Absolutely preposterous.  Franchise QB's don't go 2-4 in postseason games, with a 77.3 career postseason QB rating, 6.6 YPA, 8 INTs, and 4 fumbles.

They also don't go 3-9 against the Patriots, 5-5 against the Bills, 0-2 against the Ravens and 1-2 against the Steelers.

    QB Purgatory.

    @Bleedin Green @CTM

But come on, what about 2/3 of the 2002 season, right?

Not to say that the 61 TDs / 51 INTs in the 54 games that followed wasn't also truly breathtaking.  1.1 TD and 1 INT per game are what QB dreams are made of.

  2. In fairness, I guess by comparison, he does have a decent chance of turning in a better ROI this year than the one JAG season the Jets have gotten in return for their $35M paid so far.

Just ignore that literally the only reason he's still even on the roster today is because, by opting to get paid $10M in 2020 to do absolutely nothing, it also meant the team was forced to substantially overpay him for yet another year.

  3. Not too upset about it, but no, I don't think they "won".  I never loved the idea of taking an interior OL in the top half of the first, so of course also not trading up to make that happen, particularly for a team with so many needs and the supposed OL expertise of JD, at a position very frequently filled with mid-to-late rounders and solid starters frequently finding their way into FA .

If AVT is a hit, then I'll of course be just fine with it, as this team has done much worse before.  However, I also think his rookie year was a bit over-hyped around here, as while he was not by any measure bad, there were a few of his own whiffs folks were in a rush to blame his lesser-liked teammates (including McGovern repeatedly earlier in the year, before he won back the favor of fans), rather than rightfully putting on him.

It's simply not the kind of move I'd typically be excited about short of it fitting a very specific need for an otherwise well-built team.  However, all that will really matter is how it works out, but I will say the reduction in draft picks that came as a result of the move definitely can't be considered a justification for the Jets yet again needing "one more year" when they chose to so heavily invest, so it's time to put up or shut up.

Every year since I've been on these websites, I'm told that preseason in meaningless, and then, the regular season comes around all all the same issues that occurred in preseason are still happening.

In total fairness, sometimes it's a little worse in regular season.

    My problem exactly.

Right now he wants to ingratiate himself to the fan base.  He's a mercenary and by definition has no home, so he's trying to create one now that his career is over.   It is an absolute disgrace that he's getting away with it.

We seem to have a fanbase and ownership with no self respect.

Yeah, Revis' past has always shown his commitment to the Jets was no more than to when it was to his own financial benefit, regardless of whether in the team's best interest.  For those who defend it by saying it was "strictly business", that's fine, but let's not pretend anything is even slightly different about that right now.  Trying to cash in on his past with the Jets is the last remaining chance he has to pull more money out of the NFL, after ending his career as a league-wide punchline, and that's all he's trying to do now.

Mevi$ didn't suddenly transform into a new person.  I actually have no problem if he pulls it off now, because whatever side money he takes doesn't make any difference to the team on the field, but let's also not try to suddenly start retroactively praising the guy for something he's not, and never was.

I'd love to have an overrated QB here

Well in theory, you could still consider many Jets' QBs overrated if you include the terrible ones that were qualified as "not bad" or inexplicably better (as seen above).

But yeah, the Ryan level of overrated would still be the GOAT around here, considering all of the fawning that goes on for the likes of Pennington who was indisputably worse across the board at every one of the things Ryan is considered overrated for doing.

Balance is crucial in the postseason, especially when you tend to be playing in cold weather and you’re a young QB.  Giving Ryan a running game and defense would have indeed helped his playoff numbers greatly, as it would have allowed things to not fall entirely on the passing game’s shoulders.

Is it really so hard for you to admit Sanchez’s roster is what made Sanchez’s play acceptable for a couple of Sanchez’s postseason games, or are we really going to call the same guy who went 0-fer with a fumble-6 in the 1st half of the Steeler game a “good” playoff QB here?  Is that what we’re doing?  Saying Sanchez was the “better QB” for those teams?  Really?

Tagging in @Bleedin Green here because I feel like I’m taking crazy pills now.

Sanchez was good in 1 out of 6 playoff games.  That's it.

    In 2009:

vs Cincy - Wasn't bad, but entirely irrelevant as they simply didn't throw the ball.  Running game and D completely dominated.
vs Chargers - Horrifically awful.  The team won 100% completely in spite of him, as he had to get dragged kicking and screaming to victory.  Shut-out in the first half.
vs Indy - Threw one go-route to Edwards, and did absolutely nothing for the rest of the game.  Shut-out in 3 of 4 quarters.  Proven to be totally useless once Greene got hurt and the run game couldn't completely carry the O.

    In 2010:
vs Indy - Completely sucked vs them again, but this time defense and running game dragged him to victory against the Colts as well.  Yet once again shut-out in the first half.
vs NE - Great game all around from the entire team, including Sanchez.  I'll never take that away from him, but he also didn't win it by himself, for those trying to push a narrative.
vs Pitts - Unmitigated disaster.  Just barely snuck away from another first half-shut, but instead had the honor of getting more points for the Steelers' in that half, which was also single-handedly greater than the margin of defeat.  The scapegoated Jets D meanwhile allowed only 17 points, scored 2, got 3 turnovers, and pitched a second-half shut-out.  Meanwhile, still down by 2 scores Sanchez ate up half of the 4th quarter with a useless drive that ended in 0 points.  Anyone using this game as some great Sanchez defense cannot be taken seriously on any football topic ever.

    @Jetsfan80 I miss anything?

Pennington had all the smarts and the ability to transfer film learning to the field. He had an average arm compounded by injuries. Wilson has physical talent and film smarts. If he can bring that to the field he will be dangerous

It certainly took unmatched brilliance to deduce that on 3rd and long, Jerald Sowell was somehow open for a 2 yard gain almost every time.

  9. The gut reactions:

    Week 1: Sept. 11 vs. Ravens, 1 p.m., CBS - Not happening

    Week 2: Sept. 18 at Browns, 1 p.m., CBS - Maybe

Week 3: Sept. 25 vs. Bengals, 1 p.m., CBS - Only if Mike White Starts

Week 4: Oct. 2 at Steelers, 1 p.m., CBS - Probably not, but could be

    Week 5: Oct. 9 vs. Dolphins, 1 p.m., CBS - Hopefully

    Week 6: Oct. 16 at Packers, 1 p.m., FOX - No chance

    Week 7: Oct. 23 at Broncos, 4:05 p.m., CBS - Nope

Week 8: Oct. 30 vs. Patriots, 1 p.m., CBS - Certainly hope so

    Week 9: Nov. 6 vs. Bills, 1 p.m., CBS - Very doubtful

Week 10: Bye - They definitely won't lose!

    Week 11: Nov. 20 At Patriots, 1 p.m., CBS  - Meh

    Week 12: Nov. 27 vs. Bears, 1 p.m., FOX  - Should

    Week 13: Dec. 4 at Vikings, 1 p.m., CBS - Probably not

    Week 14: Dec. 11 at Bills, 1 p.m., CBS - Not happening

Week 15: Dec. 18 vs. Lions, 1 p.m., FOX - They friggin better

Week 16: Dec. 22 vs. Jaguars, 8:15 p.m., Prime Video - Prime time baby!  Which means while they easily should, probably won't as everyone watches

    Week 17: Jan. 1 at Seahawks, 4:05 p.m., FOX  - Hopefully

Week 18: Jan. 7/8 at Dolphins, TBD, TBD - Will either team even care?

It's the Jets, so they'll definitely lose a couple where they're favorites, especially if it seems to have suddenly "clicked" but then steal a couple out of complete left field to balance it out, so if this draft class is anywhere close to the hype machine levels and Wilson stops being quite so Wilson about it, should be looking at around .500.
