Watching my Browns lose 1 day a week, talking about it the other 6 days
  1. This is what you have to worry about when a team that is only supposed to win 4 games suddenly wins 10. Assistants get promoted around the league pretty quickly. I don't think he'll leave this season, but if the Jets have another successful season he will be a hot commodity. By the way, the only reason you guys got Schottenheimer is because the Browns blocked you from grabbing our O-line coach (Davidson) by making him Asst. head coach. Right about now you guys are looking really smart, and we're looking really stupid. The ability to hire an assistant coach from another team depends on their particular contract. Most contracts state that if the assistant coach is offered a promotion for another team then his team can either match the promotion or let him go. You don't need to give up draft picks or money unless you're going after a head coach or front office exec.
  2. Mangini was a great coach, and in most other years would have been coach of the year for what he did with your Jets. But Payton turned around a franchise. You guys have been saying that he doesn't deserve it because of all the talent he had; he brought in the talent to that team. He brought 29 new players in, including a franchise QB and 2 rookie of the year candidates. He built the talent on that team. And even if it was the same team as last year, then you could say the only difference between last years futility and this years success has been the coaching. I certainly understand why all of you think Mangini deserved the honor, and I don't disagree. I just wanted to give you an unbiased view from an outsider as to why Payton won over Mangini. And I would have thought it would be a lot closer than it was. It certainly was close in my mind. Good luck with the Pats this weekend, I hope Mangini embarasses Belicheck again.
  3. "I'm not actually moving to Alabama. I'm gonna be coaching via telephone from my shanty in the mountains. On game day I'm gonna have a speakerphone sitting next to the bench so I can call plays and motivate my team."

  5. Wow, that was really unnecessary, seeing that I only came to this site to say good things about the Jets and bad things about the Patriots. I guess not all Jets fans are as cordial as I thought. But anyway Belicheck took over a decent Cleveland Browns team in 1991 and only posted 1 winning season before he was canned. And it was because he led our team to such crapitude that Art Modell moved the team to Baltimore. The only genius about Belicheck is his ability to hire fantastic D-coordinators.

  7. Wayne was a guy I always liked to watch, even though many times he destroyed my Browns. He was proof that heart and toughness can overcome physical limitations.

  9. Back to the thread topic... The Pats usually step up their game in the playoffs, the Jets will need to do the same. If Brady has a good game, then your goose is cooked. If your defense can disrupt him as well as they did last time you'l be in great position. When the Jets have the ball, the game may come down to the matchup between Seymore and Ferguson. If Ferguson can keep Seymore under wraps then the running game and playaction will be wide open.

  11. The only reason the Pats didn't lose to us this year is because they didn't play us. Belichicken hates coming to Cleveland because we ran him out of town after he 'led' our team to the worst record we've ever had under any head coach. He doesn't like returning to the scene of the crime he committed against the Browns and football in general.

  13. Are you actually calling Miami, who blew you out 21-0, a high school team? So I guess the Pats are JV then. And I also find it funny that you're calling out Mangini when he clearly showed who the real genius was NE. And aparently when Mangini left so did all the class. Belichicken needs to be a man and shake hands with his pupil who completely outcoached him.
  14. Where to start? The O-line is awful. My mother could get a sack against our O-line. That's where it all begins. Our offensive playcalling has rivalled Oakland for the worst in the league. Even after firing our OC halfway through the season, it still sucks. We have a decent running game that can get over 4 yards per carry, but we averaged about 16 rushing attempts per game vs. 35 pass attempts. Our WR's couldn't catch a cold. Our QB is not an NFL starter. Frye is like Michael Vick without the speed. He doesn't read his checkdowns. If the primary receiver is covered, he'll tuck the ball or heave it into coverage. He also doesn't have pocket awareness and throws twice as many picks in the redzone as he does TD's. Our defense is average, but they are on the field 70% of the time because of the turnovers and pass wacky offense. Not to mention we have 10 guys on injured reserve; 2 starting CB's, a few LB's, plenty of special teams, a QB, and some O-line. In fact, our free agent gem center went down for the season on the first snap of OTA's. His backup then retired because he didn't want to be a starter. His backup ended up on IR. His backup didn't know how to snap the ball so we got the backup center from the Iggles and made him our starter. We went through 5 centers before it was all over. Then the players started getting upset with each other because they were sick of losing. That's a brief synopsis of our major issues.
  15. Quinn is almost a prototypical QB. He's got the intangibles that a team leader needs to have. Right now it's looking like he'll go in the top 4 to either the Raiders or Browns. The Raiders have had some of the worst 'luck' with QB's, mainly because Al Davis doesn't believe in drafting them high or overvaluing them. But with the 1st overall pick, it's a different story. Unfortunately if Quinn is still on the board when my Browns draft 3rd or 4th I think they'll take him. I'd hate to see that happen because we should be able to get Joe Thomas to fill our huge need on the O line.
