Source: Brian Schottenheimer withdraws name from consideration for University of Florida offensive coordinator job

BY Manish Mehta

Brian Schottenheimer has withdrawn his name from consideration for the vacant University of Florida offensive coordinator job, a source confirms. Schottenheimer was a backup quarterback (behind Danny Wuerffel) in 1996 when Florida won the national championship.

Charlie Weis left as the Gator’s offensive coordinator to take over the Kansas head coach last month.

The Florida Times-Union reported that Schottenheimer took himself out of the mix because he prefers an NFL coaching job. The Jets' offensive coordinator is interviewing for the vacant Jaguars head coach position on Friday.

General manager Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan have said that the Jets will welcome Schottenheimer back as the offensive coordinator if he doesn't get a head coaching job elsewhwere. A source told the Daily News that Schottenheimer will be the primary play caller for Gang Green if he returns.

Well, the Jets probably secretly extended him for another 5 years

Right, that was the same day they give Holmes a big roster bonus and made the decision that Sanchez would be the only QB they'd be carrying on the roster next season. Rex and Tanny also started planning for their upcoming unemployment next year.
