  1. Absolutely true. It's just so tragic. RIP. The only point I was making was that the kid's father was a judge in Aruba and they disallowed video evidence of him admitting he killed the girl. Completely disgusting -- he should have been locked up right then. Maybe the Peruvians will be able to do what the Arubans couldn't -- get this scumbag off the streets so he can't harm anyone else.
  2. Another actor passed away. Maybe not as famous as Dennis Hopper or Gary Coleman. RIP Rue. http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=503628&GT1=28102 NEW YORK (AP) -- Rue McClanahan, the Emmy-winning actress who brought the sexually liberated Southern belle Blanche Devereaux to life on the hit TV series "The Golden Girls," has died. She was 76. Her manager Barbara Lawrence said McClanahan died Thursday at 1 a.m. of a stroke. She's in yellow.
  3. It sounds as if he was arrested in Chile. I'll bet they're talking to the Peruvian police. Wonder what their extradition policies are. Interesting twist that might make this POS get what he deserves. "The victim's father, Ricardo Flores, 48, is a former president of the Peruvian Automobile Club who won the "Caminos del Inca" rally in 1991 and brings circuses and foreign entertainers to Peru. He ran for vice president in 2001 and for president five years later on fringe tickets." Maybe the victim's family connections will help, just as the murderer's father being a judge in Aruba probably helped him in the last case. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37492667/ns/world_news-americas/?GT1=43001
  4. This site has an interactive map of how the oil is spreading (click on "play" to watch), plus other information about how they've tried to stop the flow and effects on wildlife. The numbers on the side showing how much oil has already spilled into the ocean are sobering. Exxon Valdez looks like a papercupful compared to this. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/05/01/us/20100501-oil-spill-tracker.html
  5. Morning all! Isn't it great to be back to work after a three-day weekend? What is Stab City? forgive my ignorance
  6. I hear about it 24/7 down here, and care a lot about what happens. +1000 on the disgusted part.
  7. Sorry for your losses, DM and slats and everyone else who's lost a loved one who served our country. My dad also fought in WWII in Europe. He passed away back in 1969. My mother received the folded flag also. It was incredibly moving, maybe more so since it was during that turbulent era, and made us all proud of our father's service. I don't have any stories because my dad didn't share them with us kids. But I do have some of his memorabilia from the war. Here's my dad around age 23. Thank you again and god bless all our active, retired, and departed service members.
  8. He only got sick last September -- that was fast. RIP
  9. Thank you to all our veterans and active service members! On this Memorial Day, we salute all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country! God bless!
  10. +1000 I can't stand the show or the women on it. Maybe I'm in the minority of females but it has never appealed to me and I think it does a disservice to women in general. I hate to think that young women model themselves on these people--they're just so silly. I won't be going to see the movie. I'd much rather watch a ball game or a good series like The Wire with my husband, instead of this drivel. But that's just me.
  11. I also didn't fill out the forms. They came by about 2 weeks ago, banging on the front door so hard I thought the glass would break. Was busy so didn't answer the door. Next day, I'm in the back yard doing yard work. Census worker came back -- no one answered the front door. So she came around back, peered over the fence and saw me. Had to answer the questions, only took 5 minutes like Max, but I was dirty, sweaty and stinky from pulling weeds. Oh well, too bad for her.
  12. 97 and no life-threatening diseases. Amazing. For a laugh, search "art linkletter kids say the darndest things" on you-tube. Absolutely hilarious! RIP Art.
  13. Welcome, greeneyed! Always nice to see another "lady" join the JN zoo!
  14. Where is the option to change number of posts on a page? I went to Edit Options, but don't see any section for that.
  15. Someone close to me needs regular transfusions because of a marrow problem. So thanks to all of you who donate blood. It really does make a difference in people's lives. You all rock!
  16. Thanks, guys, for the suggestions! I got my nephew Left 4 Dead I. He's just getting the Xbox machine, too, so I thought I'd give him the first version. He can always exchange it for L4D II (or something else) if he wants. I'm off to Atlanta area on Saturday to see my brother's family -- to celebrate my nephew's 8th grade graduation and my niece's graduation from med school. Congrats, Liz, on becoming an ER doctor! (I know she doesn't read the board, but I'm so proud of her.)
  17. Hi afo. Sorry to not reply sooner; things have been strange here. Hubbie was doing better over the winter but had a setback in late Feb/early March. So now we're back to where we were last year -- a little depressing to see some progress and then back track. Congrats on your son's choice of college. Sounds like a good fit from what you say. Bet you're glad the application and admission process is over. How's the job going? Still having layoffs and cutbacks? Hope all is well with you.

  18. I'm sorry to hear that. SJ and his family are in my thoughts.
  19. Thanks, boozer and jbro! Appreciate all the suggestions!
  20. I was just giving props to 27Dom for a great thread title -- though trading a child for beer does sound like something that would happen down south. But I'm sure there is enough looney news and stupid people doing stupid things to go around for everyone.
  21. Hi. I have to buy an Xbox game tonight to send to my nephew, who's 15. All my brother said is that he likes zombie killing games. Can anyone recommend a good zombie game for the Xbox? Thanks in advance!
  22. What a piece of garbage this guy is. http://www.wpri.com/dpps/news/strange_news/cops-say-man-tries-to-trade-baby-for-beer-jgr_3365212
