flgreen
http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2011/08/jets_cut_punter_chris_bryan_ki.html Jets cut punter Chris Bryan, kicker Nick Novak Published: Tuesday, August 30, 2011, 12:08 PM Updated: Tuesday, August 30, 2011, 12:33 PM By Jenny Vrentas/The Star-Ledger Follow Share Email Print conley.jpgTim Farrell/The Star-LedgerJets appear to be moving forward with TJ Conley as their punter. The Jets have cut punter Chris Bryan and kicker Nick Novak, according to two people with knowledge of the transactions. That means the Jets appear to have selected their specialists for this season, or at least Week 1: kicker Nick Folk and punter TJ Conley. Those people requested anonymity because the team has not yet announced the moves. Folk was the favorite to win the kicking competition after re-signing with the Jets during free agency. He made 4-of-5 field goals during the preseason, including a 50-yard attempt. His miss was wide right from 43 yards. Bryan appeared to have an early lead in the punting competition, but Conley gained steam and may have sealed the deal with a strong performance last night against the Giants. Conley had a net average of 43.7 yards, with a long of 58 yards, compared to Bryan's net average of 35.7 yards. The Daily News first reported that Novak had been cut. The Jets have now pared their roster down to 80, required by close of business today. The next round of cuts will take it down to 53.

faba
Folk was OK last year for the most of the year- slipped towards the end. Conley seems to have the stronger leg but who knows with these guys.
Bleedin Green
Not particularly surprising. Conley was far and away better this preseason (particularly last night) than Bryan, particularly when it comes to consistency. Plus it kind of seemed like this was Conley's job to lose this year. Westhoff talked him up a lot last preseason and said at the time Conley just needed to put some more time into working on his consistency before coming back this year, and this was Conley's third consecutive year in Jets camp, so clearly they liked what they saw in the past. Folk and Novak looked pretty much interchangable in the preseason, but after a better start from Novak early on, all of the camp reports more recently had Folk seeming to be more accurate, and after all he was the incumbent. JetNation
It looks like the Jets have decided on the identity of their special teams. According to Jenny Vrentas on NJ.com the Jets have waived Punter Chris Bryan and Kicker Nick Novak. This means that the place kicker will once again be Nick Folk and the punter will be TJ Conley. This is of course subject to any additional waiver claims that the Jets may make. hoping4ASuperBowl
They also waived Courtney Smith. Didn't he have a big penalty in last night games that overturned McElroy's TD run?
Barcs
This is sad news. I thought Novak was better than Folk, or at least could provide leverage if Folk starts folking up mid season.

Obrien2Toon
Happy about Conley, but was hoping for Novak just because of how much stronger he was on kickoffs.
