Santonio Holmes was questioning Mark Sanchez in a QB-WR meeting last Wednesday, per source. On Thursday, Holmes simply didn't show up. #nyj

While it might not endear them to the NFLPA and potential FAs, wonder if they have given thought to trying to void his contract for insubordination, or at least force a settlement. Skins eventually cut Haynesworth rather than have that fight.

Santonio Holmes' blow-up and benching occurred in the final minutes of the New York Jets' season-ending loss Sunday, but the tension had been building for days, team sources told ESPNNewYork.com.

The warning signs were there last week, team sources said Monday -- Holmes and Mark Sanchez exchanged words in a quarterback/receivers meeting last week, according to a source.

Sanchez, in an attempt to rally the Jets' slumping offense, addressed the unit in a meeting Wednesday and said he was planning to hold special after-hours sessions to fine-tune the game plan for the season finale against the Miami Dolphins.

Holmes showed up for the meeting, but stood in the back of the room and was "pouting the whole time," one source said. According to another source, Holmes said, "Why do I have to do this?" Sanchez held the same meeting the following day, but Holmes was a no-show, sources said.

"I had a feeling it was going to explode," one source said.

So much for the crap that idiots are spewing about Sanchez not having a work ethic.

Anyway, now this makes sense as to why Jeremy Kerley was targeted so often. I bet you Kerley really had Mark's back in the meetings.

Speaking of buying in, we should have kept Braylon over Santonio.

Releasing Santonio Holmes would be pretty pricey. From NFL.com: http://bit.ly/u5AKNW #insideslant

First "diva receiver" to pout when frustration mounted over floundering QB and offense. Emotions high now but its a long offseason

Another thing to keep in mind going into this 3PM PC is that the Jets are notorious for saying one thing and then doing another. The guy the Jets say the nicest things about is probably on his way OUT of town. If they start off saying how much Holmes is in their future plans read it as he's about to either be cut or traded

Everyone needs to stop with the panicking. This is about Santonio Holmes first and foremost. The team is not "imploding."

I agree with this.

Problem is, what the hell do they do with Holmes? Guys not going to change. This is the reason, with all his talent, he was kicked out of Pittsburgh.

He can't be cut. He can't be traded.

This is a real problem from a FO stand point. I wonder how Woody is taking it that he just spent 50 million on a player no body wants to play with?

Jets WR Holmes on hook for $7 million if released

By Jason La Canfora NFL Network

NFL Network Insider

Published: Jan. 2, 2012 at 12:45 p.m

New York Jets wideout Santonio Holmes has $7 million guaranteed in 2012 for skill, injury and cap reasons, according to a source with knowledge of his contract.

If the Jets do in fact release him, however, it is possible they could offset some of that money based on what Holmes makes on the open market. The Jets also are very short on skill players as is and likely are looking at major staff changes on offense, which could complicate any decision made on Holmes' future with the team.

Holmes declined to answer a question on if he planned to be back with the Jets in 2012 following the Sunday's season-ending loss to the Miami Dolphins, during which he was benched. Holmes also was escorted out of the team's facility by public relations staff Monday after failing to speak to the media during an open locker room period.

Holmes has another $7 million in future salary that becomes guaranteed on the second day of the 2012 league year (March 14), leaving the Jets with a very narrow window to explore trades. A potential trade also is a tough option to explore given the Jets' lack of leverage with Holmes coupled with the fact that the team gave up just a fifth-round pick to get him originally.

Holmes is due $19 million over the next two years and $28 million over the next three years. He made $8.25 million in the first year of his deal.

This would probably be the best way to go for the sake of the over all team.

If you were Mike T would you want to walk in your bosses' off ice and tell him you just cost him 23 million?

Ouch. I'm not so sure he's gone

If Holmes and Scott and Schottenheimer are released, how does Woody not fire Tannenbaum?

Correct about what?

Being upset with Sanchez and Schotty. They brought Holmes in to be a star, then designed a gameplan that doesn't involve him at all. Mostly because the QB can't really throw the ball, and the OC's cost benefit has left them with the idea that not trying and playing super conservative is better than attempting to pass outside.

He didn't handle it well, but Holmes should be upset.

He makes several million dollars a year and doesn't have to actually perform? Wow. He should quit his bitching, he has it made.

The signing of Holmes for that much was stupid to begin with. He isnt a star by any stretch. Decent player when he wants to be. sh*tty hands, lazy...and an obvious malcontent the first sign of adversity. He doesnt have the right to be upset about anything.

He never was a #1 receiver. Tanny deserves blame for this, but then again, most JetNation posters aren't in any position to criticize because they were claiming he's a #1 all of the off-season. So they are in no position to judge.
