When we made the move from vBulletin to IPB some time ago, we opted to include a beta app called "Poster Profiling" in an effort to help us moderate users with not only a little more efficiency, but with a little more ease. Although we took a chance with an app still in the beta phase, we as a moderating/administrative group felt it was worth the risk. Point Blank - the original purpose of the app is to assist Moderators with problem posters. The app was supposed to identify problem posters, such as spammers, those flaming threads with mindless crap and most of all, banned users who attempt to come back by creating a new user name. The biggest feature, one we felt was important, was the app's alleged ability to detect a banned user's return, even if they brought a clean IP with them. One of our biggest challenges was banning those who ruined the posting experience, only to have them come back and cause more problems under a new name and clean IP. The Poster Profiling app was supposed to prevent, or at least curtail that. It didn't. In fact, the new system has a created a new problem, one that we've yet to find a workaround for. To put it in blunt terms: The new system has banned a number of legitimate members in good standing with JN, based off their posting language and styles. The system has incorrectly identified a number of posters as being previously banned and automatically banned them. We're talking user ban and IP ban. The whole kit and caboodle. It happened the other day and we're worried it will happen again. To make matters worse, we are having trouble "shutting it down" right now and any one of us, save the moderators/admins originally exempted when the app was executed, is at risk of being misidentified and banned outright. We sincerely apologize for this issue and are trying our best to rectify the situation. We will keep you advised of the situation as things progress. GOB and your moderating team. Can't help but notice that Max, PS Jets, AssDouche or whatever he goes by now throws the cop to the wolves to be the one that breaks this. Because enough people don't hate us already. To answer your questions, the users who were legitimately banned will stay banned. We're still trying to get this app uninstalled to prevent more problems.
