Will Maybin make this Jets team?

It really isn't. The guy has one move and he's not even average at it. Nothing he did last night would fly against starters and for the most part he was getting butterflied by backups last night. Absolutely no reason he belongs on this team. Yes, we need a pass rushing specialist. The problem is that he's not good at being a pass rushing specialist, and if a dude whose only talent is speed rushing hasn't capitalized on that by his 3rd year, there's no reason to believe that's going to be clicking any time soon. No chance he makes the team IMO.

westerman needs a written invitation to get in the backfield. he will make the team because the jets are that desperate for a guy to come off the edge

I did a little reading about Maybin on 2 Bills Drive, one of their fan websites. They were talking about the guys outside rush move and saying that is all he has. They also said that he got benched on specials and he shied away from contact. That being said, I am OK with him taking up a roster spot. If he doesn't show anything after 4 games and BLOWS on specials then cut him. If he is making a genuine effort on specials then I say keep him for the year and put him with Bricks nutritionist.

I agree fully with your analysis of Maybin, but I still think that he can make this team and help. We are not talking about using him as an every down player, but he is doing more than Jason Taylor did as a Jet. I think Rex will be sending DBs up that gap they get from his ridiculously wide rush

Oh come on.

I mean strictly as a pass rusher. I actually meant to write shown me more, but it would have meant the same discussion. Jason Taylor was 100 times the every down player and even on passing downs he could do numerous things, all but one of them better than Maybin. Strictly as a luxury 3rd and long guy I think Maybin may be better than Taylor.

Taylor was awful. Like Victor Hobson awful. He was one of the worst 3-4 OLB's in the league last season.

Well Maybin would be worse. I'm sure he was worse last year, but he does everything at top speed and his top speed seems pretty fast. I'd like to keep him around for 3rd and 8 or more and see if he has other uses. I think he could thrive in limited situations and with limited expectations.

“He did have some moments in that Philly game,” said head coach Rex Ryan in reference to the Jets’ Thursday preseason finale. “He had 1.5 sacks and he actually missed another one. Certainly he played well and he’s on our roster. He is one of those guys we had talked about. We had three spots open and I thought his play rushing the passer — that’s what landed him on the roster.”

The problem with maybin is that they would HAVE TO cut Westerman IMO

The Jets did what they needed to in reguards to Rob Turner and keeping him on the team. Before cuts they had McElroy holding a spot as well until he went IR.They cant keep to many roster spots for special circumstances or specialty guys. We mix it up and need versatile players to move around. Maybin doesnt fit that....he is Jonathan Vilma size....If we had Elroy, Turner and Maybin that would be a waste of 3 spots for one guy that will play maybe 10 snaps, in effect make Mike Westhoff go on a killing spree. Westerman it is..... :/

Why did they have to cut Westerman? They probably would have cut McIntyre first. I know they kept McElroy-since IR'd,Turner and Payne, but they also have a ton of ILBs. They certainly could have cut one of them as well, especially when you consider that they have used Westerman there in the past.
