  1. Tonight has letdown game written all over it. Back to back games. Shesterkin out for who knows how long, Blackhawks playing much better of late and we are sitting on a five-game winning streak. Time for Georgie to step up and show us some of what he has shown last year. First place in the Metropolitan may be on the line.
  2. Georgie time!!! (trying to stay positive) It feels like it should have been more than 1-0 tonight but notwithstanding all of that still we seem to find ways to bank points. Five in a row baby
  3. Possibility of moving to within one point of the division lead tonight and with two games in hand if we can get a win over the Sharks.
  4. Strange week. The vaunted Metropolitan division coming back to earth a little bit. Take a look at "STRK" the last column here Here is the more digestible (fewer columns) format
  5. Not only still in the game but closing in on the all-time "Ironman" award apparently.
  6. Philly are hot mess, possibly as bad as the Islanders right now. GM needs to take some of the blame but I do not see how this does not land on AV. Another win from a "danger" game where we were clearly a bit rusty after the layoff and yet still managed to bank the points. Faba was tight the division seems to be separating into top-3, middle-3 and bottom-2 Let me add my vote (again) into the idea that if there is some way to give @BROOKLYNJET a 2nd chance i feel that he adds far more to the board than he detracts and.... given that other offenders have spent years in some cases committing offense after offense before finally "earning" their permabans, the idea of a one-and-done offense seems like overkill.
  7. No game until Wednesday feels like a lifetime
  8. Predictable game from Chelsea today. Timo Werner is utterly useless in front of net. Mount and Pulisic should definitely have started. Probably Lukaku as well.
  9. Looking pretty grim for Islanders. Losing streak at 8 now
  10. Congrats on getting your iManager. There are real Tuchel-like possibilities in here for you guys I think. Coming in to a team mid-season and with very moderate expectations for the current campaign is a dangerous combination. When you add that to a spot in the CL last 16 and a roster with as much top-end talent as anyone in the world I think United become a very "tough out" from here on in. I wish it had happened a couple of weeks from now.
  11. City strangled them slowly today. The only interest came when PSG went ahead against the run of play. I wonder how many EPL teams legitimately belong in the top-32 CL places? <edited to add> Messi, Mbappe and Neymar all getting killed on the CBS post game show. "No team can afford to carry one passenger at the top levels of the game let alone carrying three passengers"
  12. From your lips to God's ears but I do not think this incarnation of Chelsea are that ruthlessly methodical. Not yet anyway. So there is concern that the change at United, even if it has not been completed will lead to one of those extra effort performances that the United team has shown itself to be capable of. Pochetitino is a good choice but I fear they will have to give him full control (buying the groceries) in order to land him and I wonder why PSG locked him down in that respect.
  13. Let's wait on any United turnaround until after the Chelsea game next weekend
  14. That islanders team is going to wake up sooner or later like a bear with a sore head and start a long winning streak. They are just too loaded not to do that but hopefully all of that happens after the game on Wednesday. Rangers just need to bank the points now and let other teams chase later. The Georgiev problem may need a more extreme solution like sending him down to work out his issues in Hartford. Tinordi is a liability
  15. Agree 100% and TBH we haven't seen the best of this team yet. Anyhow it beats giving the rest of the division a two-streets head start at the beginning of the season as we did last year.
  16. Big game tonight against the Toronto Maple leafs. We stole one in their building earlier in the year, 2-1 against the run of play when Shesterkin played out of his mind. Fast forward to tonight with both teams at 23 points sitting 2nd and 3rd in their respective divisions. Once again this game is in Toronto and my gut is telling me that Toronto will even up the season series tonight but if we can nick one or both points again that would be just fine too. Time for Laffy to step his game up. <post game> Well it was going to happen sooner or later. A game where we basically played well and deserved one or maybe even both points but one where we lost. Good game, let's start a new winning streak now. COVID holiday coming up next courtesy of Ottawa.
  17. Last night was a bit of a trap game against a team with one of the worst records in the NHL, lots of injuries' and a rookie goaltender making his first NHL start. What could go wrong after all? Well, we made plenty of chances, missed on several wide open looks and I do mean wide open looks and we managed to make the rookie net minder look like he was standing on his head most of the night. Despite all of those things we escaped the game with what ended up being a narrowly decided regulation win (phew). We continue to rack up points in the standings while at the same time looking like an ordinary team on the ice. Kakko looked sharp for the second straight game. Fun times.
  18. Another win last night albeit another ugly one against the Devils. Still, four points from the weekend back to back games.
  19. No Belichick fan here. Quite the opposite in fact. Much as it hurts to say it i think he gets to credit for at least some of Vrable's successes as much as i would like for it not to be true.
  20. Saying he is not from the Belichick tree does not pass the smell test, sorry.
  21. The thing about trees is that they get to claim credit for all of the branches or fruit regardless of whether or not those branches came from the main truck or from other branches. Vrabel was widely viewed as a coach on the field during his playing days and like it or not he is fruit from that tree.
  22. Are the Islanders that good that they can just turn it on come playoff time and go deep again?
  23. Nice divisional win tonight. 2nd period was good. Chances are that Georgie was going to get the game tomorrow against the Devils anyway. Devils will be annoyed after they stubbed their toe against an improving Boston team today and after back to back statement wins against Florida and the Islanders Bottom line anyway is that we banked two points against a division opponent in regulation. I know it is early but right now if I had to make a bet I would say five teams will be going to the playoffs from the Metropolitan so the three that will be left out might be Pens, Blue Jackets and I think it is between Flyers, Rangers and Devils. Before today the Devils were looking really really dangerous Good test tomorrow I still don't think we have seen the Rangers play a complete game except maybe the first win over the Blue jackets 4-0. It is a good sign that the team is getting points without playing their best yet. Very good. 11/13/21 Standings
