Plaxico Burress took part in team drills during this afternoon's practice, after injuring his lower back going up for a pass Tuesday.

Jets coach Rex Ryan said this morning that Burress would be re-evaluated after individual drills to determine if he would take part in the team portion. Burress was in with the first-team offense during 11-on-11s, catching one pass from QB Mark Sanchez. One pass from Sanchez in 7-on-7 team drills bounced off his fingertips.

Burress also sneaked in to receive one punt, clearly having a little fun in practice.

Other notes from today's practice:

Sanchez was 8-for-9 with a touchdown to TE Dustin Keller in 11-on-11s today, by an unofficial count. The first-team offense mixed in several Wildcat plays.

Kickers Nick Folk and Nick Novak each ended practice by nailing a 62-yard field goal, with a little help from the wind. Folk was 4-of-5 on field goals today, with a miss from 58 yards. Novak was 3-for-5, with misses from 38 and 58.

First-round pick Muhammad Wilkerson took part in individual drills, but he did not participate in the team portion of practice because of illness, per a team spokesman. Ropati Pitoitua worked with the first team in his place and recorded a sack of Sanchez.

NT Sione Pouha (knee), LB Bart Scott (left leg), OLB Calvin Pace (left groin), DL Marcus Dixon (left knee) and WR Derrick Mason (left knee) took part in team drills. QB Mark Brunell (calf) was again not dressed for practice. TE Jeff Cumberland (hamstring) and OL Trevor Canfield (knee) worked on the side with the trainers.

Wednesday practice notes

It was a good day for the offense, QB Mark Sanchez was an unofficial 7-of-8 during team drills today, hitting WR Santonio Holmes twice and Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason once each.

That kind of ability to take advantage of several different options can bode well for the Jets. It was a cooler day at the team’s Florham Park headquarters, and it was the last official day of training camp here. The Jets host a 6 p.m. practice at Hofstra tomorrow and then, when they return next Monday, will revert to a more normal schedule.

Meanwhile, Burress’ didn’t seem bothered by the back injury that Rex Ryan mentioned before practice. He leapt for a pass and quietly dashed in to catch a punt. No. 1 RB Shonn Greene was down for a long moment after getting clotheslined on a run, but he stayed in. So did RG Brandon Moore, who had to shift position to get up after one scrum at the line of scrimmage.

DL Muhammad Wilkerson missed the team portion of the afternoon practice with an undisclosed illness. He watched from the sideline however, and took part in individuals.

Calvin Pace (groin), Sione Pouha (left knee), Bart Scott (left leg) and Marcus Dixon (left knee) took part in team drills.

Rob Turner (leg), Mark Brunell (right calf), Trevor Canfield (left knee) and Jeff Cumberland (hamstring) were out and are expected not to play against the Giants on Saturday.

SPECIAL MOMENT: Nick Folk was 4-for-5 and Nick Novak was 3-for-5 in practice, but both made wind-aided 62-yard field goals to end practice, leaving their teammates with impressed looks on their faces.

There weren’t a lot of spectacular moments for those fighting for a roster spot, but S Byron Landor picked off a tipped ball intended for TE Matthew Mulligan.

IN AND OUT: The Jets picked up S Tracy WIlson (Northern Illinois), and claimed T Nevin McCaskill. Earlier in the day they released G Chris Stewart and LB Brandon Long.
