile. Pass

    rookie bombs

Yeah, the "easy ones" to close out a game. This weekend was a good start but he needs to work on his assassin skills.
  18. I definitely think that this particular Falcons team is there to be had and somewhat made to order for this Jets team. I agree with the idea that we are a work in progress and likely to see two steps forward and one step backwards for some time to come but in this case I think we get our second forward step in a row this week. If not we can always fall back on the old long plane ride, strange environment disrupted schedule type excuses while conveniently overlooking the fact that the same was also true for our opponents. At least the defense will be facing real receivers this week. Tottenham Hotspur stadium is a huuuuge place.
  19. He was getting roundly pounded by rank and file posters on the thread in question before the lifetime ban. He certainly deserved all he was getting on that up to that time. A lifetime ban is excessive and reminds me of the other place.
  20. It took DWC the better part of a decade and numerous last chances to get his lifetime ban yet @BROOKLYN JET seems to have been one and done. If may not have been cancel culture but I am not sure that is either reasonable or measured regardless of the offense,
  21. Not sure there will be much activity on this thread this year. Brooklyn_Jet was the heart and soul of Rangers threads in previous years and he seems to have acquired a lifetime ban. In any event here it is. New season. New GM and new Head coach. A roster which has been made over in some degree to try and address an overall lack of toughness and still one of the youngest and most talented teams. At least on paper that is. Time to make the playoffs this year. Can't sleepwalk into the season like we did last year.
  22. The great Mims mystery. I don't think he started so he was down the depth chart to begin with, Looks like he fell off.
  23. Given results last night I am worried about the same thing
  24. Add to that the question of the type of candidates we could even attract to this GM/HC merry-go-round in the first place.
