The Jets need to pare their roster down to 53 men by 4 p.m. tomorrow. They have already started the process this morning. In last night's preseason finale against the Eagles, the Jets had 79 players on their roster, after adding CB Isaiah Trufant. We'll keep a tracker of where the roster is at today and tomorrow, compiled from people with direct knowledge of these players' roster status. The people requested anonymity because the team will not announce the roster moves tomorrow. OL Dennis Landolt, who was on the Jets practice squad during last season, has been cut. He will not be brought back to the practice squad. LB Joey LaRocque and T Nevin McCaskill will be released, their agent wrote on Twitter. Receivers Michael Campbell, an Edison native and undrafted free agent out of Temple, and Dan DePalma, a Verona native out of West Chester, have been cut. Undrafted free agents Eddie Jones, an outside linebacker out of Texas, and Davon Morgan, a safety from Virginia Tech, have been cut. So has DE Lorenzo Washington, who signed a reserve/future contract with the team in January. Blocking TE Keith Zinger, who signed with the team during camp, has been released. visajets
I thought Eddie Jones 99 looked decent. He will be picked up by another team if hes not put on the practice squad.

CrazyCarl40
I wonder if they're going to stuff Payne on the IR... ? From what I've read he'll only be out 6-8 weeks. McElroy had surgery on his thumb this morning. No timetable on his return yet.
visajets
McElroy will go to IR. Brunell should be cut as soon as we find a better replacement off another teams scrap heap.

If they like him, but don't really have a spot for him, they can hide him for the season on IR. That's what I was getting at. I knew he didn't really have a season ending injury. Bleedin Green
I wonder if they're going to stuff Payne on the IR... ? Did we ever get any real definitive info on his injury? I'm guessing if it's nothing too major they'll stash him on the PS with the idea being they could call him up later in the year if they so decide. Of the 3 fringe WRs that are left (Turner, Payne, McWhite), I think those are your three guys who will all be hitting the active roster and PS. I knew he didn't really have a season ending injury. If it's that long then I agree, he probably gets IRed, they're not going to waste a spot, active roster or even PS, for a fringe guy for that long. I figured if it were a short term thing they'd throw him onto the PS and decide where to keep him later once he's healthy and practicing, but not for half the season. #27TheDominator
I thought Eddie Jones 99 looked decent. He will be picked up by another team if hes not put on the practice squad. Eddie Jones looked okay, but they are probably keeping the 3 OLBs and there are 12 LBs still left. They aren't keeping him on the practice squad if they can keep whoever they cut out of Bellore, Berning or Satele. I think they like these guys better. I wonder if they're going to stuff Payne on the IR... ? Can they PUP him? 6-8 weeks sounds like Turner. If they can PUP them they would have the option of bringing them back if necessary OR IR'ing them later. I'm not sure if they can still do that at this point. McElroy will go to IR. Brunell should be cut as soon as we find a better replacement off another teams scrap heap. You have been harping on this for too long. They are not likely to "find a better replacement" because they need somebody who knows the offense. It's not like playing man to man CB. QB is the most complicated position. Last year they never carried more than five, and one of them was Brad Smith - who's not a WR. What makes anyone think they're going to six WR's now? Bellore and/or McIntyre stick with this team long before they keep a 6th WR.
SMC
Vrentas is incorrect in her article FWIW. The Jets need to cut 26 NOT 17. Potential PS players have to clear waivers before they can be signed to practice squad. So Jets need 26 total cuts.

Bleedin Green
On the roster? Really? Wow. I'll believe it when I see it. Definitely think he's a top PS candidate, but how many ILBs are they going to keep on the active roster? There's no doubt Mauga and Bellore are in over him. If anything, it's possible he could fall into the category that the Jets have had the past few years of having the fringe guys they really like who stay on the active roster at first, with the team knowing full well they'll cut the player once they pick somebody else up off of waivers, hoping it will help them get that player to the PS since everyone will have already made their moves by then. SMC
I think he meant practice squad. No, Manish was referring to the roster. My only thinking is that Payne was the ST ace and the plan is to keep Berning for STs until Payne is healthy.
