  1. Did anyone see K Johson interviewing Belly on ESPN? What the hell was that thing on his lip?? ... does Belly have herpes or something????

It was disgusting!!... I couldn't even pay attention to what they were talking about! lol.

    :puke:

  2. See all you combine haters. This is where the combine will pay dividends. Both guys should run on an even track. It will be easy enough to tell if Groves is significantly faster or Gholston is the physical beast many imagine. D1 talent is so uneven that it is difficult to compare players even within the same conference. For all the faults the combine exists for this reason.

At this point I will go on record as saying I am hoping for Chris Long. Seems like the best fit person and attitude-wise and should adapt to playing our system.

I would take Chris Long in a heartbeat.. I just don't think he'll be available at #6 though. Gholston should be a solid pick too though.

  3. Can someone explain to me the point in dumping DRob and then drafting Ellis?

Isn't Groves a better fit for the 3-4 than Gholston anyway? Same size, supposedly is significantly faster, and has OLB experience. Senior season he was supposedly hurt (Dislocated 3 toes vs Florida in late Sept) & it badly affected his sack total (as did playing some 4-3 OLB). Plus Groves might be there a full round later.

I wouldn't be too upset if this was our off-season/draft. Really addresses major needs & is well thought-out. Bryant may be an imperfect 3-4 NT specimen, but the whole franchise can't wait around for the absolute perfect one to present himself. Can't get much more ill-suited than DRob in that position. Gholston I'm neither high on nor down on really. I just have an inherent issue with drafting a guy at #6 and converting him out of his natural position; the draft is such a crap-shoot as it is, without throwing this additional road-bump in there.

Only thing that's not so black-and-white but is overlooked in this (and many) mocks, is regarding Coles. If he's not traded, he's going to be a miserable distraction if he's not given an extension. Call it a hunch. He's been VERY vocal about wanting an extension since the season ended. On paper the best thing might be to keep him around for another year or finish up his current contract through 2009. In reality, that may not be so easy. Particularly if his best friend is traded.

But overall, this is one of the best off-season mocks I've seen so far.

Thanks! I hope to continually improve them throughout the offseason.

I agree about dumping Drob and drafting Ellis; completley pointless. I beleive/hope the FO will try to restructure Robertson's contract because he is actually a pretty good player... he just doesn't fit the role of a NT.

As for dealing with Coles I did cover that and definitely agree. If he isn't offered a new contract the situation could go sour quickly... possibly worse than Kendal, IMO. The FO will need to be a bit more careful in dealing with this matter.

    New Contracts:

    Coles, Rhodes, Hobson

  4. Second stab at one of these... Enjoy!

    Notable Cuts:

    Barton

    Barret

    McCairens

    Dyson

    Clarke

Robertson (I would like to see them re-work a new contract with him.. and think they will try. It probably won't work out though.)

    Trades:

Pennington - Early 4th round pick... Clemens will get the knod this year and Chad will not be happy on the bench.

Vilma - Mid 3rd round pick... due to his injury this might be a bit of a stretch, but there are 4-3 defenses that need MLB's. His leadership, work ethic and potential when healthy, should make him worth the risk.

    New Contracts:

    Coles, Rhodes, Hobson

    Notable FA's:

    OG, Stacey Andrews

    WR, Bernard Berrian

    RB, T.J. Ducket

    QB, Josh McCown

    ILB, Clark Haggan

    CB, Nnamdu Asomugha

    Draft (first four rounds):

1- OLB, Vernon Gholston (OSU)... With few trade down partners, the Jets might be forced to reach a little bit here. He's about 10-15lbs bigger than Adalius Thomas and will be a force on the outside.

2- OT, Carl Nicks (Nebraska)... Massive frame at 6-5, 340lbs.. an easy upgrade over Clement.

3A- NT, Red Bryant (Texas A&M)... 320lb team captain. Has the frame to add weight and become a dominate 2-gap Defensive lineman.

3B- DE, Demario Pressley (NC State)... Adds depth at DE, until he is ready to replace Ellis.

4A- FB, Owen Scmidtt (WV)... Will help to improve our running game.

    4B- FS, Quintin Demps (UTEP)

    Offense:

    QB- Clemens, Josh McCown, Ratliff

WR- Coles, Cotchery, Berrian, Stuckey, Brad Smith, Wallace Wright

RB- T Jones, Leon, T.J. Ducket

    FB- Owen Schmidtt

    TE- Baker, Kowalewski, Dearth

    OT- Ferguson, Carl Nicks, Clement

    OG- Stacey Andrews, Moore, Montgomery

    C- Mangold

    Defense:

DE- Ellis, Kenyon Coleman, DeMario Pressley, Mosely

    NT- Red Bryant, Pouha

    ILB- Harris, Haggan, Hobson

    OLB- Thomas, Gholston, Bowens, Chatman

CB- Revis, Nnamdu Asomugha, Miller, Drew Coleman

    SS- Rhodes, Eric Smith

    FS- Elam, Quintin Demps

  5. With Roberston making $10 million+ in 2008, he will undoubtly be released or will have to restructure his deal. I don't see the Jets locking him up to an extension, so a restructure is out of the question, IMO.

Albert Haynesworth as a 34 Nose Tackle? Wishful thinking. I don't think Tennesse is going to let him go anywhere. They saw how much of an impact he made on that team and at the very least they will franchise him for 2008.

Clark Haggan living in New York as a back-up? Not going to happen, he'll remain in Pittsburgh unless we're offering a starting job and Pittsburgh is not.

Chris Long, if drafted by the Jets, IMO, would be better served losing 10lbs (he's listed at 280) and switching to a 34 OLB. 280, or even 290, is too small for a 34 Defensive End, especially with Shaun Ellis (undersized at 285) playing on the other side.

Lastly, I like Justin Miller as well, but the Jets need to bring someone in to compete with him as he is coming off of injury and as well as he's performed in practice, has not shown he has broken through as a quality starting Cornerback in the NFL. And if they have a chance at Asante Samuel, they have to make a move for him. The secondary would be viewed as one of the best in the league with Samuel added to it. Possibly THE BEST.

Perhaps Haynesworth is wishful thinking, but I would hope that the FO would make a strong push for him. If he is franchised I would be content with making a blockbuster trade sending something like Vilma and Coles for Haynesworth and a draft pick... or something of that nature.

My thoughts with Haggan were that he would be brought in to compete for a starting role with Vilma... which would make trading Vilma an option during the preseason.

I don't think we're getting Asante. Some team like the 49ers will offer him $80M and we'll be left in the dust. CB is definitely something I will need to address in my next mock though...

  6. I don't see us cutting drob, because we are comfortably under the cap as it is. I would mess myself if the titans let Fat Al go and we were able to get him, however i dont see a 1% chance of it happening. If we were able to get haynesworth, I think drob could actually excell.

Chriss long would be fantastic, but he would most likely be used as an OLB in our 34 and play like a mike vrabel role. If we do end up with long, who i dont see dropping, than harvey would be an extra luxury. Gosder cherilus would be an outstanding pickup, but right now is looking to be a late 1st early second type of guy; especially with the senior bowl weighin and his first practice. If we are commited to running a fullback type of set i would LOVE Owen Schmitt.

The only player i really see us going after is Andrews and he would be an excellent fit at OG or OT; i could see us definately going after Albert, but i don't see him getting away from the titans.

I'm not saying he couldn't be used in that role... but Chris Long would be a very big OLB.

He's currently listed at 284lbs... 20lbs heavier than Vrable, and 15lbs heavier than Adalius Thomas (who is enormous).

Now... he very well may be athletic enough to play OLB at that weight.. but I think he would be more likely to project as a 3-4 DE.. IMO.

  7. I usually don't do these, but I was pretty bored tonight and decided to make one. Feel free to tear it apart.

    Notable Cuts:

    Barton, Barret, Robertson, McCairens, Dyson

    Trades:

    Pennington - mid 3rd round

    Extensions:

    Coles & Rhodes

    Notable FA's:

    OG Stacey Andrews

NT Albert Haynesworth.. Robertson's departure puts $8M towards this man

    WR D.J. Hackett

    RB T.J. Ducket

    QB Josh McCown

    ILB Clark Haggan

    Draft (first four rounds):

    1- DE, Chris Long (Virginia)

    2- OLB, Derrick Harvey (Florida)

3- OT, Gosder Cherilus (BC); would most likely need to trade up using Penny's pick.

    4- FB, Owen Scmidtt (WV)

    Offense:

    QB- Clemens, Josh McCown, Ratliff

WR- Coles, Cotchery, DJ Hacket, Stuckey, Brad Smith, Wallace Wright

RB- T Jones, Leon, T.J. Ducket

    FB-

    Owen Schmidtt

    TE- Baker, Kowalewski, Dearth

OT- Ferguson, Gosder Cherilus, Clement, Oldenberg

OG- Stacey Andrews, Moore, Montgomery, Turner

    C- Mangold

    Defense:

DE- Ellis, Chris Long, Kenyon Coleman, Mosely

    NT- Haynesworth, Pouha

    ILB- Harris, Vilma, Haggan

    OLB- Thomas, Harvey, Bowens, Chatman

CB- Revis, Miller, Poteat, Drew Coleman

    SS- Rhodes, Eric Smith

    FS- Elam, Eric Coleman

  8. OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- John Harbaugh was hired Friday as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, who hope their second choice proves to be a first-rate success.

Harbaugh spent this season as Philadelphia's secondary coach after making a name for himself working with special teams.

He has never been a head coach, but has coaching in his genes -- his brother, Jim, a former NFL quarterback with the Bears and Colts and three other teams, including the Ravens, is the head coach of Stanford. Their father, Jack, is former head coach at Western Kentucky.

The 45-year-old Harbaugh will be introduced as the third coach in Ravens history at a news conference on Saturday.

Harbaugh interviewed a second time at the Ravens' training complex Friday with owner Steve Bisciotti, president Dick Cass and general manager Ozzie Newsome. Harbaugh arrived around 9:30 a.m. and finally reached an agreement around 5:30 p.m.

He then left in a limousine for his home in Philadelphia without talking to the media.

Ravens spokesman Kevin Byrne said Harbaugh wanted to first share the news with his wife and parents before sharing his feelings in front of cameras and reporters.

Harbaugh replaces Brian Billick, who was fired on Dec. 31 after a nine-year run. The Ravens earlier this week offered the job to Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, who spurned Baltimore in favor of staying in Dallas. Garrett rejected the Ravens' job offer after receiving a raise from owner Jerry Jones and a promotion to assistant head coach.

Harbaugh was selected the NFL Special Teams Coach of the Year by his peers in 2001. He shifted to the secondary last season, working under Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson.

  9. Gholston would be worth it if we ran a 4-3. Just because a 4-3 DE and a 3-4 OLB are the same build/speed roughly, it doesn't mean that Gholston will suddenly and seamlessly be able to cover receivers, make plays in space, read changes in offensive shifts prior to the snap, or master any number of responsibilities a LB has that a DE doesn't have. And at #6, he is expected to be just that -- a MASTER at it. He's being drafted for his skill in on the line, particularly in running around OT's and chasing down QB's in predatory-like fashion. To draft him #6 overall and make the giant leap of an assumption that he'd be just as good at a totally different position, we are begging for disappointment.

    Great point.

  10. There should be a "**** if I know" option. Because I have no clue.

James Laurinaitis, IF we pick up a respectable FA OLB.. which would be ideal.

Otherwise we should probably just get Gholston and continue to use Vilma OR Barton inside.

  11. Who should I sit this week between:

    E. James (Cards)

    S. Gado (Miami)

~Gado is playing a tough run defense but will get a lot of touches, maybe a touchdown.

~James isn't getting as many touches, and hasn't been in on many redzone opportunities as of late... he will but up decent yards though.

I've got a tough matchup this week in the playoffs.. the team I'm facing has Brady, Addia and Portis, so this final roster spot is important.

  12. Trades

I would be perfectly fine with all of that. Though.. if they trade Penny, they'd likely bring in another experienced QB.

  13. Hey guys. Think I should make any changes here?

I decided to make a trade for Andre Johnson last week, straight up for Bowe. I'm hoping that he returns to the numbers he was putting up at the start of the season (plus I think Marshall/Young are servicable at W/R if he isn't).

    ::::My Team::::

    Current starting line-up:

    QB- Derek Anderson

    WR- Larry Fitzgerald

    WR- Greg Jennings

    RB- Edgerrine James

    RB- Brandon Jacobs

W/R- Andre Johnson (comes back this week..)

    TE- Randy McMichael

    K- Nick Folk

    DEF- San Diego

    ::::On the bench::::

WR- David Patten, Brandon Marshall, Kevin Walter

RB- Selvin Young, Ahman Green, Michael Pittman

    DEF- Detroit

  15. i would go with chad and the detriots D. idk i have detriot as my startn D got me 31pts last week.

Chad's injury sounds iffy to me so I would avoid him. Plaxico is coming off of a bye week and should be rested enough for his injury not to have much of an affect on him... plus last time they played Dallas there were a lot of pts scored, so possibility for a TD or two.

I think I'm gonna go with Detroit this week, which is probably your best option as well.

  16. I'd roll with DET, can't her with Kurt Interceptor throwing the ball.

u team looks good, I havn't herd the status of Henry yet, so I'd keep an eye on him to see if young is gonna start. if so I'd start him over patten.

Oh trust me.. i'll be keeping an eye on henry's status, lol. If henry's out, selvin would be a great 3rd RB in the W/R spot.

I started my season 0-3 because all of my picks were either hurt or playing awful.. but then made a few trades and have gone 6-0 since. I'm still trying to get a better TE though, I traded clarke away to get jacobs and bowe.

    Thanks for the input.

  17. Bowe for sure. With LJ being hurt the balls will start going to Gonzo first, and bowe second. Herm has never really had a receiver he's leaned on, but i think bowe is set for a strong finish...

then again, it is herm and he could call neal downs all game.

What about defense? Should I try to pick up one of those FA defenses for their match-ups.. or should I just roll with Detroit vs Arizona?

  18. I'm in a 12 team fantasy league and in the runnings for playoffs. I'm having trouble deciding who to start for my W/R position out of Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Marshall, Selvin Young, David Patten.. any suggestions?

Also, right now I'm planning on starting Detroit at Arizona as my defense. I have SD (vs Indy) on the bench and NO at STL, KC at Denver, Cincy at Balt and Wash at Phi are all still available.... thoughts?
