Terrible News: Packers OC's Son Found Dead

The body of Packers OC Joe Philbin's son, Michael, was discovered and identified in Oshkosh, Wisconsin's Fox River after a police search Monday. It's believed Michael Philbin, 21, fell through the ice early Sunday. His body was found in roughly 15 feet of water, 30 yards from shore, at around 4PM ET Monday. Michael's friends in Oshkosh filed a missing person's report Sunday night after he was nowhere to be found throughout the day. Joe Philbin, Green Bay's fifth-year offensive coordinator, is currently away from the team. Source: Oshkosh Northwestern

That's horrific. RIP and condolences to the family.

As a practical matter, I don't see how you can ask the guy to come to work anytime soon. Real life could really impact the playoffs here. Perspective and whatnot.

People grieve differently. Possible the guy might welcome working to put this awfulness out of his mind, if only for a while. His pain is never going away.

Just a tidbit on Michael Philbin, whether its pertinent to this story or not is up to you. Michael Philbin was convicted in 2009 of sexaully assaulting two teenaged girls. He also was convicted of battery in the incident. Don't know the circumstances and can't judge his character based on the little information available about it. But it certainly gives me pause in mourning his loss. The family, however, still has my condolences regardless. Must be a horrible time in their lives right now.
